Peaceful, pretty and just far enough from the party that you can get there with ease, but sleep it off in peace – Cala Vinas is Majorca's chilled-out answer to neighbouring Magaluf. This sheltered cove on the southwest coast offers a proper escape: white sand, turquoise waters, and palm-fringed cliffs creating its own little microclimate. It's the kind of place where you can genuinely relax, but with Magaluf's nightlife and Palma's culture just a short hop away when you fancy a change of pace.
✨ Highlights of your Holidays to Cala Vinas 2026 / 2027
🏖️ A sheltered palm-fringed cove with white sand, calm water and cliffs that keep the bay private and calm even on breezier days
🤿 Snorkelling visibility that's genuinely excellent for a resort so close to Magaluf, thanks to rocky outcrops either side of the main beach
🎉 Magaluf's strip is just a kilometre's walk or a five-minute taxi when you fancy a big night, so the party is just there waiting for you when you want it
🛥️ If you fancy something posher, just a bit further east from Magaluf you've got Portals Nous marina for yacht-gazing, designer shopping and long lunches at Puerto Portals
🏛️ Palma is half an hour's drive away for a proper city-day with the Gothic cathedral, Santa Catalina tapas and rooftop bars
🎉 Good to Know
☀️ Weather: Expect 28-30°C in summer with the surrounding cliffs creating a sheltered microclimate. One of the sunnier corners of Majorca with sea breezes keeping things comfortable.
💶 Prices: Slightly cheaper than the bigger resorts – expect around €3-4 for a beer, €12-15 for a meal. Magaluf's nearby if you want more choice.
🏃 Fun fact: Getting to the beach involves around 100 steps down from the main road – great for the calves, less ideal if you've got mobility issues. Worth the descent though!
🏨 Cala Vinyes Hotels
The Cala Vinyes hotel scene is compact, but decent. Browse all our Cala Vinyes hotels, or browse our top picks below. For hotels with your food and drinks sorted, check our all-inclusive Majorca options.
Occidental Cala Viñas. Four-star family-first all-inclusive with four swimming pools (two with kids' slides), family rooms and junior suites, and a buffet restaurant with show-cooking stations, pizza corner and a dedicated kids' food section. Pool-view and partial-sea-view rooms, a lively entertainment programme, and it's about a ten-minute walk to the cove. The strongest family pick in the resort.
Globales Cala Viñas (Adults Only). Grown-up three-star all-inclusive 450m from the beach with a spa (indoor pool, sauna, steam room), three bars, a sea-view restaurant and mini-golf on site. Adults-only buffet with themed evening nights, a la carte option, and a handful of suites with proper sea views. The pick for couples or pairs of mates who want all-in dining without the kids' club energy.
Globales Cala Vinyes Apartments (Adults Only). Self-catering adults-only apartment complex on the clifftop 600m from the beach, with an outdoor pool and simple but well-equipped one-bedroom units (private bathroom, kitchenette, air con, balcony). 🏖️ Best Beaches in and around Cala Vinyes
🏖️ Cala Vinyes beach. The resort's own cove, a curve of soft white sand about 150m long, backed by palm trees, cliffs and hotel-complex terraces. Calm swimming water protected by the headlands, sunbeds and parasols available, plus one or two beach bars for long lunches in season. The 100-step descent from the main road is your one logistical hurdle.
🎶 Magaluf beach (fifteen-minute walk / five-minute taxi). A proper 1.5km stretch of golden sand that's genuinely excellent whatever you make of the resort around it. Beach bars, water sports, big family vibe during the day, big party vibe in the evening.
🎯 Playa de Palma Nova (ten minutes by taxi). Three Blue Flag beaches strung along a wide bay with gentler water and a calmer, more family-oriented scene than Magaluf next door.
🛥️ Platja de Portals Nous (ten minutes east). The marina-side beach by Puerto Portals, smaller and less busy but with the iconic yacht-watching backdrop and a proper boujee lunch scene at the water's edge.
🌊 Cala Fornells (twenty minutes west). Pretty horseshoe cove just past Peguera, pine trees down to the sand, turquoise water and a quieter, more local feel than the Calvia stretch.
🛏️ Where to Stay
Families
The Occidental Cala Viñas is the family-first pick, with four pools, kids' slide pools, family rooms and an all-inclusive setup that makes feeding everyone straightforward. Katmandu Park in neighbouring Magaluf is a ten-minute taxi or fifteen-minute walk, and the beach is a short stroll through the resort's side paths. The 100-step beach descent is the one catch with pushchairs, so factor in pool days if you've got little ones.
Couples
The two Globales properties sit at opposite ends of the grown-up spectrum: Globales Cala Viñas if you want the adults-only all-inclusive with a spa and themed buffet nights, Globales Cala Vinyes Apartments if you want self-catering independence on the clifftop. Portals Nous is ten minutes east for a smart-marina dinner, Palma is thirty minutes for a proper night out in Santa Catalina.
Groups
Small groups of couples or mates tend to do well at Globales Cala Vinyes Apartments for the self-catering flexibility (breakfast spreads on the terrace, kitchen independence), with Magaluf's strip a kilometre's walk for the obligatory big-night session. For larger groups or anyone wanting all-in dining on site, Globales Cala Viñas handles it with the spa-and-three-bars setup.
🗣️ Local Lingo
Spanish and Catalan are both official in Majorca, with Catalan (specifically Mallorquí, the local dialect) the everyday language of locals and Spanish on every menu and sign. English is universal in the Calvia resorts given the British tourist base, but a quick attempt at either language gets you the friendlier service every time. A few to get you started:
Hola, Hello (works in both)
Bon dia, Good morning (Catalan, the local way)
Gràcies (Catalan) / Gracias (Spanish), Thank you
Una caña, por favor, A small draught beer, please (the bar classic)
Sobrassada, The local soft cured sausage made from Mallorcan black pig, spread on bread at every tapas bar and absolutely the thing to try

When's the best time to go?
July and August are peak season with sea at its warmest, every hotel pool and beach bar open and the entire Calvia coast in full flow. June and September are quieter alternatives for date-flexible travellers, still hitting 25 to 28°C with the sea perfectly swimmable. May and October bring cooler 20 to 22°C weather better suited to walking the coast paths and day-tripping to Palma. Most resort hotels close from November to March.
