stayed here July 2015, the location of this hotel is second to none, absolutely brilliant, staff very friendly and help you when you ask any questions, rooms cleaned daily and fresh towels daily, cannot fault on this, food is good not brilliant just good, breakfast is acceptable with plenty to choose from, which is the same every day, as is the evening meals, although good enough there is only so much you can look at never mind eat on a daily basis, out of the long list on the menu only normally 3 were changed, mostly fish/chicken/meat done a different way but very similar!!!I would stay here again but I would not stay in rooms on the 4th floor from 412-417,they are directly below the restaurant, we were in 417 and every morning at 8am we had the loud scraping of chairs on the tile floor which did spoil it a bit for us as the last thing you want on holiday is this happening, nothing against the pianist that plays every night but it was rather boring for us, which is why we did not stay in the bar, you are not allowed to take a drink to the lounge area unless it is bought from the bar, which in my opinion is wrong, as you cannot get Wi-Fi unless you are in the lounge area(none in the rooms) what is wrong with taking a drink down to check e-mails/social media...nothing, we were told we were not allowed to sit with a drink checking our phones unless it was from the bar!! even the bar steward said it was wrong and apologised but still not allowed?? this would generate more sales from the bar!!

Went to Albufeira last year self catering and decided this year to try the Hotel Sol E Mar as it's right on the beach and we had had drinks at the bar downstairs. We were not disappointed. On arrival our room wasn't ready but lovely lady on reception told us if we wanted to change into our shorts etc( we left cold weather back in Glasgow!!)and to go to toilets in the bar. She would keep our cases behind reception. First impressions walking up steps to bar area were very good.Beautiful view over the beach from bar balcony.... sat out there many an evening enjoying the cocktail of the day and people watching! Lovely bar man and some nights when we came home early after having a big meal out we just wanted to relax in the bar and listen to the music by guy on keyboard. Our room was ready when we went back at time we were told. We were on third floor, room 316 and were not disappointed. Nice clean big room with perfect sea view. Plenty storage space with fridge in the wardrobe area and a safe also. You get key from reception for 15 euros a week. Towels were changed every singe day and we had sheets changed once in our 9 days which was fine by me. Let's be honest do we change our sheets more than once a week at home?? We were only B&B .Breakfast was very good. There were cereals, fresh fruit , yoghurts, cheese & cold ham , bacon, sausages , choice of scrambled, boiled and fried eggs. You make your own toast and there is a coffee/ tea machine and fruit juice machine which you helped yourself to. No complaints as some days we just wanted cereal others we had the full works. All reception staff were helpful and friendly. The Jet2 rep was called away on the day he was due to be there but the manager (I think) was so helpful and contacted him for us and we were able to sort out booking our seats on flight home so we were seated together. I will certainly be recommending this hotel but have just discovered Jet2 are only doing half board next year and am disappointed they aren't doing B&B. It's our preference as we like eating out and trying different restaurants. Hopefully be back next year if we can find who does B&B at this hotel.. fingers crossed!

We booked this hotel because it was the only 4/5 star hotel on the beach and right in the centre of the old town. The previous reviews didn't mention the bad points and I am writing this so people are aware of what they are getting. The location is fantastic. The hotel has no outdoor pool and is very dated. Circa 1970. The rooms as basic, clean and all have an ocean view. Although it is right on the beach...the hotel doesn't not have it's own strip of beach and no beds. These belong to another company and you have to pay €15 per day. The beach bars and restaurants are very good, food is fresh and seats are comfy. There are no showers or facilities for washing your feet at the hotel steps. Our main problem was the breakfast it is shocking. No fresh orange juice...Although the hotels beach bar serves fresh juice...for a price. No fresh fruit.... We went one day...and didn't bother the rest of the week. If you still want to book request a low floor, floors 5 and under...the high floor...6 is not served by the lift and has a very alkward and hot staircase. These 6 rooms on this floor....are really really dated family rooms. The tv works but it is tiny portable and the beds are very uncomfortable. Luckily for us we got moves on our 2nd day due to a sewers issue to a forth floor room. It was much better, spacious, clean and a 32 " flat screen. But again not anywhere near 4 star status. In fact we saw several 3 star boutique hotels in the old town which were far more modern and better facilities. All in all it was very very expensive for the facilities and the quality of the rooms. You are paying for the location but the 3 stars in the area are better quality and price within a 5 minute walk.

We stayed here for nine nights B&B at the end of June 2015, staff at hotel are very nice and helpful always had a smile when talking to you. The hotel is in a good position on the beach and in the middle of the old town. They have a lift that takes you down to the beach if you cannot manage the stairs. The breakfast had a very good choice of foods both hot and cold. Our room was large with a sea view balcony(all rooms have) bath and shower both worked well. The bar was also very nice plus the free wifi was excellent in the public area. All in all we had an excellent stay in the hotel. To top it all we received a hand written postcard from Ana at the hotel on our arrival home thanking us for staying (Top marks for that). We will be returning to this hotel on our next trip to Portugal.
