This was a trip to meet up with some friends who were holidaying in the same area and was quite last minute as I couldn't get accommodation in their hotel. In the end...despite theirs (apparently) being 4 star, this one turned out to be far better. (I think it is classed as 3 star due to lack of air con , which at the time of my visit wasn't a problem even though the weather was a superb sunny 28degrees each day)?) Whilst the location is away from the beach they do run a courtesy coach regularly and it is an easy walk to the Kasbah shopping and club area of del Ingles. The upper floor rooms are gradually being renovated and whilst mine on 3rd floor was a bit tired and 'old fashioned spanish hotel' style it was clean and spacious. A note here that if like me, you are a single traveller...DO ensure before you book that you are getting a double room single occupancy arrangement as even though I believed this to be the case, they initially tried to put me into a single room with NO balcony. It was adjusted at reception as I arrived, Do take photo evidence of your booking just in case. The food is plentiful and yes buffet style, but the weather was so good I ate all my meals outside. The hotel appeared pretty full but I never had to queue for food and the selection was wide, varied and of good quality. Of course the continentals never seem to like food too hot!, but they did have a supply of plates in a warmer. You will not go hungry...with often smoked salmon included at breakfast ( along with cava, even though I was on half board terms) and the serrano ham was sometimes freshly cut off the bone as you waited. If you are quick, before the grabber guzzlers get there, they even laid out sherry with the cheese board. The general feel of the furnishings and spaciousness in the public areas made this far superior to a supposed 4 star hotel I also visited...with plenty of room around the bars and entertainment areas by the pool. What really set this apart for me was the luxurious spa underneath the hotel. In a class of its own compared to many around the world I have experienced. It was almost in error that I went there as spa and gym both have 3 letters and I avoid each of them usually!......The most I ever saw in there were 5 people including me , to share two massive warm pools, various jacuzzi's, fountains and a Dead Sea salt pool together with steam room and sauna. Similarly they have a roof top 'solarium' with its own jacuzzi and spectacular views......space for about 20 or so on very comfy cane loungers but again never more than 7 others there in my visits. If I go to Gran Canaria again this would definitely be on my list...friendly and seemingly happy staff, comfortable surroundings, free wifi, good food and plenty of it...and that spa and solarium. Pay a day visit just to see it for yourself if you are nearby!

I have a couple of previous reviews of this hotel, therefore I am keeping this to a minimum. Had a refurbished room on the 8th floor, because it was at the end it doesn't have the lounge area, but this doesn't bother us as it means the bedroom area is bright in the mornings and there is a window in the bathroom. It was "end of winter carnival" while we stayed for the week and I was looking forward to it, but it went right past the hotel for 5 hours and was really noisy. The staff did get very involved and dressed up and created a great atmosphere. The food was good, plates always very hot and so was the food (I don't know where complaints arise with cold food/plates) but after my third time here I am getting a little tired of the food, however I am booked again for November and I am looking forward to it, so well done to staff and management. We took the regular bus (#66) from the airport which costs €3.50 and stops very close to the hotel (25mins).
Gran Canaria enjoys year-round warm temperatures and sunshine with very little seasonal variation. Summers are hot and dry while winters are slightly cooler with some showers. Like the rest of the island, Playa del Ingles has year round warm temperatures making it a hugely popular choice during the cold British winter.
As UK, Courses or boosters sometimes advised: hepatitis A (not normally for package tourists).
