We are a family of four with children aged 12 and 9. From the moment we were greeted at the reception by Leo to the moment we left we were very impressed. Leo was very helpful and we were helped by Jesus with our bags to our room. Well done to Jesus who carried three families worth of suitcases and was honest when he thought he damaged a bag and checked with the owner. It was in fact damaged by the airline. The integrity and the friendliness of the staff was great and the hotel should be very proud. The rooms - our request to have two rooms close together with our friends were met with adjoining rooms. The rooms were outstanding. Our room overlooked the adult pool on the ground level. It was spacious, spotlessly clean and was very quiet. I would definitely recommend this block of accommodation as it seems to be a central location in the complex. It was a short walk either way to the pools at the front of the hotel and to the activity pool and kids pool. The pools - plenty of pools to chose from. we chose to spend our time at the activity pool. The entertainers hold water games, aqua aerobics throughout the day. The kids pool with slides were close by which my 9 year old loved. We stayed mid August and the hotel was at full capacity I was worried that the hotel would be overcrowded as some reviews have stated but I did not sense that. Yes you need to wake up early to reserve sun beds but I have yet to go on a beach holiday where that wasn't the case. The restaurants - the waiters and waitresses were excellent in the buffet restaurant. Bringing drinks over without even needing to ask. I don't remember all the names of the people who helped us, but Ottman (apologies if I got your name wrong) and his colleagues were great and welcoming. The food was lovely with great freshly cooked meats, roasts and fresh breads, salads etc. deserts were also delicious and me having a sweet tooth loved the sweets as much as the kids. I enjoyed the food in the Chinese restaurant but was not keen on the Italian menu. Entertainment - this was probably the only thing that I was slightly disappointed with. After a great holiday to Turkey a couple of years ago with great entertainment this failed to compare. The majority of the entertainment was indoors which was hot and stuffy. We watched one show and some singers but left early. However we would enjoyed an evening walk to the marina followed by lovely cocktails by the pool bar or sports bar. My husband and son enjoyed the sports that were screened in the sports bar. The location- this was my first time to lanzarote and I thought it was beautiful. The location of the hotel was great. I liked being in the quiet part of playa blanca with the amazing beaches of papagayo a ten to fifteen minute walk one way and marina rubicon being a lovely walk the other. All in all we had an amazing holiday and felt the food, drinks, the facilities, the location, the cleanliness, the weather were all 'top notch'. Thank you to everyone at dream gran Castillo. We would love to return in the future.

Well, I'll try to keep this brief but be comprehensive at the same time. We had a fabulous holiday, first 10 days of August and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are so many staff that work so hard to keep the guests happy here it is almost shameful that a few rotten apples can be allowed spoil the barrel! We went premium, all inclusive and it was great. Issues arose predominantly with reception - very, very poor. We were supposed to have a 'premium' service with separate check in area but what we actually experienced was almost disdain-like. Elena, the girl at reception should not be in her job - first impressions are hard to overcome and she was pretty much rude, short and unhelpful from our first hello! When you arrive at a hotel on holidays, you are excited and want to be made feel welcome - the opposite was true in our case. She barked at us, gave us a basic level wrist bands and was pretty much dismissive entirely of our arrival - not 'welcome back, great to see you and hope you have a great holiday with us'- simple stuff. I then questioned her about our bands and she said, 'oh sorry, colleague mispacked the welcome pack but guess you know the place - good luck'! Then tried to pay and she said, sign here, machine down but couldn't even tell me how much I was signing for - just told me to come back at some point during my time. I asked about the massages we had agreed and she told me to just sort it out ourselves with the spa, wasn't her problem..literally! (My wife speaks Spanish as her first language) A terrible start to a well deserved and expensive break! Checkout was no better and worse if possible - we booked a taxi to take us to the airport and when asked if it had arrived, the red haired lady (can't rem her name) shrugged her shoulders and literally turned her back on us and walked away - incredible! Anyway, I saw at least three other couples almost getting into screaming matches with Elena during our stay - one guy said, 'listen lady, I'm just trying to check in here, can you please pay me some attention'! We had two sets of friends that we recommended the hotel to that were there during the same time, and they also had a terrible experience with reception. This is the front line and 'face' of the hotel and it should be top notch - it is def the weakest link in an otherwise powerful chain. Other main issue with reception is simply fixed - guests that have already checked in should have a separate area to deal with the hotel on the variety of questions, queries and bookings that arise during a stay - particularly given you are forced to go to reception for tickets for the Chinese, Italian, adult only restaurants and Bali beds. One can wait an age as reception deals with new check ins, check outs and existing customers - it needs to be restructured, it's broken and very hard to come back from the hassle you have to deal with in dealing with them! We spent hours of our break dealing with reception for a variety of things reception are exclusively responsible for (Alex, was the only exception here and for that we are most appreciative - he is a great guy). We also asked for a late check out but were told that others guests were arriving and this was not possible - our friends told us this was a lie as the day after we left, they sent in some workmen and painters to our room but no guests in sight...anyway, this was a minor point.. The rest of the hotel was fabulous and many staff went out if their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable...Carlos at the pool bar, Mohomad and Imbarek in the main restaurant were exceptional, Francisco, Hara and Estephania were amazing! These guys have a great work ethic and a smile that makes a holiday and they shouldn't be even mentioned in the same breath as their sub standard reception colleagues! Photographic staff were also amazing and Ali in particular was spectacular - friendly, patient, professional and a great photographer at that - gave us great memories to hold on to.. Other main issue with hotel is the sunbed situation - not enough beds and all were reserved by 9am, even though there is a no reservation policy!! I witnessed 2 arguments that almost became physical during our stay with people taking beds that no one had even sat in for hours at a time. This was mainly English visitors that would put the German stereotype to shame as they took 4 and 6 beds at a time with towels as the hotel staff left the guests fight it out amongst themselves! It took us 3 days of this crap before we realized that as premium level guests, we could use Bali beds that we could book daily or for our time there - reception failed to even let us know this was an option! Food was great, Jerome & Christian the chefs were brilliant, entertainment was spot on and we had many a great night (9 year old son included). Would we go back a third time? Great value for money, great facilities, lovely location and great staff in the main...guess the answer would be a yes but hotel management really needs to look at their first and last lines of guest interaction (I.e. Reception)- fix this critical front and back end of the operation and its top notch but ignore it at your peril...the place is fighting an uphill battle from the first hello forth and this isn't a fair representation of all the amazing, professionals that work throughout the hotel. Reception demeans the rest of the organization....

Don't normally write reviews, but due to the mixed reviews this hotel now gets, I thought I would try and give an honest opinion to help others, who may be travelling to this hotel in the future, or are thinking about booking it. We went as a family of 4 (two boys aged 11 and 13) during the school holidays in August. We have been to Lanzarote, several times in the past and stayed at 4 star resorts on the island. This hotel claims to be a 5 star. If you're expecting 5 star, you need to be realistic about your expectations. Have you really paid 5 star money? I paid a similar amount to what I paid for the 4 star resorts previously (in Lanzarote). Rooms - We had a superior family double (which I think is one of the most basic rooms the hotel offers) but it was still massive. One of the best rooms we have stayed in, and as a family of four, we certainly didn't feel cramped. Yes, the rooms are a little tired in places, but overall they are still of a very good standard. Maid service every day with towel change. Reception - it is busy and at times and you do have to wait, but there are staff there and I don't know what else the hotel is supposed to do. Sunbeds - This is a problem everywhere during school holidays and is not unique to this hotel. Unfortunately if you want a sunbed in a good position, you will have to get up like the rest of them, to reserve a bed with your towel ( the hotel does provide pool towels by the way). People were getting up from around 6:30am onwards, by around 8:30 to 9:00am most of the beds were taken. If you get up a little later however the pool attendants will try hard to find you a bed. Pools -The pools are good and the pool with slides is great for younger children(but not my lads ages). The pool areas are cleaned but not to a high standard. Food - The pool snack bar serves chips, hotdogs, toasties and burgers from 11am but this shuts for food (drinks still available) at 1pm when the main dining hall opens for lunch and then re-opens at 3. To be honest as far as pool bars go, it is not great. The food quality is poor and there is always a long queue, as there is only one person cooking food. My tip is put a t-shirt on and go to the dining hall. Main buffet dining hall - didn't have a problem at all with the food at this hotel. Breakfast everything you want (but don't expect English style bacon!). Lunch and Dinner were really good. Always at least 2/3 types of meat and 2 types of fish being cooked fresh for you as well as other meat/fish dishes which had already been cooked. Lots of variety and could always find something nice. Vegetarian meals also but i cannot comment on the quality of them. Overall the quality of the food I found really good and the best i have had (In Lanzarote that is). The main problem with mealtimes is that drinks are waiter service. If you hit the dining hall at peak times, you sometimes struggle to find a table set which means you have to try and attract an already busy waiter's attention. Due to this, we decided to have dinner earlier, around 7-7:30pm this meant you had your choice of tables and received excellent service from the waiters. You have to book the Italian 24 hours in advance. The steak at the Italian was good, but apart from that, I wouldn't rush back and I preferred the main dining hall. Didn't try the Chinese. Tip - long trousers rule is not enforced, shorts are fine. Drinks - Beer okay, but never woke up with a hangover which always makes me suspicious! spirits all branded and you don't even have to ask. Cocktails are already made up and are not great, but if they had to make them fresh the queues would be even longer at the bar. On that subject, there are queues at certain times, but nothing that annoyed me too much. Day Entertainment - Kids club looked excellent for the young ones, but for older children there is not a great deal to do. There is a football court but it is tiny. Night Entertainment - Sports bar is good and has nice seating area outside with sea view. Also has waiter service if you require. There is also a live act outside every night. Next to the sports bar is lower ground entertainment area and the main shows start at 9:45 pm. We never struggled to get a seat and despite no air con, didn't find it too hot at all. The shows range from outside acts (varying quality) to the entertainment team putting on shows. The team don't pretend they can sing, so they openly mime to backing tracks, but they certainly can dance to a very high standard. Found most shows very entertaining. Overall night entertainment is the best we have had and they really do make an effort. We also went to the Papagayo shopping centre a couple of nights as there are some bars which have live singing acts (some very good) from 9:30pm. In summary, If you are looking for the full 5 star treatment then i suggest you look elsewhere, but if you are looking for a decent hotel in Lanzarote (I would say this is 4 star plus), then I would strongly recommend this hotel.
Thanks for a great stay! If there is anything wrong with your room do pursue complaining we did get a better room and it was beneficial we ended up much better off and throughly ended up loving it...
Thanks for a great stay! If there is anything wrong with your room do pursue complaining we did get a better room and it was beneficial we ended up much better off and throughly ended up loving it! It's slightly further out from Playa Blanca so you do need a taxi or hire car!
