Prague 3 is Zizkov, the neighbourhood famously claimed to have the most pubs per square kilometre of any district in Prague. It's a bit more rough 'n ready than the tourist centre, with a proper local atmosphere, cheaper hotels, and the kind of dive bars and beer halls that groups and stag parties gravitate toward.

The landmark is the Zizkov Television Tower, a brutalist concrete needle visible from across the city, with crawling baby sculptures by artist David Cerny climbing up the outside. The National Monument on Vitkov Hill is also here, a massive functionalist memorial with panoramic views across the Old Town.

The Old Town is 15 minutes by tram, so you're not far from the sights, but the hotels are noticeably cheaper and the restaurants serve Czech food at Czech prices rather than tourist prices. The best base in Prague for groups, stag and hen parties, and budget-conscious travellers who want character over polish.
