Booked with Jet 2 Holidays only a few weeks before we travelled. Wasn't much choice available so plumped for the Altamar as it seemed to tick all the boxes. Was a bit concerned at first thinking we had booked what was left cos' no-one else wanted it, I was wrong! What a good choice it turned out to be. Booked the Club Room apartment and very pleased when we arrived. The Club Rooms have the best location in the block beside the reception on level 6 and the pool/bar/restaurant on level 3. They have added perks such as free tv satellite channels, electrical equipment in the kitchens, safe and sunbed mattresses. (All items that you would have to pay for in the standard apartment.) We paid 28eur to have Wi-Fi in the rooms for our 2 week stay which allows 2 electrical devices to be used simultaneously - kept the kids happy with that so not a bad investment! Maids came around daily and linen changed once a week. They worked really hard keeping everything spotless. The air con was not a vented system, but 2 ceiling fans, 1 in each room. They were quite noisy until you got used to them. One of the best aspects of the Altamar apartments are the balconies. They are huge and all have table/4 chairs, umbrella and 2 sunbeds each, not to mention the fantastic view. We stayed B&B so cant comment much on the food but the breakfasts were good, although a little repetitive towards the end. We wandered up to the Europa Centre about 5 mins stroll away and ate well every night in the restaurants. Everyone offered a special menu for around 10eur per person which offered 3 courses plus the obligatory honey rum which was a complimentary drink everywhere we ate! They sometimes let the kids eat for free if they were wanting you thru' the door which was a great deal. Would recommend this option to anyone as we never had a bad meal and the set menus are very extensive. Had the kids with us so normally had a drink afterwards in Tommy Tuckers or Barbacoa which had a entertainments area for kids (trampolines/pool tables/rides etc) though there are more pubs to choose from. Back at the hotel the entertainment at night was hit/miss. We loved the hypnotist show and one of the acrobat shows was good but others sometimes had something lacking. Gazza was in charge of the entertainment and was a funny guy. He ran the happy hour, 4-5pm, every day which had BINGO! Only a euro a game, very popular, most games went with 100eur for a line and 300eur for the house! The pool areas always had free beds once the bingo started! Pools were lovely. The usual saga with beds being claimed from 8am onwards despite tannoy announcements requesting you not to. We normally went down later in afternoon and could always get a couple of beds once the bingo had started! Its a bit of a squeeze on the terrace as you are packed in like sardines but you get used to it. It was too hot for us anyway to be in the sun all day so we were happy wandering down later in the day. We spent a lot of our days on Amadores Beach. Either you walk down/up the hill to get there or catch a taxi outside hotel for 3eur fare including tip. The beach is gorgeous and the water is a beautiful turquoise colour. 4eur on the beach for each bed/umbrella you hire. Also caught the no1 bus from bottom of hill to Playa Taurito where there is a small water park. 1eur40 per person on the local bus and entrance fee is 14eur per adult and only 5eur for under 12s. Excellent value for money with enough slides to keep them occupied for a few hours. Also worth the walk from the hotel to Puerto Rico, head down the stairs beside the Puerto Azul, or taxi again 3eur. We caught the ferry to Mogan on Friday from the marina - market day, and had a great day down there grabbing some bargains. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, bear in mind its on the top of a hill and is built in the side of a cliff and although there are lifts, it was normally quicker to walk up/down the stairs so those who need to use the lift, be patient, be very patient, they do arrive eventually! A great holiday, lovely hotel, fab weather, couldn't ask for anything more. Well done Altamar, we had a fantastic time.

We loved our stay here and could not fault it!! Staff are fab and will help with anything that you need. Yes the area is very hilly and there are alot of steps but we went knowing this as we have stayed here 4 times in the last 16 years and each time enjoyed it. Lota for the children to do pools are lovely views lovely food excellent we never struggled to find something to each and i am wheat free due to wheat intolerance and was able to eat fine!! If we are every going back to this area we will use the hotel again. We are really loved the hotel and the area.

We found the Altamar much improved since our last visit. We had to upgrade our apartment because the one allocated seemed very tired and dark. Very happy with 2nd apartment though. We booked half board because we knew the food was good, and it was excellent this time. Cleaners were very thorough. Saw only one cockroach in 14 days and that was outside. Saving sunbeds was a no no and announcements were made regularly to the guests. The bus service does not run anymore but reception will willingly order one. Will be returning again.

Very nice apartments with a fantastic view. Apartments clean and a resonable size, could be doing with a little tlc but just general wear and tear. For me the bathroom could be improved but it was clean. We payed extra for a club room so our room was cleaned and fresh towels left 6 out of 7 days. Safe, hairdryer, dressing gowns also included. We went all inclusive and I found the food great and I am a little fussy! I particularly liked breakfast. Beer, wine, sangria, water and fizzy juice all on tap (you helped yourself) and you were allowed to order two drinks per person at the bar. Local drinks on AI but personally I found them fine. Bar staff were generous with measures. Don't recommend the cocktails. The pool areas were fine, usual high demand for sun loungers but we found the hotel was quieter the second half of our stay. The kids club seemed very popular and the eight year old in our party loved it. Was a good way to meet other kids and give adults a bit of time to relax. The staff seemed very friendly. The Bingo was also very popular with a chance to win over €200 every game. There is a Spar shop located in reception which was handy (almost too handy as you probably spent money you didn't need to especially if your were all inclusive). The hotel has LOTS of stairs and the lifts seemed more hassle than they were worth. Not helped by some little brats feeling the need to press all the buttons but that is more down to bad parenting! I would suggest a visit to Amadores beach, very clean and good restaurants located just off the beach. Overall I would recommend this hotel, mainly if you have children. A very good 3 star hotel but if you are used to staying in 4 star plus then you will notice a difference.
