Hotel is old probably 70/80s and is tired, it's within the concrete jungle but pool , common areas and rooms are clean and functional. The hotel company are scamming holiday makers as per the previous post by not providing an itenerary for the board basis. The food is appalling with no choice and whilst you will survive its not fit for purpose. By not providing an itinerary the hotel can chip and change the all inclusive option or hb at anytime. Only beer wine and soft drinks (except 1 understaffed bar 8-11pm) ice cream withdrew on day two as change to it itinerary. Restaurants closed for private functions- reception very helpful but no one to deal with issues ''Mr David" is the manager but works on avoiding you knowing you'll soon go home. This hotel will only ever sell cheap to new guests as its bending the rules; much better out there at the same price. Staff can be aggressive when challenged 'on the rules' - guests beware!

Stayed for four nights, currently posting this before we have arrived home. On arrival the hotel looked a lot better than the reviews gave it credit, first problem arrived within the first five minutes on checking in. We were informed by reception that we had booked bed and breakfast, this was incorrect as we had booked a studio with half board, too tired to argue (as we arrived at the hotel at roughly 1am) we went straight to the room. Room itself was actually ok, as was the cleanliness, our towels were changed on the third day and the room was cleaned everyday. The pool was cleaned morning and night and the general cleanliness of the entire building was good don't let other reviews give you the wrong impression. The next day we again went to reception to query our board status, this day we were informed that we were half board meaning breakfast, lunch (midday meal), snack bar and drinks were included. Fantastic we thought and went about our first day enjoying the sun. On heading to the snack bar at 3pm and being let into the food counter area and allowed to plate up our food with sauces by the staff we were abruptly stopped by an incredibly rude gentleman who we later learned was a supervisor/in charge of food and pool bar service who told us that we had to pay. I explained that we were told by reception that it was included and he went on to accuse us of lying and that "you know you aren't allowed" in a very aggressive and unnecessary manner. There was no point in arguing and so we paid €13 for two burgers and chips (may I point out that at the snack bar every single day this is all you will be offered) we paid, we ate, we left and headed to the pool bar. After having a number of drinks as included as mentioned by reception and by our paperwork as attached photo shows (paperwork sent to us from our travel agent and therefore if it is incorrect this is not fault of our own but of the agent and hotel for not communicating affectively, had we known the drinks were not included as stated on our paperwork we would NOT have chosen half board as we only ate breakfast each day after the first day and ate out for all other meals and snacks. We only chose half board for the drink side which seemed a great offer). The same man came over to the staff working the pool bar and told him we were not allowed any free drinks as we weren't all inclusive. From that point onwards we didn't bother staying in the hotel for meals and most drink. We again went to reception and asked the status of our stay and this time were told breakfast and lunch (midday meal) so three different statements from three different staff members even though our paperwork clearly states as it does. We were not the only ones to have problems with this same guy as on speaking to a few people most had complaints about him. The last night we were there we were trying to catch the last of the sunshine before an early flight and saw a woman with a broken leg in a mobility scooter struggling to find a way to get food to her granddaughter (girl was about 3/4) I went over to assist as the woman couldn't get to the counter due to steps and she had been told that she needed to get food for her granddaughter from the pool bar, I went to the bar to ask about this and was greeting again by this guy with an attitude. I explained the child had nothing to do with me I was just trying to help the woman out as she couldn't walk nor get to the counter to ask herself. Finally he came out to speak to the woman who was clearly upset as all she wanted to do was get some food for the little girl and again he was incredibly rude to her, eventually he allowed me to get the girl some food as she was only little. To be fair he was very nice to the child. Outside of the hotel the area is fantastic and the hotel is located very close to the beach and bars/restaurants. We took a boat tour in Lagos to the caves which were definitely worth the visit. A little Chinese restaurant called ulike we happened to stumble across on the second night was quite possibly the best Chinese I've ever eaten and was deadly quiet somehow, definitely give it a look if you like Chinese food! Food at the hotel was repetitive but for the price you can't really complain too much and the staff work really hard to try to maintain a good service. Only one restaurant open at a time however when they have two? Coffee machines out of order or slow as hell again not the staffs fault but the hotel needs to invest in a better system to prevent the mass queues. Pool area was great, really relaxing and clean. Everyone seemed to be happy in or around the pool. Overall an ok stay, only downside was the attitude of the one guy, the rest of the staff and even reception we found very helpful and polite. Things like wifi/tv remotes in this day and age should never have to be paid for especially €3 for an hours worth of wifi that can only be used at reception no where else. We knew this before we booked however so didn't complain. We used the best4u shuttle service to and from the airport they were on time and very friendly.

Going all inclusive was a decision we regret not because of the food at the hotel but because the bars and restaurants in Praia da Rocha were cheap and the food was lovely. The food at the hotel wasn't to everyone's liking and there wasn't much variety, with their only being two choices of main meals at dinner and lunch. the food is edible despite what others say. a holiday is what you make of it at the end of the day. the staff were friendly and cheerful, not so much on reception but we didn't have much to do with them so for us, no bother. you do have to pay for the sunbeds but at a euro each sunbed, you can't complain; saves others stealing all of them and not using them. our apartment was much bigger than we accepted with their being a kitchen/dining/living room in a separate room to the bedroom. the beach and main strip are a short walk up bank away, but far enough away that the hotel was quiet. you do have to be careful on the strip as we were asked every time we walked along the strip to buy drugs, but they don't pressurize you so just ignore them. but by the end of the week it got irritating, so just a heads up. excursions to the water-parks and sand city were easy to get to as the transfer picked you up on the road outside of the hotel. all in all we had a great holiday, perfect place to go for couples and families. we would go again but self-catered next time.
The Algarve has an average of 17 days of rainfall a year meaning you’re unlikely to have your Praia da Rocha holidays spoilt by showers. The sun shines all summer long and during the winter months it’s warm and dry.
The fantastic weather allows you to enjoy your days lounging by the pool, relaxing on the beach or polishing up your golf technique no matter what time of year you choose to come on holidays to Praia da Rocha. It's little wonder so many people choose to buy a holiday home here!
