First Visit to El paso

5 July 2015

Stayed for 5 nights end of June 1 adult 2 children arrived about 3 pm, bad start as check in took nearly 2 hours I have never taken so long to check in on any holiday, people were complaining but...

Having booked this hotel for 14 nights in june/July 2015 we were open minded as to what we could expect after reading many negative reviews before travelling however thankfully most of the points I was apprehensive about didn't occur. We were given a second floor room in one of the pool view blocks which I was thankful for because the main block around the entertainment would have spoiled the holiday for me as would have being placed in the ground floor rooms as these did not look nice. Ours had a very roomy balcony but others had tiny balconies with hardly any space to hang wet clothes. We took a clothes line and pegs which proved invaluable as there are no self laundry facilities on site. I was very disappointed with the air con in the rooms as it was not fit for purpose and we were boiling all the time and I did several times ask for a fan and was told no. Food. The buffet restaurant was ok, we always found something to eat but the choice was limited. The pool snacks were again ok but repetitive. The El coyote restaurant was. Ice but not much choice on menu. Entertainment was good but very repetitive and finished at 10.30 My main issue was check in which was an absolute and utter disgrace and we stood in line for 2.5 hrs while at one stage only one member of staff checked guests in and the rest disappeared and left us all to wait. No issues trying to get loungers as there are plentiful however the parasols are in demand and you have to get out early to get shade.

this was our second time to this hotel and it was even better than the first..we booked for 10 nights this time as 7nights wasn't long enough to fit everything in. the food in the hotel had improved...

Stayed for 5 nights end of June 1 adult 2 children arrived about 3 pm, bad start as check in took nearly 2 hours I have never taken so long to check in on any holiday, people were complaining but nobody took any notice. The room was average size I double and I single but no more, they must have bigger rooms in complex, a safe was in the room and just about enough clothes space. We were about a minute from a lovely big pool and sun and shady areas as someone else said could do with cushions on chairs as it is classed as 4 star. The snack bar by pool served the usual burgers chips ect which was fine for a snack and drinks. Another bar had drinks and some free ice creams in cones which were very nice. The restaurant was big but annoying, as staff wanted to show you to a table of their choice rather than you choose your own, we just moved after they walked away. You have to choose your time for breakfast when you book in but this seems unnecessary as I went and changed them twice on the days children did not wake up as we had choose early and there is plenty of room for everyone, but maybe july /august may be different. Food was okay and plenty of it,usual food that it is served in all inclusive, chips for breakfast lol. Lots of fruit and salad which was very nice at lunch and evening meal Did not use the other restaurant as we were at the park in the evenings but heard it was very nice. Food I believe is the same in all the hotels have stayed on the Port Aventura hotel and that was the same food. Entertainment only saw children's entertainment and they most seem to enjoy it. I heard people say not really anything for adults. The park is 5 minutes from park there is a side gate to the right of the restaurant, or a train bus run up and down from reception also goes to another hotel so in my opinion quicker to walk. We went to the park in the day time but it was so busy we left and then went in the evenings after 7 pm and it gradually got quieter and queues acceptable, may be daytime a good time to watch shows. Park open till midnight now and fireworks at 11.45 which are excellent. I have never bought them but fast track tickets at discount can be purchased at reception not sure on price but believe they are expensive. We visited the water park discount price at hotel, lovely time I believe it was 19 euros for adults and 16 for children under 10years. If you don't want to eat in the hotel you get vouchers to use to obtain food in the park or water park these can be used at anytime of the day or evening. Overall a lovely time, this is the first time I have been in the summer I have stayed in Port Aventura hotel twice in October. In October it is Halloween which is lovely not many queues but park closes at 7 pm during the week and swimming pools in hotel are closed , obviously a lot cheaper but still not decided which I prefer. Hotel is convenient for beach there is a free bus goes 3 times in the mornings but an easy 20 minute walk, beach is lovely. Hotel clean and tidy. Yes I would return to this hotel again if I could get a good price,

keeps getting better

Having spent another excellent week at this hotel from 23/6/15 to 30/6/15 I can say that the hotel did not disappoint. We arrived at 8.30 in the evening and were checked in quickly and with tickets...

this was our second time to this hotel and it was even better than the first..we booked for 10 nights this time as 7nights wasn't long enough to fit everything in. the food in the hotel had improved greatly from the previous year, the a la carte restaurant was delicious and would highly recommend a visit if you like Mexican food. Portaventura are celebrating their 20year anniversary and the shows and firework displays were fantastic. we payed for express wristbands to queue jump the big rides although a little expensive they were worth every penny and saved standing in long queues some of which were over 60mins waiting time. if I was going to pick a fault with this hotel I would say the rooms could do with being a bit bigger, not much space for a family of four. no storage space and very little wardrobe space for hanging clothes, most of ours stayed in our cases and stored under the bed. the sleeping arrangements caused a problem to, I have a teenage daughter and a 6 year old son who had to share a bed as there was only 2double beds in the room, I think bunk beds or 2 singles would have saved this issue.. saying that it hasn't put me off returning and im sure we will be back in a year a two.

not impressed with this hotel at all , nightmare to get served at reception not enough staff to cover, rooms basic and beds awful, opened the patio doors to trees and shrubs, bathroom light kicked...

Having spent another excellent week at this hotel from 23/6/15 to 30/6/15 I can say that the hotel did not disappoint. We arrived at 8.30 in the evening and were checked in quickly and with tickets for lunch in the park each day. I had asked the tour operator to request rooms together for my family and we were given rooms together in the Guagolote block which overlooks the lovely pool. the hotel staff were very friendly and gave us excellent service through out our stay. The reception service is greatly improved since we stayed at the hotel 4 years ago, there were plenty of staff to assist guests and always with a smile. Some people have commented on reviews that they felt that the bar staff favoured some guests over others when it comes to serving drinks in the evening. Our experience is that there was a very orderly queue and that all guests were served quickly and efficiently, we could not fault the service. The standard and variety of food was very good in both the buffet and the el coyote restaurants. we did not eat at the pool bar so can not comment on this but the sangria and the ice cream were lovely. (Chicle ice cream was especially nice). The pool area was fairly busy but you could always find loungers and some shade which was needed as it was 28-30 degrees every day. (it would be nice if the hotel purchased some cushions for the sunloungers, we have stayed in hotels where they have piles of cushions which can be hosed down each day and they really do make a difference to the level of comfort) The pool was lovely and warm and it is manned by lifeguards to keep the little ones safe. we purchased fast pass wrist bands for 61 euros each and these gave us unlimited fast pass on the rides listed all week. in the past we only purchased the fast pass tickets for one day but this was really money well spent if you like the rides like silver river flume, furious baco, stampida, shambala etc. the time we saved by not queing we were able to relax by the pool. we have visited the park 4 times now, twice at the portaventura hotel on half board and twice at the el paso all inclusive. all 4 holidays have been fantastic and we have noticed that in the 10 years between our first and latest trip the park still looks as good as ever and the rides just get better. There is a sign up now to say that they are building Ferrari Land at the park, I'm sure it will be fantastic! We paid for 2 days in the Costa Caribe water park and had great fun trying the new slides, the old slides and bobbing along on a hoop on the lazy river. There are a couple of new pools one with hydrotherapy beds and massage jets and another with a pirate ship with water slides for little ones. It really is a great water park. there has been an improvement in the provision of places to eat with the lunch vouchers provided with all inclusive. you can now eat at 8 different places across the 2 parks and there is always a good choice of food with plenty of healthy options if you feel the need. We have always enjoyed our holidays at portaventura but we are very impressed with the continuous improvements which make each holiday better and better. A big thank you to all concerned.

Despite the number of sunny days that Salou basks in year round, the temperatures are not as intense as other destinations such as the Costa del Sol, with temperatures routinely ranging from between 20° Celsius and 26° Celsius from May until late August. The cooling breeze from the Mediterranean takes the edge off the worst of the humidity – perfect for working on that tan!
