Oh, and we’ve put handy links after every beach so that if you fancy yourself on any particular one, it’s just a click away!
Benirras, Ibiza - best beach for...Glamour
In the north of the White Isle, Benirras is just about as far away from the booze soaked crowds of San Antonio as you can get. At the end of a long road that twists and turns through the mountains, Benirras is a nigh on perfect beach overlooking a truly stunning bay. Thankfully, hotels are forbidden in the area, but there are villas nearby, and it doesn’t take too long to drive there from other tourist resorts in the north of Ibiza, such as Portinax, San Miguel, or even San Antonio.
Cirali, Antalya, Turkey - best beach for...History
Turkey is home to dozens of amazing beaches, and up there with the best of them is a stunning stretch of fine white sand called Cirali. Very near the ancient ruined city of Olympus – an attraction in its own right – Cirali is a protected breeding ground for loggerhead turtles, so you won’t find any jet skis, beach bars or banana boats here. What you will find is a perfect beach lapped by crystal clear water, and paths into the surrounding mountainside. Buses run frequently from Antalya to Olympos, or hire a car for a more off the beaten path experience.
Olu Deniz, Dalaman, Turkey - best beach for...Tourists
Just because a beach has been photographed more times than Lady Gaga, it shouldn’t be dismissed as another has-been place, ruined by tourists. On the contrary, the beach at Olu Deniz (Dalaman) has retained its breathtaking natural beauty despite the huge number of tourists who flock to its pristine sands and turquoise waters. Because it’s so popular, there are countless hotels nearby, and cheap flights to Olu Deniz are readily available all year.
Baska Voda, Croatia - best beach for...Adventure
A hidden gem on Croatia’s relatively unknown and completely unspoiled Dalmatian coast, Baska Voda is a blue flag beach a stone’s throw from Split airport, and within easy distance of the Krka National Park and the amazingly beautiful Hvar, with its uber cool bars and stunning architecture.
Praia da Rocha, Algarve - best beach for...Couples
When it comes to beaches, the Algarve really does know how it’s done. The beach at Praia da Rocha has soft white sand, aquamarine water, and countless nooks and crannies in which you can settle down for a snooze (or anything else!). Praia da Rocha beach has plenty of fans, so it can get pretty busy during high season, but this doesn’t take anything away from its sheer beauty.
Puerto Soller, Majorca - best beach for...Families
Majorca’s popularity is testament to its fantastic reputation as one of Europe’s, if not the world’s best holiday destinations. Puerto Soller is one of its most beautiful and popular resorts, perfect for family holidays in Majorca thanks to its child-friendly beach, superb restaurants and even a toy tram! It is about equidistant between Palma and Alcudia, with public transport running frequently between these popular resorts.
Sani, Halkidiki, Greece - best beach for...Culture
About as close as you can get to family holiday heaven, Sani, on the west coast of Halkidiki, is quite remarkable. Centred around a simply breathtaking blue flag beach, it is undoubtedly one of Greece’s most beautiful resorts, and retains the feel of an authentic Greek village.
Playa de Llevant, Costa Dorada, Spain - best beach for...Watersports
Near Salou, Playa de Llevant is a whopping 1200 metres long, its soft golden sands sloping gently into delicious turquoise water. Offering the best of both worlds, it often has an area cordoned off for water sports, with the rest of the beach left free for sunbathing, which you can do to your heart’s content.
Cancun, Mexico - best beach for...Partying
Fancy spending your afternoon lying in a hammock between two swaying palm trees on a perfect white beach? Or is a day of volleyball interspersed with trips on a jet ski more your cup of tea? Whatever your idea of the perfect beach holiday may be, you’re guaranteed to find what you’re looking for in Cancun. Once you’ve exhausted yourself on the beach, a refreshing drink and some delicious food will gear you up for Cancun’s fantastic nightlife.
