We were a group of 4 friends and family. Bought a 4 star holiday package from MERCAN TOURISM We arrived at 11:00 at night, all tired and hungry. The hotel front desk assigned our rooms, no elevators !! The couches in reception had spots and were dirty. We asked to have food - kitchen is closed they said, no food at 11:00 in a holiday resort???? After 15 minutes of hard negotiations, front desk said OK we can offer you soup. The dinning room was opened, no air conditioning - the smell was foul. Some greens and soup - no bread. Soup was lousy. We sat by the pool - then lights were turned off ...not yet 12:00 mid night ???? We wanted glass of wine, tea, water!!! no service !!! All in all, this hotel was sold to us by travel agent as a 4 star hotel - we paid for 4 star hotel. We got a 2 stars. WE PICKED OUR LUGGAGE AND LEFT

I visited this hotel on 6th July 2015 and we arrived at 1:30 am then to lead with my two daughters aged 2 yrs and 4yrs down 1 flight of stairs to the swimming pool then across the bridge to be lead too another 5 flights of stairs. I would never recommend this hotel as child friendly. The room once we arrived inside smelt so bad that whom had been in the room before us had left the window wide open. The day after we didn't realise how dirty the floor was until the bottom of our feet were black. When trying to communicate with the receptionist she couldn't understand English very well. I will never visit this hotel again. I would never rate this hotel as 4 stars I would say 2 stars maximum.

Arrived at the hotel at 23:15 on Thursday 25th June 2015, first thing i noticed was the very cold welcome we received. Reception girl stood talking to other members of staff even when we approached the desk and only when i spoke did she come to me and stop her conversation. She did not understand a word of english which i thought would have made a big difference to my arrival. She also did not smile at all during the time she got my keycards ready we were then pointed in the direction of the room. ROOM; After walking down around 30 steps and then up another 10 to our room i found the room to be a average room nothing special but clean and tidy so we thought! Found broken glass under the bed (alot of glass) Balcony door very shoddy, Tv only picked up turkish channels most hotels i have stayed in (and i've stayed in lots) have at least one film channel in english. And lastly the bedding! hard and very rough feeling blanket with 2 very hard pillows and one very hard mattress, Great. POOL; pool was lovely and the best thing about this hotel, Good amount of sun-beds and pool bar, pool area was clean and tidy and the staff worked hard throughout each day to keep it clean and litter free. only one negative was at 15:00 every day they played water polo which ended in one woman be being hit in the face by the ball as she was walking around the pool area and also myself and my partner being hit while sunbathing as the net was positioned near to our sun beds and the pool area was no where near big enough to play this sort of game. FOOD: Chicken every day! Bland, and same choices every night, We actually ate out for the entire holiday even though we were all inclusive (which annoyed me greatly) as we spent a bomb. However the upside to this was we found a lovely Bar/ cafe down the road and the service was delightful, the food was fantastic it had great FREE wifi, free pool table and was open until late serving food til 2:00am. The bar/cafe was called FELECITA and i would highly recommend going there. LOCATION: Good location overall, we caught the local bus into Gumbet (2 minutes away) and Bodrum (10 minutes away) they came every 5 minutes or so and only cost 3TL each no matter where we were going, Gumbet is a lovely place the locals were nice and once we were used to haggling we had a fab time in the shops getting a bargain. Bodrum the same but a little bigger, Lovely castle and harbour there. HELPFULNESS; 0% actually went to reception the day before departure to call holiday taxis to find out when they would be picking us up for the airport, manager didn't help at all would not let me call from the hotel phone and when i asked him to google their number for me he said i should do it i explained i had no access to internet as the hotel wifi was terrible, he just shrugged his shoulders so i said not to worry and went down to Felecita bar/cafe and luckily the manager found the number for us and actually called it from his mobile so i could find out our pick up time. OVERALL THOUGHTS; would love to go back to Gumbet area, Would NEVER stay at The Grand Newport hotel ever again, Cannot believe they are able to call themselves a 4* as i have stayed at many 3* that knock spots off this place.

Im so pleased we picked grand newport. At the time reviews were mixed and i wasnt surr if i had made the right decision. Thankfully we did! The hotel is situated a 10 minute walk out of gumbet (thankfully) and 10 minute walk to bitez (a far more classy alternative to gumbet) The views from this hotel are easily the best in the bodrum area. Being so high up the bay looks incredible The room was basic but this didnt spoil our trip at all The food was very good The pool large and in the sun all day Staff are fantastic and very friendly with awesome service The walk to the jetty down the steepest hill youve ever seen is worth it for the peace and quiet you receive Loved it!
