My boyfriend and I came here for our first holiday together. We stayed here for two weeks, all inclusive and had a good holiday. Rooms : Rooms were very standard, every room was made for self catering. The fridge freezer came in handy. Cleaners were in every 2-3 days. Balcony was fine, table with 4 chairs, 2 sun loungers and a parasol - although we found our balcony to be a bit smaller than some other people's but wasn't that much of an issue as we only spent a couple of days on the balcony. Layout: Our hotel room was down on first floor. we used the lift most days as the restaurant and pool area was up on 4th floor and the reception was way at the top on 8th! Stairs were very steep and not easy to walk up due to the fact I have asthma so would definitely recommend the lift! The hotel in general was kept very tidy and clean! Staff were always seen cleaning and did a great job. Lift: We were there for two weeks and we didn't come across any problems with the lift breaking down. Only issue was how long we had to wait on the lift due to lots of people using it at the same time. (There are two lifts, one at each side) Food: Food was good, couldn't fault it. Credit to the chefs who put their heart and souls into making the food. I'm a very fussy eater but didn't struggle to find something to eat for each meal. Favourite meal had to be BBQ night or the Italian night. Finished plates were taken away promptly by the restaurant staff who were fantastic and always busy doing something! Only managed to get one of their names and that was a gentleman called Andres - such a gem. All inclusive drinks: All inclusive drinks were okay although there are only 3 cocktails on the menu and only 1 of which I actually liked! These were Caribbean sunset, blue lagoon and a non- alcoholic cocktail. Would have been nice to have some other choices of cocktail..I usually just paid extra for the better tasting cocktails which were only 2 euros for the people on the all inclusive package. Soft drinks and some alcoholic drinks such as tropical beer and wine were available from 11:00-23:00 for those on the all inclusive package to pour themselves which was good. There's a rule that you are only allowed to get one drink at a time but I seen lots of people coming away with a whole tray of drinks and it not being a problem! Pool areas: There are 2 pools - one was located next to the bar making it the busiest pool and the other one a bit further away which was supposed to be the "quiet pool' which was the total opposite! Gets quite noisy with all the kids running about. Bar staff: Some bar staff were brilliant but on the other hand others weren't so friendly! Thinking of one in particular but didn't get his name - Every time I'd go ask for a drink he looked so angry as if it was such a mission just to crush a bit of ice! Rarely smiled and just didn't look happy to be at work! Such a shame because all of the other staff made an effort with everyone. Sun loungers: Some days were such a mission to find sun loungers so to get a chance of getting one you'd have to be up early to go reserve one! We went down about half 8 each morning just before breakfast to get one and there were plenty around that time although some people were getting up around 7am just to get the ones they wanted! I found it very selfish that some people would go reserve sun loungers but then they weren't seen the whole day, made me so angry as it wasn't fair on people who would have actually made use of them! A new rule was announced about 2 days before we left that if sun loungers were left with towels on them for 45 minutes and no one was seen at them, that their towels would be removed and the sun loungers would be given to someone else so hopefully they keep this rule in place! Entertainment: Didn't go to see the entertainment every night of our holiday but the nights we did go it was fab! Parrot show was fantastic. There was also a hypnotist night, a big quiz night, acrobatic show and a reptile show! (Entertainment was every night from 22:00-23:00 with a kids disco before it). Were all excellent. Only thing I would fault is the layout of where they stage the shows! It's in the restaurant so everyone just sits at their own tables to watch, very frustrating as there are always people's heads in the way or people are standing In front of you blocking your view! Cats: There are cats everywhere here! There was one in particular that visited our balcony every day so we bought him ham from the spar up in the reception area and fed/watered him. Very friendly. We named him alfonzo. Location: Our hotel was at the very top of a cliff. Taxis were always available right outside the hotel- very cheap! Only cost 4 euros to get into Puerto Rico town centre! Overall we had a good holiday here but feel it's more family orientated! May return in the future when we have a family of our own!

Myself and my partner stayed here for two weeks in July on checking in we were told we had to leave our passports with reception for them To take copy's of - found this a little strange but we did get them back the next day. We were given a map for us to find our apartment - little confusing we took the lift down to the first floor and had to go down another set of stairs two corridors along to get to our apartment - the apartment is very basic but it has everything you need and I can't fault the cleanliness the living area is corner sofa a small coffee table and a unit under the TV The kitchen is compact but does have all you need - we never used it as we were all inclusive The bathroom is pretty big the shower isn't the best but nothing to complain about The bedroom is big enough 2 single beds pushed together to make a double and it does have a built in mirrored wardrobe with the safe in it There is no air conditioning only two fans one in the bedroom and one in the living room - which isn't great during the night On the balcony there is two sun loungers a parasol and table and chairs - we seemed to have a smaller balcony than everyone else ... The hotel does have wifi but it's only free in the reception area - it costs 28 euros for two weeks - even then it's only really good in you're room and doesn't work in the dining room very well You have to pay extra for the key to the safe think it was about 25 euros again for two weeks If you want an extra key it's a 5 euro deposit and you get it back when you leave The hotel is set out over 8 floors Reception and a spar (shop) is on the 8th floor The bar/restaurant is on the 4th floor along with the two pools The other floors are living accommodation The food is buffet style and the options are decent and it does change a round each night but it does get repetitive especially lunch time I'm a fussy eater and I always found something I liked The BBQ night was the best in my opinion The all inclusive drinks weren't great in my opinion - the local vodka isn't nice and the local beer is tropical which personally is horrible - some people seemed to like it. There is only two cocktails free on the all inclusive menu which aren't great. the rest is a surplus of €1.50 for likes of you're cosmopolitan n that The two pools are decent sized and don't allow inflatables in them Which is pretty good means more space for everyone - this is a family hotel so usually swapped with kids jumping in constantly The sun lounger situation is a strange one - I heard of the 45 minute rule whilst I was there but never seen it enforced we always managed to get loungers just before breakfast and didn't have to get up too early to get one - but if you wanted a pool side one then yeah you would have to get up pretty early to get one The hotel is situated right at the the top of a cliff but it does have a taxi rank right outside it and it only costs €4 to get a taxi down to Puerto Rico centre or the beach most of the drivers we had do speak decent English There is a shopping centre about 5 minute walk away the Europa centre which has plenty of bars and places to eat in it if you fancy a change also has a doctors and a pharmacy Also has a crazy golf course which is pretty good The hotel staff are very nice and kind and plenty helpful the maids clean the rooms every 2/3 days and change the towels. If you need clean ones before then just ask and you're given them The hotel entertainment is different every night for two weeks and the majority of the shows were pretty good the only let down is the shows are done in the bar area and if you're not seated at the very front it can be hard to see the shows Overall I enjoyed my time in gran canaria and I can't fault the hotel it's a nice family friendly hotel which clientele are majority British and they cater for them Would i go back to this hotel properly not but that's just personal choice no air conditioning and the drinks ruined it for me but these are small things and if you had kids you'd properly really enjoy it and I would recommend anyone with a family looking for a cheapish holiday to go here.

We stopped here at the start of the school holidays. It was packed to to bursting with people. We stayed self catering tip take a travel kettle. Our room was on the 3rd floor but then still had to carry cases up and down 2 flights of stairs. There is 2 lifts for the whole hotel serving 16 floors. These are a pain they have mind if their own we found ourselves walking up around 10 flights of stairs every time we wanted to go the shop reception or out of the complex. Sun loungers. We got 2 loungers for 4 of us which was fine coz the kids could sit in ours. We left the kids in the pool why we went to the bar terrace to have a drink as not suitable to have drinking around the pool as too many people all close together and no small tables to put drinks on. We the shouted the kids up for a ice cream and when we finished we went back down to find our towels missing. Our loungers had someone else's things on it but yet nobody insight. We then sat up on the terrace and watched our children in the pool and for 1 1/2 hours nobody returned to the loungers. Apparently if you leave your lounger unoccupied for 45 minutes your belongings are removed. Never have I experienced this in my life. We were having one drink and ice cream gone just over 1/2 hour after waiting 10 minutes at the bar to be served. But our stuff was still moved. The next day we got 4 loungers one each. All had towels on. My husband took my son to the shop and left me and my daughter on the loungers and I was watching them climbing the stairs having a race turned around to see one of the towels on the floor and our lounger had been carried away. The hotel needs to sort out the lounger situation provide more because this really lets the place down. To be honest the night we arrived we went to the bar for a drink and sat in middle of two families with children fing and blinding this is what clientele the place has. Might be different out of school holidays but I won't be trying it again.

Stayed at the Altamar for 1 week from 29th June 2015. This is my 5th time staying at this hotel and will not stay anywhere else in Puerto Rico. The hotel as usual is clean, rooms cleaned, towels & bedding changed regularly. It was our first time staying Half Board. I am a fussy eater but I found the food options quite good and tasty. The staff were always friendly and quite helpful. The rooms are great, 2 single beds, come with air con in the living room and bedroom. The only problem I will say is the lifts are very slow! Overall a great holiday.
