After the bat flew past in the hall and we entered the damp musty room we realised we over estimated this place. Staff were nice but there is better value around the corner. We moved to a great place the next night for $2 more. Ok if you are out of options. We saw worse. Note that the price noted on this site is high. We paid $10.
This was the worst hotel we stayed at in 3 weeks in Vietnam, and it wasn't even the cheapest (US$25). It is central, next door to the very good restaurant La Carambole, but of course this adds to the considerable street noise. English was sketchy but staff were OK helpful (I think it's a family-run place). They rented us terrible rusty bikes with bent cranks and no front brakes, so go elsewhere for bicycles. They'll let you use the computer behind the desk for Internet. The room was large but half the lights didn't work, and bathroom was mildewed. Generally depressing. The rat looked sleek, though!
We chose the Dong Loi from the Footprint Guide to Vietnam. We were there for 4 nights. The lady who booked us in spoke excellent English and couldn't have been more helpful, fixing tours, taxis and onward hotel bookings for us. The hotel is right in the middle of the liveliest part of Hue, and its restaurant La Carambole is deservedly popular with expats and tourists, Vietnamese/French cooking of a very high standard. Although it's central the hotel is set some way back from the street and the rooms were surprisingly quiet. Oh, and it's clean and the laundry is done the same day.
