This resort is fantastic, with well serviced communal areas, great selection of food and a lively animation team with specific children events. The rooms are clean and pleasant enough but the real stars are the pools and restaurants. It is a pleasant 20 minute walk to Playa Blanca, which is the closest town and decent beach- as the one near the hotel is not great but it didn't matter as the pools are so good. Pools The place is very large and has two big pools (unheated and freezing though!) near the main bar, an adults only pool and jacuzzi (warm and lovely), a young childrens pool with slides (heated), an activity pool (didn't test temp as always packed with games going on) and then there are various mini pool areas. Plus there's an inside pool which is heated and located in the spa, which every guest gets one days access to. The predictable problem of sun loungers being saved with towels was the same at every pool. I think some of the pools are salt water too, so were gentle on the eyes. Children There is the kids club which runs from 10.30-1 and then 3-5 (I think) and is 2 minutes from the adults only bar and pool so is perfect for a bit of alone time if wanted/needed! The staff are great with the kids, but the only point I'd mention is that the entrance door was not always closed or manned as carefully as I'd expect but it didn't seem a big issue and it would be near impossible for any child who did leave to be able to escape the complex as it is gated. There was also a range of great nighttime activities and shows for the kids which are not my kind of thing but people seemed to enjoy them. There was also a bouncy castle, a small playground and a 3D cinema which you can use for free once but you have to be around 5+ to use due to height restrictions. Staff The staff are all fabulous and very friendly. And importantly you are not made to feel inferior to anyone who may be paying for drinks rather than the all inclusive guests. The drinks are free-flowing and you are made to feel welcome throughout your stay and at every bar and restaurant. One man called Otman was particularly lovely and made our family and daughter feel so special and welcomed- he sorted our table out every time and was so helpful. Food We went as a family of 7, of which 6 are vegetarian, so we are always worried about eating abroad but lots of things were labelled and there was a vast choice of food in the buffets and at least one option in the restaurants- Chinese and Italian, both of which you need to book in advance for the evenings (very easy to do). A quick tip of mine would be to avoid the Italian restaurant at lunchtimes (when you dont need to book) because it just serves a reduced service of the same food as the main buffet hall and is less maintained. Daytrips Some of us went to the National Park trip and it was brilliant. We booked the coach tour through the reception at 20euros an adult and was around 4.5 hours door-to-door service (available every day). We also all went to the market in Teguise (sunday only)- EXCEPT, foolishly, we went by taxi rather than the coach trip, it cost 60euros per taxi each way (we needed 2 taxis each way), whereas if we'd booked the coach it was around 6euros each return. Lesson learned with that one. Also we went to The Rubicon Marina market (wed and sats only) and Playa Blanca beach, both are around 15-20 mins away which you can get to along a lovely walk along the coast, but there is no shade- a taxi was 4euros each ways if you prefer. General tips Book your transfers from the airport directly with the hotel a few days before your due as its quite confusing at the airport to sort our buses unless you are proficient at those kind of things, I guess. Also, you don't need to bring your own towels as lots are available, but it is quite windy sometimes so make sure you bring enough clothes so that you wont need to rely on hanging them on your balcony if you wash them- as stuff blew away for many people. You get 500mb of wifi a week, which was more than enough. Generally very good coverage throughout most of the resort- except adult only pool (annoyingly). There is a supermarket and a few shops in the all white area just outside of the complex fences, its literally a minute away from the kids area Castleland. Overall this was a relaxing and well thought-through resort who makes you feel both part of a community but allowed to do as you want too- a perfect mix for families with great kids areas and adult areas too. Recommended.

Returned last night from a week at the Dream Gran Castillo, feeling totally rested. This is our fifth visit to Playa Blanca and this is the best hotel we have stayed at. I had read some bad reviews before going and am so glad to advise that this hotel is nothing but spectacular. We were booked in really quickly, with a welcome drink and very informative staff. The rooms are very spacious and very clean. The cleaners are lovely, always friendly and courteous. I highly recommend the Adult pool - there is a little building work going on but it does not interfere with the tranquility of the pool. There are plenty of available beds and umbrellas (just one warning note - when breezy, the umbrellas take off. One afternoon, an umbrella was lifted out of the base and over the fence, slamming into the hotel and coming down between the trees - it was incredible to watch but could have seriously hurt someone). The pool bar is fab and the staff are very friendly. My daughter is a fussy eater, after the first night in the main restaurant, where she ate only bread and crackers - we booked into the Italian every night (booked at Reception). The food is fabulous and the staff are very attentive. Thank you DGCR for a wonderful week - we will absolutely return :-)

We read reviews and looked at pictures so we knew exactly what we were expecting. We stayed for 1 week after staying in puerto del carmen for a week in a villa so this was the first time staying in playa blanca. We hired a car from autoreisen because we knew BEFORE hand that the hotel was a little out the way. We had a great time, so much pools, loads of bars, entertainment was good, food in the buffet restaurant was good, We tried Italian restaurant once which was good but the Chinese food was the best i ever had fact! Room was big with double bed for us and fold down double for the child. Room had flat screen tv compatable for external hard drive. Good size bathroom with separate toilet and shower. Staff we're very welcoming and polite and never a problem as other reviewers stated. If you want value for money and a relaxing holiday this is it!
