Largely agree with many of the comments on here: - staff very friendly and helpful - rooms small and basic, air con was more of a fan, walls paper-thin so doors opening/closing loudly can be heard...
Largely agree with many of the comments on here: - staff very friendly and helpful - rooms small and basic, air con was more of a fan, walls paper-thin so doors opening/closing loudly can be heard, cleaned every day though - food OK, though repetitive - entertainment was good (flamenco, magic, live singer) but space was too small to accommodate the number of people watching - convenient location, close to beach, lots of shops and Malgrat train station (5 min walk, for trips to Girona/Barcelona)

just back from 5 nights stay in Planamar hotel , rooms small but clean , towels changed every day , beds made and bathroom cleaned every day , staff friendly and helpful , food plentiful but basic , wouldn't recommend this hotel to family with small children as no safe place to play or kiddies pool but just across the road from beach. Overall good value for money and good location.
I went with an open mind thinking maybe people were fussy but this is not the case... Ok the hotel is fine basic clean but my God the food is only good if you plan on never eating I can't even...

Ok the hotel is fine basic clean but my God the food is only good if you plan on never eating I can't even describe my our horror when we walked in there absolutely vile!!!!! Malgre de Mar is beautiful absolutely loved it and we will go back just not to this hotel Luckily we only stayed 3 nights I would not have survived longer and luckily we had some money to eat out else where else we would have literally starved chips are the only edible thing and that's if you get a cooked batch as sometimes there went even cooked.

This was my third visit to Malgrat, but first in this particular hotel. I'd been given a twin room (I'd actually booked a single) on the first floor, just above the bar with a pool view. It was basic and perhaps a little on the small side, but perfectly adequate, and cleaned daily. It's a little dated, and could do with a lick of paint in places. The air conditioning worked well, although the fridge didn't work, and the TV - an ancient 14" CRT - only had two English channels, CNN and randomly a Horror movie channel. The safe hire is pretty expensive - €28 for the 5 nights I was there, plus a refundable €10 deposit. The staff were all friendly, particularly Pedro on reception. They all seemed to speak good English, the only language barrier issue I had was when it emerged that one of the barman from whom I'd been ordering drinks in Spanish was in fact Polish, and his Spanish was little better than mine. (There was absolutely no need to order in Spanish, and I didn't hear anybody else doing so.) The system of two cards for the bar seems a little complicated at first but it seems to work well enough, although it does mean that the queue at the bar is often longer than it would otherwise be with people waiting to return their glass. Entertainment was a bit hit and miss, the area where the evening shows take place is far too small, with only a handful of seats and many people stood at the back. The food was a little disappointing, with quite a limited choice. You could certainly always find something to eat, but it may be the same as you had yesterday. The quality wasn't always brilliant, such as what looked suspiciously like frozen vegetables rather than being freshly prepared. That said, there were themed nights (Catalan night and Italian night while I was there) with the restaurant decorated appropriately and a shot of something suitable as you arrived (Catalan dessert wine and Limoncello respectively). The house wine served in the restaurant was very drinkable too, which often isn't the case. There were often queues for the restaurant at busy times, although I rarely had to queue for long. The snacks service between meal times wasn't extensive either, and featured such dubious delights as really overcooked, rock hard burgers. I've certainly had better food in other 3* All Inclusive hotels, so I don't think it's just that my expectations are too high. Would I go back? Possibly. The location was very convenient and in general it was a nice break.
