My friends and I spent 5 nights at Vistamar. The hotel its self is clean and staff are friendly. The apartment has pretty much everything you need with a small kitchenette. The baloney area was pathetic and could only really be used to dry out towels and bikinis. The hotel is by no means a 4*, it's very dated a lot of areas need some TLC. The pool area for instance is ridiculously small for the size of hotel. There was very little room to accommodate all the sun loungers, and when you have 20 kids in the smallest pool ever all with inflatables, you have to restrict your time in the pool to a quick dunk and out. We spent all our days at the beach which is only a 5 min walk away. The beach is lovely, very comfy loungers and lovely and clean. The hotel is based at the top of quite a steep hill. We were okay, but older guests or people who have difficulty walking would find this hard in the heat! Overall our stay was pleasant, but we all agreed the 4 star rating is a poor representation of the hotel.

late booking as we had to cancel our holiday in July due to illness and there was hardly anything available,6.00am flight [THOMSONS] and arrived at hotel at 11.00 to be told check in was 5.00pm,not a problem to me so we all got changed to go down pool but luggage store was rammed floor to ceiling! Receptionist said wait 30 minutes and we sort room, unfortunately room was below street level with steel gates on balcony door so back to reception and told them there was no way I was staying in a prison cell, they weren't going to budge until I showed them Thomson booking said sea view, bit of sparring between me,the reception guy and Miss high and mighty who was brandishing a stapler like a weapon and sorted, very nice 1 bed apartment on 6th floor with views of the sea and mountains.Everything you could need in apartment and like rest of hotel room wasn't just clean it was sparkling clean, very good air con but best to switch off when on balcony as individual units rather than central so a bit noisy[off switch is on thermostat].Stayed half board and food in restaurant had limited choice as most guests seemed to be s/c but very nice, always found something we liked and restaurant staff very pleasant.Pool area quite small and the usual problem with the sunbed grabbers and their extended families but always room in the grassed area to far end of pool, not sure why hotel doesn't put more sunbeds down there as there is plenty of room and trees giving shade if needed?Good little pool bar and reasonable prices and another bar upstairs with good wi/fi and pool tables etc, seemed to be entertainment on every night but went out every night so not sure how busy bar was etc.Hotel in a decent location at quiet end of resort but loads of bars within 10 minutes walk and 10 minutes In taxi to marina or bonanza square, few people moaning about hill to hotel but it's not a problem unless you are very unfit. Would recommend this hotel for the more independent traveller as for example no information sheets given at book in or anything provided in room and no activaties around pool [except for kids club] which is what we like as in "no I bloody haven't come on holiday and suddenly developed an interest in archery and shooting air rifles" but everybody very friendly and even Miss Stapler is ok if you work at her!!

We booked this hotel last minute through TUI and we got it for a very good price so we were certainly not expecting it to be luxurious and while most things were satisfactory or better a couple of basics were not. Firstly on our arrival a sarcastic receptionist told us that our room wasn't ready and couldn't say when it would be, in fact she was reluctant to communicate with guests at all, much preferring to ignore them in favour of stapling bits of paper together and snapping spitefully at us when we returned an hour later for an update - the room still wasn't ready, it was still a barefaced cheek of us to ask when it might be after a long day travelling. If we were illegal immigrants infected with Ebola I don't think we could have arrived to a more spiteful welcome. We eventually got to our room which was supposed to be for the 3 of us but only had enough towels and bedding for 2 people. Fortunately on returning to the dreaded reception we were able to speak to a cleaner who was wonderfully helpful and friendly and should definitely swop jobs with the receptionist (despite being underqualified by not having a stapler and swanky shoes), and I can confirm all the previous reviews that the cleaners here do an excellent job. The third "bed" turned out to be a delapidated, and completely knackered sofa bed covered in manky reddish brown and white stains on the mattress and the arms, I guess the previous occupant was an unfortunate elephant suffering several maladies including obesity, incontinence and heavy bleeding. Considering this is a 4 star hotel and we had paid for 3 people this was a joke and we wish that we had complained right at the start but were too English and meek to face the receptionist from hell. To be fair, the two real beds were very comfortable and the room was otherwise well furnished, but sleep quality was poor due to being able to hear the room above as well as numerous arrivals and deliveries to the hotel next door just beow our room. We stayed half board and the restaurant was very well run. Meals were very tasty and fresh with a variety of desserts to choose from (however if you are vegetarian be aware that you will only be able to have soup and salad as your main course because of no other hot vegetarian options without meat or fish). The hotel itself is in a great location opposite the beach (which makes up for the tiny pool at the hotel ) and the bus stop which has buses going regularly to places worth a visit such as Malaga and the Pueblo, including the sightseeing bus. Overall we would be happy to recommend on most counts, but would have to pay for a seperate bedroom for the third person making this not the good value that we came for.
