Arrived at the hotel el paso 21 july 15. Had a great time at this hotel and we especially enjoyed the parks! Only a couple of things that i would say didnt make this hotel a 4 star, the rooms were...
This is the 5th time we have visited this hotel and the standard appears to have dropped. Some of the staff are helpful but the majority are not. The air conditioning in the room was not the best of and the daughters room did not work at all and they had to be moved the next day after suffering the heat all night. This then led to personal items going missing which has since been taken up with the tour rep as no satisfaction from the hotel. The food selection was also not the best of as you did not know what some of it was. I cannot fault the food for the daughter as she has to have gluten free meals and the staff were brilliant for this. Entertainment was not very good for the kids at night. The location is ideal for the theme park and the cirque du soleil was also there outside the park and this was well worth paying to see and would recommend it. Other recommended things to see are the House of illusion and doing the downhill mountain bike ride.
While the pool is a very comfortable size and open a lot longer than usually found, and the unlimited access to the theme park next door is a huge plus, I have to say this is as far as the positives...
Visited the El Paso 16-26 July 2015 with Jet2 - 2 adults & 2 kids 10 & 14. All inclusive with theme park included & 30% off water park in July Was a bit concerned having read some reviews but was pleasantly surprised! Quick 15m transfer journey from Reus airport Big busy family friendly hotel ideally located 5m away from the fantastic Portaventura theme park. Pros: 1. Unlimited access to the fab Portaventura park included - only 5m away (we bought the Express passes 60euros each for the 10 days for the top 10 rides - well worth it as it was busy school holls time) We went in evenings as it was cooler - its open until midnight and there are fireworks and a parade at 11.30 every night. Loads to do and plenty of shows to see. I recc the Polneysian fire show in the evening and the Templo del Fuego in Mexico (limited time in the evening). Bird show is good but go early to get shade. 2. Fantastic gluten free catering for me in the main restaurant and in the El Coyote. Just mentioned to the waitress and the chef or restr manager would come and ask what I would like - they were v knowledgeable & aware about cross contamination and would not let me near the buffet (Im coeliac - eating out is often difficult). Fantastic pastas and pizza and the best Ceasar salad (see photo) chocolate muffins etc There was even gluten free beer too - what a treat! One of the chefs is exceptional - Chef Roberto v knowledgeable on gluten free food - big thankyou to him in particular! You get 10 meals in the park too - those catering for gluten free diets were well marked on the park map & catered for me well. Massive plus for me & far better service than I get in UK! Big food choice for the rest of the family too - fresh and plentiful. Yes there were chips at breakfast but a massive choice of healthier (& unhealthy) options too! Very busy at times but kept clean and food was thoroughly cooked. We rang the changes - ate out in Salou one night, in the park a couple of times and in the El Coyote restr twice - does good steaks! 3. Effecient and helpful staff - staff working under v busy and hot conditions alot of the time but we always found them very polite (unlike some of the guests who seemed to have left their manners at home! Beware queue jumpers - a polite "Excuse me there's a queue" was needed a few times!). The staff really do appreciate a smile and a thankyou. I requested a pool view room with 2 doubles (not bunks) in advance - I got it. Reception staff were v helpful for local info re trains / directions to Neu Camp in Barcelona etc Train station is just accross the rd - hubby got a train to Barcelons (1hr) to visit footy ground - v easy and convenient to do. I asked for extra pillows - they arrived promptly. 4. Nice grounds and big pools with 4 lifeguards, although I did see kids get into difficulties in big pool so keep yr eyes open if you have little ones! 5. Very nice family friendly atmosphere, I didnt see any drunk people (despite the all inclusive alcohol) or antisocial behaviour (other than a bit of queue jumping!) 6. Clean, effecient and well run. Rooms cleaned daily. Free safe in room. I liked the fact that there were security patrols visible in the corridors in the evenings too as its a big spread out site. We felt safe there. 7. Free Wi Fi Cons: 1. Small rooms - especially if you have teenagers. Adequate but not much space for spreading out & relaxing in! Plenty of storage space. Not 5 * rooms, more 3* to me. Decent size bathroom. Tiny balcony - no use for sitting out on! No fridge or kettle so could be a long walk for a cuppa in the morning (I took my own travel kettle & tea bags) Beds quite firm but we found them comfy. Air con is ok but you must have door shut and bathroom fan off for it to work! 2. Check in was very slow. 3. Limited shade near pool, could use more brolleys (and loungers) 4. Limited daytime activities at hotel pool - aqua aerobics and one game of water polo - expected more organised stuff for kids & teenagers. 5. Water park was not included in July & Aug - which I knew on booking however we got 30% off buying tickets at reception. Was worth a visit for the day - but go early to get a place in the shade - gets very busy in late July! NOTE - T shirts not allowed in pool at water park you need proper UV lycra tops for the kids! Overall great holiday, very family friendly and good value, all Inl v easy for Mums and we all stayed healthy and had lots of full on fun, fun, fun at Portaventura.

We booked our family holiday last year, we had no idea when we arrived there would be hundreds of schoolchildren having their overnight "graduation" this was 11 year olds and last year high school. We found them rude, very noisy, one evening after having our evening meal we were sat outside and were spat on from school children 3 floors up! There was no escape from them, as one group left others replaced them apart fromSaturdays & Sunday's.

Arrived on Bus Plana from Barcelona Airport to this Resort Hotel.Bus trip took 1 hour 40 mins to Caribe Hotel(bus does not go up to El Paso Hotel which is a let down,Price 27 euros per peron over 7)then its a 5 min walk up to the El Paso hotel,if you see the small resort bus\train there at Caribe bus stop just get to up to El Paso. Hotel is big and very well laid out. We got a superior room for 2 adults and 2 kids 8 and 12.These are in the actual main reception building which is great. Like in Disneyland you get to choose your breakfast time for every day of your stay. We recieved 88 euros worth of fast pass tickets free just for having a superior room plus the eight day park tickets. We all got a luxury red towel for use during our stay, apart from the standard white ones.I saw many using these red ones in the pool instead of renting out the grey towels from reception. We always take our own beach ones from home. Pool is excellent, massive and usualy clean but the amount of people does show during the afternoon as some areas get very dirty. Many sunbeds but still does take good luck to find some shade after 12.Sunbeds are all plastic and a bit of a let down as we are used to the soft material ones, these are hard and can get uncomfortable.Pool is massive and very nice.4 lifeguards on duty all the time wich is great. No floatables allowed so dont buy any if going to be used by adults as they are only allowed in the kids pool.Too many people playing with balls in pool so expect a ball on your head at some point. Ice cream is Walls and is free in the hotel and in the pool bar you can get served cones with your choice of flavour.Crisps and sweets must be paid for.Bottled water has to be paid for. The park is just 5 mins away walking or a free bus/train drive away from outside the hotel. We had park tickets included during all our stay. Hotel food and drink was all inclusive, and have to say it was to a very high standard.Coke and Damm beer were the drink brands.Danone and Walls for ice cream were also free except for some specific Magnum,Corneto soft etc selections. Nice to see free slush drinks for kids.Self service soft drinks for all ,plenty of ice.All coffee and tea is free. The hotel restaurant is called Merida there breakfast and all meals are served.Be warned unsless it changes the restaurant is extremely hot as management have the air con set at 24 degrees which with 36 degrees and high humidity outside it does make it very difficult to eat properly,a shame when food is so good.It is unbearable inside that dining room and the waiters have there own wet tshirt comp every day,the one that sweats the most wins!Feel sorry for them.Today friday we complained at reception about the heat in the dining room, hope they take notice,we still have three days left here.Shame is one day there could be a serious incident with heat stroke there. There are two pool bars.One.Bahia the other Maya. The Maya serves hotdogs, natchos, burgers, chips etc during all the day for free. There is no specific snack time like in other all inclusive.....here you eat all the time,if you want. Then we have the bar next to the dining room Merida. They serve only drinks and tea and have coffee machines. There is a free hotel to salou beach bus every day at 10 and 11am then back at 4pm to hotel. This is great if you want to go to the beach or visit salou for shopping then you can always get a taxi back for around 8 euros for 4. To finish i would like to say we have enjoyed our 5 days up to now(we are still here until Monday)and we are sure to return to this hotel. It is a shame the air con problems during dining times due to management decision.Customers should be their first priority, especially during this summer which is the worst ever.
