Superb holiday at Spring Hotel Vulcano

24 April 2015

I took my dad on holiday here for a week at the end of March. It was his first holiday for 2 years as he now finds walking difficult. The hotel made everything very easy. After the travel company...

Set back from the sea front so no sea views the hotel has an elderly clientele. The pool area us quite cramped and you do find that everyone seems to sit in rows. The main bar for evening drinks has no outside area so don't expect to sit outside for an evening drink. The staff seem very friendly and worked hard and the food and service was a good standard. We were in a ground floor room and their is little privacy. The hotel is a little tired externally now and could do with a face lift. The water pressure in our shower was not great. Las Americas has really improved from what it used to be like and the beaches restaurants and bars are plenty.

The hotel was very good indeed. Spotlessly clean, very helpful staff, great choice of food. We stayed for the middle two weeks of February and got what we went for - plenty of warm sunshine and a chance to tour all round Tenerife. We found Playa de las Americas a bit built up for our ideal holiday, but we hired a little car and could get out every day. Strolling along the prom to the harbour at Los Cristianos to watch the ships leaving and arriving over a coffee in a cafe in the sunshine was very good therapy, but mostly we went out.

Just returned from 12 days at the Vulcano. I chose it because of the reviews on Tripadvisor. I was not disappointed and very impressed and would definitely return again. The best bits: lovely, clean hotel with excellent facilities. Lovely pool, comfortable beds - slept really well every night. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Even though, as you go into dinner, there are people selling gifts, they are friendly and not pushy. The hotel was full of mostly English people in the 60+ bracket, but this was exactly what I wanted and everyone was friendly (I travelled on my own this time). The niggly bits were the dreadful wi-fi signal that was quite poor at times - and even us 60+ are increasingly using internet! At the Vulcano you have to be in the foyer area to get a signal, so were often several people trying to use FaceTime or Skype at the same time. In the UK, this would be deal-breaker for me - I would stay somewhere else if there was a poor wi-fi signal, but I had such a good time at the Vulcano, that I was able to minimise my addiction to my ipad! In any hotel, it is difficult eating alone, and I had hoped that there would be other singles there, but I didn't see any. I did pal up with a lovely couple of ladies from Barnsley and we had a wonderful time until they left for home! Dinner was a bit lonely after that. The food is plentiful and there is plenty of choice. I did find, though, that the waiters did clear the tables really quickly so several times, I felt hurried. I did not see any water available to have with you meal, so had to buy bottled water every night as I didn't want alcohol. I didn't rave about the food as most people do, but, at home, I eat a lot of fresh veg and I think these are not so available on Tenerife being a volcanic island. I did enjoy the food though, and the griddle is definitely worth a visit. I was particularly impressed with the free taxi to and from the airport, supplied by the hotel. This was easy to use and I did not have to queue or wait for this either going or coming to the hotel. Excellent service. Also, the first night, I wasn't keen on the room I had been allocated as I had booked a 'pool view' and the room I had been given was not a pool view. After the first night, the hotel changed my room without any fuss and were happy to do so. I was very pleased with the room even though I could hear the evening entertainment quite loudly until late. (Room 276) Other plus to mention is that the TV gets BBC1 and ITV, so was great to be able to watch my soaps whilst away and be able to see the News. The cleaning staff are very efficient and friendly and do an excellent job. I only attended the hotel's entertainment on one evening, but it was excellent. Thank you Vulcano, for a wonderful holiday, I will definitely be back (better wi-fi next time?? please!)
