This is a lovely decorated hotel, decorated to be like the titanic, staff friendly. We visited in October and the food was edible but often cold(there are microwaves in the dining room for you to use...
We loved staying at this hotel. The location is excellent! So close to the beach and always managed to get a spot close to the sea so I could watch the kids. Great shops, and restaurants within easy reach. The local McDonald's train ride was a great hit with the kids. I Food was great always plenty to choose from. Something for everybody. Both of my fussy children looked forward to meal times. The dining area did get very busy at meal times and at times there was a bit of a queue and often had to wait for the tables to be cleared and relaid. Overall room standard was OK. The mattresses could have been better and would have greatly improved the quality of sleep. I know we were not there to watch TV but for a 4 star expected LCD. The staff certainly tried their best. Always smiling. Animacion team were great! The kids loved the mini discos, even rushed meal times to get there on time. Flamingo dancers and magic show was also very good. Place was always get clean and tidy. The pool was a bit too busy for my liking so we often didn't get to use it until late in the evening. Can't complain too much as the beach was so close. We will definitely be coming back! I will also be recommending it to my family and friends.
The hotel is located in the ideallic coastal town of calella along the Costa Brava, about an hour away from the Catalonian capital, Barcelona. Situated near the local shops and less than 5 minutes...
Had a lovely 10 days in callela this month. We stayed at the H TOP Amaika. There where my family husband and daughter aged 13 and we went with our friends who had their 14 year old son. The entertainment was a big let down for us. During the day there wasn't much going on unless you made your way up to one of the other H TOP hotels. To be fair they are only a 5-10 minute walk up the road. Night time entertainment was a definite let down. Kids disco started anytime after 9pm and finished after about 45 minutes later. The animation crew where not the most entertaining to say the least at least we only had to suffer an hour of them , then there was nothing but some background Spanish music. Although this review may sound negative I did have a good holiday but I feel that I have to be honest for other travellers. Bar staff Some made an effort and some didn't even bother making eye contact with me. This was evident at most of the H TOP hotels we sampled during this stay with the H TOP Olympic being the worst by far. They would take the card from you and then just throw it back on to the bar once they had scanned it and yes we did inform reception of this complaint at the time. (This is the bar staff around the pool I need to make clear and not the staff inside ) Rules are plentiful. Men are not allowed to go to the bar without a T shirt on but women are allowed to go up in just their bikinis I and others where not sure on this one. You were given a card and it contained a photo of everyone in your party but depending on which hotel you were at ,had their own rules on how many drinks you could get at one time. Amaika hotel 1 card 2 drinks only at one time even though it showed their was 3 of you in your group. The other hotels 1 card 1 drink it was hard to keep up. All inclusive drinks were good and plentiful. All inclusive ice cream for kids didn't exist, it was an ice pop only. Snacks you got from the restaurant and not allowed around the pool area. You help yourself to tea and coffee so no need to cue at the bar. The pool area at the H TOP Amaika is definitely not the best. 30 sunbeds for all of the hotel and at least 5 of these were broken and unsafe. You had to start queuing up from around 8.30 am to get a bed and then most people left their towels on them and then went out for a walk. Rooms are lovely and adequate for the duration of your stay apart from the thin walls so be careful what you do as we heard every conversation our neighbours had each night around 3am. Housekeeping excellent and always had plenty of towels to hand and toiletries. Be careful with the hairdryer though as after 5 minutes it becomes extremely hot. This hotel is lovely in design and far better than the others we sampled but this one is not child friendly like the others. The Amaika doesn't have a games room or a shop like the rest and I feel that it is more for the older generations and not kids. The food was lovely and certainly always something available for everyone. The bay's were always filled and replaced quickly and we never had to cue for drinks in the restaurant for long. The tables were cleared promptly and apart from one miserable waiter the rest were pleasant enough. Reception staff were lovely and happy to help. The beach is only a 5 minute walk form the Amaika and there are plenty of shops and restaurants and bars to choose from for a very pleasant evening out of the hotel. Which we sampled quite a lot of for obvious reasons.
My wife and I stayed at the Amaika in May to attend a freinds wedding. The staff and hotel were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us. The cost of the stay was very reasonable for full all...
This is a lovely decorated hotel, decorated to be like the titanic, staff friendly. We visited in October and the food was edible but often cold(there are microwaves in the dining room for you to use if you wish) but as it was a cheap all inclusive deal,we just ate out a few of the evenings. The hotel was spotless and we found it relaxing and ideally situated for the beach. We are going back again,so defiantly recommend this hotel.
We have stayed at this hotels four times over the years and it's always great. It is designed to look like the inside of a ship and it's a lovely hotel. You are given an AI card if that's your chosen...
The hotel is located in the ideallic coastal town of calella along the Costa Brava, about an hour away from the Catalonian capital, Barcelona. Situated near the local shops and less than 5 minutes walk from the sea the hotel is strategically placed for those looking to enjoy a typical beach holiday. The hotel is well presented and has all the facilities you would expect of a 4* hotel including a decent sauna/jacuzzi (free for all inclusive). The rooms are spacious and comfortable, if not a bit dated. There is a small pool in the courtyard that is ideal for kids and a moderate array of sunbeds that saw more use from towels than people so you're better off going to the beach! The hotel has an average buffet menu disguised as a posh restaurant with a ridiculously sexist dress code. While there is a wide variety of food (mostly fish though) it ranged in quality with some dishes better tasting than others. However, it could have benefited from a clearer layout. Dishes were oft advertised as 'seafood dish' or 'boiled vegetables' and sometimes contained different things entirely. For example I ate something which claimed to be chicken but turned out to be fish! The snacks menu was uninspiring, only offering guests leftovers. The hotel gym was small with out of date equipment so not really recommended. A major downside was how limited the All inclusive drinks menu was. You could only get a restricted range of cheap soft drinks/alcohol. The hotel chain offers an all inclusive gold card for €13 per head per night to get branded stuff and better discounts on the chargeable drinks. However this is a scam by greedy hotel bosses to try and get even more money from you!! The hotel staff were generally nice and dealt with any problems but there was little sense of a personal connection between regular staff and long term guests! Overall, great location, average hotel and average food.
