Malta Hotels

Malta hotels

Where do we even begin with Malta hotels? You’ll find everything from sweeping beach resorts to great no-frills bases here. Nestled in the centre of the Med, Malta is the perfect mix of traditional beauty and modern appeal. The short flight time, great weather and incredible coastline make it a beach break no-brainer.

Visit Valetta to discover a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was picked as the European Capital of Culture 2018. Make your way to Melliha for the island’s largest sandy beach. Stay in St. Paul’s Bay to the north for pretty beaches and boat trips to the Gozo and Comino islets. Flop ‘n’ drop or make it your mission to explore every Maltese corner – the choice is up to you.

Beaches

If you want sun, sea and sand, then the aptly named Golden Bay is a great choice of beach. Found to the northeast of the mainland, this golden crescent is a fabulous all-rounder. Beachside dining, sun loungers and gently-shelving water is the name of the game here. There’s even a diving and watersports centre nearby if you’re feeling adventurous. If you like to beach-hop, you can’t go wrong with the popular, beautiful Melliha Bay and the Blue Flag Ghajn Tuffeha beaches either.

Culture

Did we mention that Valetta was the European Capital of Culture in 2018? It’s also one of the only whole cities to be classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – its streets are crammed with historic, artistic and architectural wonders. Local culture is also closely-tied to Catholicism, with feast day celebrations marked with impressive parades and fireworks. Check out the dates for the Medieval Mdina or Malta Fashion week if you want your visit to include an interesting event. Otherwise, take the time to visit local museums or historic sites if you pass them – you won’t regret following a whim!

Food & Drink

Foodies, get ready to be wowed by Malta’s blend of French, Spanish and Italian influences when it comes to cooking. With light flavours that are perfect for the hot weather, you’ll be spoilt for choice when browsing a Maltese menu. Love trying new things? Go for fenkata, a traditional rabbit stew. Locally-sourced seafood will also be on the table at most restaurants – keep an eye out for lampuki fish pies for a true taste of the Mediterranean. Veggies will be in heaven, too; order bigilla (broad beans in garlic) or widow’s soup (with goat’s cheese). Pair these dishes with a crisp white or fruity red from a Maltese winery, which are starting to get noticed by wine connoisseurs around the world.

Nightlife

Malta is many different things to many different people. Party animals know that when the sun sets over the sea, these islands come to life. The main tourist resorts and beaches are often close to beach bars and clubs where you can dance the night away. However, the real star of the show when it comes to evening entertainment is Paceville in St. Julian’s. This district is home to world-famous clubs such as Havana, where you’ll find an incredible six bars and great music. If you really want to go all out for a special occasion or opportunity to see and be seen, head to Twenty Two. This upscale cocktail bar serves up breathtaking views over the marina.
