Prague 4 is the largest district in the city, stretching south from the Nusle Valley. It's residential, unhurried and well-connected to the centre by metro Line C (red line), with stations at Vysehrad, Prazskeho Povstani, Pankrac and Budejovicka putting you in the Old Town in under 15 minutes.

The headline attraction here is Vysehrad, the ancient hilltop fortress above the Vltava with a Romanesque rotunda, a Gothic cathedral, and a cemetery where Dvorak and Smetana are buried. The views from the ramparts over the river are some of the best in Prague and far less crowded than Prague Castle.

Hotels in Prague 4 are the cheapest central-ish option in the city. The neighbourhood isn't touristy and isn't pretending to be, but for travellers who treat the hotel as a place to sleep and want to spend the budget on food and drink in the centre, it's a smart pick.
