We've just returned from a fabulous holiday at the Rinela. We've stayed in several all inclusive hotels across the med over the last few years as we find it works really well with children (ours are now aged 14 & 12) and I would have to say this is one of the best hotels we've stayed in. It had a lovely relaxed laid back feel with some extra touches. The room was immaculately clean and whilst a bit small for the 4 of us (no family rooms available) the bathroom was lovely and spacious with a great shower, complimentary fruit bowl, toiletries and hair dryer. It was also great to have a mini bar in the room, refilled every couple of days with soft drinks, water and a couple of beers. The air con worked fine and the room was cleaned every day. We had a bungalow room with the prettiest sunny patio area covered with flowers. We hired a safe (25€ a week) and pool towels (€20 deposit per towel and could be changed every day - lovely to have). The grounds are beautiful and extremely well maintained. There were so many breathtaking views around the complex - the view from reception out across the water was amazing and we saw stunning sun sets (& one sunrise too). The sun beds are an issue, but it's the same wherever you go in August. Taking the view 'if you can't beat 'em join 'em' I got up at 7.30am each morning and managed to get beds by the smaller pool, which suited us better than the main pool as the kids liked the flumes and close proximity to the beach. The only thing I would say is that there were definitely areas where there could have been more beds and it might also be an idea to put more chairs and tables by the main pool bar too. We all enjoyed the variety of food - main restaurant had a huge choice every meal time - the logistics of running that place are mind boggling ! There was sometimes a small wait for a table but not a problem and it was a lovely touch that you were always shown to your table. The views from outside were spectacular - you'd have to wait longer for an outside table but worth it for the breeze and calm! It is fair to say it was very hot in there at times and you had to stay alert to get back to your table as you negotiated (sometimes rude) people and unaccompanied small children who zoomed around grabbing their food! You could also book packed lunches from here which consisted of rolls, fruit, cake and water - perfect! The Chinese was absolutely superb, as was the Taverna, which had a lovely authentic feel and was right by the sea. The kids loved their pizza! Shame you had to join a huge queue at 8am the day before to book a table for either, but definitely worth it. Popcorn, donuts and soft drinks are available at the beach bar, toasties/paninis, ice cream, fruit and other desserts are available at the main pool bar and traditional Greek bread freshly made is at the smaller pool area (kids favourite lunch!). We definitely didn't go hungry! All the staff work so hard and were without exception friendly and welcoming. Special mention to George at the small pool bar - he always knew who was next, didn't let anyone push in, didn't take any messing either and had a great sense of Humour! There are loads of activities to try - water sports (pedals, kayaks, windsurfing plus banana boat/jet ski for an additional amount) & the animation team enthusiastically run a whole range of activities within the hotel 6 days a week with something for everyone. We didn't go to many of the evening shows, but the fire-eating on the beach was superb with a great atmosphere. Getting a seat in the main bar in the evening was difficult most nights as it was so busy, but with a bit of patience we'd get one eventually. The location of the hotel is great - 20 minutes transfer from the airport and within easy walking distance of shops/bars (if you're desperate for wifi or football!) and there's a bus stop outside to get into Heralklion (which is lovely and well worth a visit - try the open top bus tour but buy your tickets when you get on the open top bus as cheaper than buying at the hotel). There were a variety of nationalities staying at the Rinela and the Brits were definitely in the minority - lots of French, German and Russian. Not a problem for us personally, but very interesting to see how differently people can behave!! Overall an excellent holiday and very sad it's over!

Just back from the Rinella hotel and have to say is one of the the best holidaysI have had with my family. My son 17 and daughter 9 loved it, me and the wife had plenty of time to relax as they were always off doing something. The hotel it self is spotless and as for the staff from reception to restaurant to bar staff and cleaners all were very friendly always smiling and alwYs willing to help, really do not know what some people moaning about. The rooms were cleaned EVERYDAY and having the fridge was brilliant also. Our towels were changed everyday also. As I said the hotel and grounds are very well kept the pools areas are all cleaned every day and the beach in a word AWSUM. EVERYBODY on here mentions about sun beds but I have not been to family hotels yet where this is not an issue it happens everywhere at holiday destinations , we bought a small umbrella from supermarket for 10euros and days we did not get a bed we used that , people you are on HOLIDAY. Now to the food I had something different every night so how people can say lack of selection don't know and my children who can be picky tried new things and liked them, there is a very large selection of meat, fish, vegetables ,fruit and deserts and again cannot fault. Yes it is rather warm in the restaurant indoors but we coped fine and really not an issue Now finally the ANIMATION team led by the fantastic Leon again superb and they all work really hard to keep all the guests entertained and they are NOT selective far from it they work with all ages from children to adults and both ladies and gentleman. As I mentioned before both my children were kept entertained for the duration and both me and the wife joined in several activities . Would go as far to say one of the BEST animation teams I have had the pleasure to have seen. When you visit join in with them it will make your holiday as well as some great memories Now would I recommend yes I would Definately and will we visit agian without a shadow of a doubt

We have recently returned from a fantastic 2 week holiday to Mitsis Rinela. This was our 2nd time staying at the hotel, the first being 2 yrs ago. It hasn't changed at all in that time. Only 15 mins transfer from the airport. Regular bus just 4 euros return to Heraklion- Good Value. The staff are all smiles, and cannot do enough to make your holiday enjoyable. Nikos (Nik-Nak from 007!!) from the Taverna is always happy to meet you, and inform you about the wonderful food on offer, and what is a local dish etc.A really nice man, and a credit to Mitsis! The same with Magdelena in the Chinese, great service, always with a smile! The food is fantastic in all 3 resteraunts, with lots of choice. The Taverna food choice is freshly baked pizzas in the traditional wood oven, pork steaks, lovely kebabs, koftas and traditional meat(not like uk kebabs, REAL meat!) and this time chilli sauce was available(Wasnt 2 yrs ago!), then there is 4 dishes of choice that change daily, there are more traditional Greek dishes ie moussaka etc, all really tasty. The view over the sea is also great from this resteraunt, and the breeze is very welcome. The main resteraunt has the same as the taverna but with even more choice, both have an amazing salad bar, and the desert choice although small in the tavera(but ample) is amazing in the main resteraunt. All washed down with endless supply of beer and wine. Unfortunately I need to have my first negative point here. The heat in the main resteraunt is unbearable. By the time people leave they are all sweating profusely. There is simply no breeze or aircon whatsoever. Just simple fans in the ceilings would help no end as with the doors open aircon would not be sensible either. This also goes for the main reception and indoor bar areas.Always too hot and no moving air. Cheap fans would make all the difference. On to the animation team, now, I've read people moaning about them on here, and I think its very harsh. Its a big hotel, over 1300 guests with around 6 nationalities. The team are always doing something during the day, be it zumba, pool aerobics, table tennis competitions, volleyball, darts, water polo to name but a few. They simply couldnt do much more, and always with a smile! At night the shows are ok, but again, the effort is always 100% on their part, and they have to do it in 6 or more languages! The shows always get a giggle, but humor is viewed differently across nations(some jokes are a bit risque!) and we must remember, these guys are the same ones doing all the activities during the day. If you want west-end performances, go to Las Vegas! My hat goes off to all of them! Well done guys! The greek dancing and show once a week outside the main reception area is good, but the seating is always taken up very early, so not many people can get a good view. Also, I feel when this is on they could maybe have a DJ in the theatre to entertain other guests on this one night, just playing some classic music, just 80's pop or something? This would be very popular im sure. Now unfortunately on to my main gripe about the hotel, one that could easily be rectified. The sunbeds! If you want a sunbed on the beach, set your alarm for 6am! If you want one anywhere else you need to set it for 7am! I dont want to go on holiday and have to set an alarm in order to be able to get somewhere to relax with my family, its just not on. More sunbeds needed!!!(or less guests as space around the pools is tight) Also a good amount of the sunbeds were broken and quite dangerously sharp. This needs looking at! I believe this is normal for greek hotels, but still, there should be enough sunbeds for every guest staying. Simple! The beds in the rooms are quite hard, and we needed more pillows, but they came within minutes of our asking. The beach is pure sand, and the sea lovely and warm, no jellyfish or stones to worry about. The gardens are immaculately maintained by a large team of dedicated gardeners and make for a nice walk back to your rooms. The first week we were there I would say the hotel guests were 50% French, 30% Russian/Polish 10% English and 10% other. 2nd week was more like 50% English, 30% French. All in all I would give this 4.5 out of 5 for value for money. If Mitsis address the above issues above(Sunbeds and fans in reception/Resteraunts) then it would be nearly perfect.Forget about getting wifi also. Just doesnt work in the evening. If you go during the day you may be able to get 0.5Mbps but forget about any file downloads on your emails! This is as honest as it can be, and we are definately going to try more Mitsis hotels in the future!

First of all let me begin by saying that everyvody (well, mostly anybody) knows that hotels in Greece does not have the same rating system as the rest of Europe. Having said that - do not try to compare it to 5 stars hotels in Europe, but to other hotels in Greece. This hotel has its up sides and down sides, but overall - excellent hotel. I read some reviews about the free WiFi. Well - indeed during rush hours it is very hard to get a proper connection. Tip #1: there is a Vodafon shop around 400 meters to the west side (if you go out from the hotel turn right). You can buy a local SIM with 2GB of data and 200 minutes of local call for 15 Euros. That's enough for the whole family to use for a whole week. As for the sunbeds - treu there are people that reserve themselves a sunbed, but I have woken up every day at 07:00 to go to my daily swim, and there were a lot of available beds. True - at 08:00 there are only a few, but saying that at 06:00 there are no beds - well that's completely rubbish. About the bar - yes, during rush hours it is difficult to find a table, but you don't have to wait more than 5-10 minutes to get a table. And I do not think that it is reasonable to have tables to all the guests. It is very nice to sit with the whole family and play a card game with some drinks. Dining room - some queues here and there, but the food is fresh, cooked on the spot, and it might take some time to make new fresh pasta, so you have to wait a little bit, which is reasonable. The buffet is nice, a big variety even for vegeterians (not for Vegans though). The level of the food is not unified: sometimes good, sometimes less, but you can always find something good. Tip #2: try the greel Taverna - you need to book it a day before, but it is not crowded, the food is good (not the same as in the dinning room), and the atmosphere is great. Another great thing is the children's restaurant. It is a small dining room right next to the big dining room where the kids can serve themselves the kids "junk" (hot dogs / french fries / nuggets / mini burgers), and there is someone from the mini club to assist. That's an excellent idea! Tip #3: if you go out you can ask a "lunch basket" - with sandwitches, water, fruit and cakes. It was really helpful for the 3 days we went out. This really is awasome Pools area: lots of pools, the main pool is big and very deep. Tip #4: if you have small children better go to the pool near the slides, it is less deep. Down side of the pool: no lifeguard, and no one to supervise the water slide. My doughter got a nasty bruise from another girl who was not cautious. Animation team - well, Leo leads a great staff of animators, nice entertainment in the nights, nice activities during the day. Aga is responsible for all the dancing around the pool, and she is awasome. I canot say that they are very original, I did not see seomthing new, but they do a fabulous job. The review about them approaching only young ladies is a total crap. The room is cleaned daily, towels are also changed, and the mini bar is also inclusive and changed every 2 days. About the TV - I read some reviews that there are only 2 channels in English. Well - true, but did you come to watch TV on your vacation? Tip #5: If you need sun screen loation, or anything, you can walk ~800 meters from the hotel (to the west) to a big supermarket with all the things you need, and half the price from the hotel's store or the small stores near the hotel. The SPA - well, they have some deals every day. We took 2 55 minutes massage for 70 euro which really is a good deal comparing where I come from. However, my wife had a good massage, and I had one of the worst ever... So I cannot really recommend it. You pay cheap - that's what you get. And the funny thing is that after the massage they asked me how it was and I told them that it was not good, so they smiled and said thank you like they did not understand at all. The staff is very friendly, helpful and welcoming. From the maids, through the receptionists, and to the Bar tenders waiters. They all work very hard and do their best to make your stay as pleasant as they can. Nikos and Kostas in the dining room are very freindly and helpful. Yes there are cats wondering around the ground area, but they are harmless and do not have flees. If you are alergic to cats - well, maybe find another hotel. To summarize t1he review: excellent hotel compared to other greek hotels. I would definitely return
