We visited the Castillo Spa when we were staying at the Sandos next door. The receptionist at the Castillo was so helpful when we asked if we could use the spa, and he personally took us through the hotel, past the facilities which looked wonderful, to the spa building. The spa treatments were absolutely great, reasonably priced we thought, and the staff there so helpful. The spa pool had hydrotherapy and jacuzzis, and was a very relaxing place to be. We could have use of the pool after our treaments. We are now really tempted to go and stay at the hotel as soon as possible!

Came back 18 Aug from 7 days at the hotel, travelled with a teenager and grown up son, so 3 of us in total. Hotel is within a large complex with several different levels so can be confusing to start with but once you get the hang of it it's fine. Make sure you take time to have a good look around as we missed things only to discover them too late. The complex is also quite far out at the end of the island (approx.1 hour from the airport). Reception staff were always friendly, but sometimes there weren't enough of them at the desk, and some didn't speak or understand English too well. Main pool area is good but a little on the small side, considering all the people, although there are 3 other pools a special children's one, adults only area and one used for games/sports, although they are quite far from the main area. However the whole area is not cleaned very well, so things that have been spilt just dry up on the floor, there is also a lot of leaves etc from the trees around the area, which end up in the pool. Sunbed situation is the same as in most places you have to be up at 7am to get a position you want, annoying as you are supposed to be on holiday but what can you do? The attendant was always very helpful to people trying to find them free sunbeds and moving them around. We were in a superior room which I asked for as the boys are nearly 6ft and 3 in one room can be a tight squeeze. The room was spacious and well proportioned, nice big bathroom with bath & shower. Not a lot of shelves/draws for clothes in the cupboard area, but plenty of hanging space. The air con is not great and needs to be more powerful, the ceiling fan helps but not much. The room was cleaned every day to quite a high standard, maid was lovely returning to turn down the beds and leave chocolates :) in the evening. Main restaurant was right by the main pool with a pool bar were snacks were also served. If you are a vegetarian there is lack of variety, as main options were soup, pasta & salad, although some of the salads also had meat & fish in them, and things were not always labelled. The Italian restaurant is lovely with a little more veggie choice and the Chinese is also very nice although the service there is not very good. The policy that men should wear long trousers is not enforced at all, we saw people in the Italian in shorts and flip flops, my opinion is if you are going to have a policy make it realistic and uphold it, or you might as well not bother!!! Sports bar & pool bar - During busy times staff were rushed off their feet and it was difficult to get served, they defiantly need to get more staff!!!. Drinks were ok, but not great as you they only used locally produced spirits, the so called Baileys was disgusting, only premium customers get branded labels, also some cocktails were not part of All Inclusive. Lovely golden sand beach is over the other side of the hill/mountain a good 20 minutes and quite a hike away, although it is worth it, the views from the top of the hillside are amazing. There is a pontoon along the side of the hotel good for snorkelling, and a rocky cove area. All in all not a bad hotel complex but agree with some of the other reviews that it is not quite 5* more a 4*. Not sure I would come back as would prefer somewhere that is actually on a golden sandy beach, and also there are so many other places to try.

Fantastic hotel. Great service from all the staff in a beautiful complex. We are family of 2+2 - this place is ideal. I emailed in advance to request a room close to the kids pool area and on arrival, late one night, we were firstly directed to the dining room to have dinner before returning to reception for the formalities. A golf car was then used to bring our luggage to the room which was beside the pool area. The room was spacious and clean as shown on hotel website. Basically the days followed each other with time by the pool, pool games with the fantastic animation team, 5d cinema on occasion, glorious spa trip, walk to adjacent beach (bring water etc with you - no facilities there but is worth the walk) or casual stroll to Playa Blanca along a pedestrianised walkway. A trip to the waterpark was also on the list but to be honest the days on complex were so good - it was hard to leave. The kids club is good although they had difficulty, as usual, with our Irish names, however once everyone settled the adults escaped to the Adults Only pool - a haven - theres is a bit of a microwave effect I think because its screened off on all sides the temperature seems higher in this area but that just makes it even better.. Food is great although kids pizza could have been added to the buffet and would surely have been snapped up.. Service in bar / restaurants great however on occasion just not enough staff on to manage the busy times. Animation team excellent - well trained and motivated - always approachable and do their job so well. The complex kinda splits into two areas - the kids pool side / big pool side - both have adjacent restaurants so you can basically stay in the area from morn - evening. Suggestion Box: Could do with some extra staff at peak times in restaurants. Could do with concierge or desk at reception for short queries eg. call a taxi without waiting behind families checking in. WiFi was a bit patchy in places... Oh and more towels needed in courtesy room when leaving late - we handed back beach towels to get key of courtesy room for showers prior to departure only to discover only two handtowels in courtesy room!! we were rescued by a passing cleaning lady who was not too impressed but.. This is the first place we've actually done a review for and would conisider returning to... thats speaks for itself...

Just returned from a week at this lovely hotel,Travelled with 2 children aged 8 and 12.The staff are incredibly friendly and always have a smile on their face, The hotel is fairly big but we never had to queue for drinks or for dinner,They seem to have relaxed the rule about long trousers at dinner as all the men had shorts on.There is a great choice of food, something for everyone and the Chinese and Italian restaurants were both very nice but book early.Didn't visit the children's club as the kids had so much fun around the pool.only downside is that you need to be up by 7 to reserve your sunbed by the pool.Would definatly go back again
