We used to say we would never go back to the same hotel but after visiting the Papagayo for the 1st time in 2008 that changed! We love this hotel!! This is a large complex at the far end of Playa Blanca and is about 35 mins walk from the Marina Rubicon. Walk is along a coastal walkway and is lovely. The hotel rooms we have always stayed in are A/B block - these are upgraded rooms but it's well worth it as the views are stunning. The hotel itself is very clean. The grounds are well kept as are the pool areas. The pools (although I believe one is meant to be heated) are so cold, you hardly see anyone using them! The communal areas are nice, they have updated the pool bar and terrace, although a couple of the indoor bar areas aren't currently open and seem a little bit unloved. I'm sure in the height of summer they would be open. The hotel has a main buffet restaurant serving just about every kind of food imaginable! The food is delicious and piping hot. Loved the breakfast & the show cooking too. Great range of soups, bread, salads, meat, fish and desserts plus an Italian section serving pizza and pasta - open lunch and dinner times. We ate one evening at the Mexican Restaurant - which is based in what is the "snack bar" during the day and over night. The food was very nice here too. Drinks at the hotel are "local". The beer is good, as are the soft drinks, fizzy wine and barista coffee made for you (not from the machine) in the canary bar. The wine is not good and the pre-made cocktails and spirits/mixers always tasted too strong. The canary bar has good seating and lovely views towards Fuerteventura. The green bar is always a favourite in the evening. Teresa who works behind the bar is great. She has a photographic memory and remembers not only us, but our drinks order each time! Entertainment here is easy to listen to. Pepe with his piano/sax/flute/clarinet and Pablo with his piano/violin. All in all, the hotel offers a great package and is very reasonably priced. Will we return?? Definitely!! To sum it up - great hotel, peaceful location, brilliant staff, delicious plentiful food & gorgeous views - heavenly!!
This is our third consecutive year of holidaying in the Canaries at this time of the year. We love the sunny break to cut through winter. Last year we went to Gran Canaria, year before Tenerife (will...
stayed for a week with wife and another couple feb 22 - march 2. booked this hotel mainly on its good tripadvisor review and on budget at £500 for the week. emailed the hotel beforehand as my friends wife is pregnant and was given a ground floor rooms next to each other which was really nice. the rooms are spacious with air con and tv with a few english channels, maily music and a few kids ones. the bathroom was excellent. twin basins and the most powerful shower ever!! the food was really good. fresh salad and fruit everyday, show cooking of at least 2 things, usually meat and fish. serivce was really good. ok, it is a large dinning room and can be a bit canteen-y at times but that all inclusive for you. tried both the mexican and chinese and both were good, same bufffett style but alor smaller setting. the pool areas where good, spacious and clean. no struggle for a bed even tho the hotel was full. it is a windy island and been on the headland it can get windy but lanzarote is a windy island. the entertainment is a bit hit and miss but the animation team do their best. we watched lion king play in spanish which was different and as the threate is open to the elements it can get abit fresh. and the plastis cups arent to everyones tastes! we used pluscar in the hotel for a motor and they where good value. you can also walk to the marina in about 20-30mins but playa blanca itself is an hour away. taxi's are dead cheap tho, to playa is only 5 euros. would definitly recomend this hotel and if i was to visit lanzarote again i would happily stay here again.
GOOD POINTS Nicely located next to the sea with comfortable, large, sea-facing room. 20 minute walk to Marina. Food quality good. Good outside space with plenty of beds. Clean rooms and...
This is our third consecutive year of holidaying in the Canaries at this time of the year. We love the sunny break to cut through winter. Last year we went to Gran Canaria, year before Tenerife (will explain my point later. We have 3 kids aged 11, 9, 7. Two oldest are girls, then boy just so you can compare or disregard accordingly. Overall we loved this hotel. The weather was a little disappointing but clearly this is no fault of the hotel. I'll split the rest of this review into pieces. STAFF I'd seen some mixed reviews about staff but we experienced nothing negative at all. Reception staff are very helpful and welcoming. Dining staff are pleasant and work so hard. If you are a larger group like us an appropriate table can be sorted for you and at times the staff disagreed where to put you but it always got sorted. ROOM Perfect for us. It was like 2 rooms adapted to 1 so we felt there was plenty of space. Good wardrobe space but not many hangers. Large balcony as a result although because the balcony edge was solid you couldn't really appreciate the evening views out to sea. However, I would imagine this is because it's a family room? We were in E block (room 1068) and its location was perfect. As we were at the far end of the complex we didn't have people charging past at all hours which we hate. Same applies in the mornings too. FOOD We thought the food was great. Good levels of choice, tasty, hot. If you had an issue they sorted it quickly and satisfactorily. You can book to eat in the Chinese, French or Mexican restaurants which doesn't cost any more but does get booked up quite quickly. You have to book at least 24 hours ahead but if you arrive on Monday say, you can book for the Weds. Ask reception to clarify as these extra restaurants aren't open every night. We ate in the Chinese and loved it. The main part of the restaurant is split approximately 2/3 "international" 1/3 "Italian". You can sit in either and use the buffets in either. The Italian part tends to be quieter though we weren't sure why! Bars were great including some lovely non alcoholic cocktails. Staff were always efficient and pleasant if you are polite to them - same the world over most of the time!!!! POOLS There are 4 pools. Two cold (one was about 16 degrees, not sure about the other) two less cold (toddler pool and adult pool about 25 degrees). If the sun was out we were fine in the latter but as the island is quite windy, when the sun went in even these were quite chilly. The warmer adult pool was a struggle for our 7 year old as he couldn't touch the bottom at all-all one depth- which is a little frustrating. Seemed mad that at this time of year essentially 2 pools are completely out of action. Bit of a theme in the canaries. Would give hotels the edge if their pools were actually WARM in the canaries full stop !!! ELITE We really can't comment as we didn't pay the extra. I would imagine if you were a couple, some quiet lounge would definitely appeal as this is a pretty big hotel however, we just didn't feel we were missing out. NEARBY You can walk along the coastal bricked path to nearby supermarkets and shops really easily. There are no supermarkets in the hotel but there are some gift shops which are a little overpriced unsurprisingly. DECOR We noticed that some people had reviewed how poor it was and we would say if you go looking for cracks in the plaster you will probably find some!!! However, this is a great, tidy and generally clean hotel but it's big and by the sea. Eventually, cracks appear!!!! OVERALL Yes, we would come back in theory however, this island is pretty windy and we found that being at the southern tip meant we were sometimes at the mercy of cloud accumulation as it past over its volcanic masses. When the sun isn't out in Feb it's quite chilly. We prefer the other two Canary Islands for slightly less variation in temps. However, this is a hotel with a great ethos consequent level of service - nothing seems too much trouble.
The hotel is the last one in Playa Blanca, next to the Papagayo beaches. You can literally walk out of the hotel into nature. On the other side is a 30min walk along the coastal path to the marina...
GOOD POINTS Nicely located next to the sea with comfortable, large, sea-facing room. 20 minute walk to Marina. Food quality good. Good outside space with plenty of beds. Clean rooms and general areas. NOT SO GOOD POINTS Public rooms seem dedicated to kids with pool tables/table tennis tables/amusements throughout the atrium. Entertainment room is a cold 'barn' of a place, made worse by inclement weather, with hard wooden seats and Bacardi & Coke served in cardboard cups! Restaurant very large and 'canteen-like' with wine and drinks served from 'help-yourself' taps. The Italian & Chinese were simply an extension to the restaurant, where they placed the Italian & Chinese fare - same experience as main restaurant. Very impersonal and little interaction from the staff. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.
Cheap Playa Blanca holidays are more or less a fixture for tourists the whole year round, thanks in no small part to the consistently warm Lanzarote temperatures - consistently hot, that is! Hot it may be, averaging around 18° Celsius in December and 26° Celsius by the summer, but sultry breezes, courtesy of the trade winds, mean you’re never flustered. Having said that, ensure you have your sun cream on at all times to protect you from the sun's rays.
As UK, Courses or boosters sometimes advised: hepatitis A (not normally for package tourists).
