My room was at the end of a corridor - spacious, bright and airy with a lovely large terrace. My room layout was quite different from the standard rooms which have a bedroom area just inside the door with wardrobes leading to a living area and then onto the terrace. The hotel is in the process of renovating the rooms - they have the same layout but with lighter furniture, brighter lighting and a lovely shower/bathroom. Noise and dirt from the workmen was minimal during my stay. The food was varied with something for everyone - plenty of salads, vegetables, potatoes, rice, pasta, fresh fruit, cakes, cheese board. The freshly cooked fish and meats for lunch and supper were always lovely. Some nice touches were Cava at breakfast, glasses of sherry with the cheeseboard, twice there was smoked salmon for breakfast and the Serrano ham was lovely. I had a couple of lunches at the Terrace Bar which served a nice variety of dishes and the Pool Bar had snacks such as hotdogs during the afternoon. The main buffet restaurant had a small part of the terrace set aside for non-smokers although unfortunately it was not always respected. More non-smoking zones would have been much appreciated. The hotel offered free wifi which worked quite well in the main hotel area, restaurants and restaurant/bar terraces. It did not work in my room although that may have been because I was at the end of a corridor. The pool area was well kept and clean with plenty of sunloungers. The Wellness Centre was excellent. Children were admitted in the mornings so it was very noisy and busy then – much quieter and more relaxing after lunch. It had a sauna, steam room, various pools with hydro jets and Jacuzzis, a Dead Sea pool, ice tunnel, light room, relaxation areas. Non-residents paid €50, entry was free for residents. There was a wide range of treatments available at extra cost. This was also where residents rented pool towels - €9 deposit, €1 ‘laundry charge’ each time the towel was changed. The gym was very well-equipped, light and airy with ceiling fans and looked out over the hotel gardens. It also had a wet room although people tended to go back to their hotel rooms to shower afterwards. From a hygiene point of view, I would have liked disinfectant products available for people to clean the equipment after use. There was a lovely roof terrace with a Jacuzzi and a partitioned area for nude sunbathing. It would have been lovely had this area been ‘Adults Only’ – I never saw any children unaccompanied, but felt it was unnecessary when couples brought their children to play in the Jacuzzi. There are several things to keep children occupied such as the swimming pool, mini golf and the entertainment team often organised games. In the evenings during my stay there was live music and dancing at the Terrace Bar and various shows or other entertainment in the Drago Bar. The hotel had a complimentary bus service to Maspalomas, a 15 minute drive. There was also a public bus stop about five minutes’ walk with services to various places on the island. There were shops and bars near the hotel and the beach was a ten minute walk. Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming.

I admit it: origninally I was planning in the same 4* adults only hotel where I stayed last year. But they cancelled my reservation due to the hotel closing down due to road works in front of the hotel. So Eugenia Victoria was not my first choice. The first impression was not so positive: room was not having the most modern look, and one has to pay for making use of the safety deposit box ( this is actually outrageous). Yet the check in staff spoke Dutch and were very nice. However in the next days I appreciated the hotel more and more: food buffet was very nice. There was never stress to find a free spot at the pool ( despite that the hotel was pretty full ) and also for breakfast and dinner there was never an issue to find a free seat. The SPA and wellness center were amazing! The free bus shuttle to El Faro de Maspolamas was appreciated. Location? Also very nice: within a good 10 minute walk you were at the beach of Playa del Ingles and in 5 minutes you arrive at Yumbo.

I am still here at this noisy building site, will add more info when I return home. There is ongoing building / refurbishment. Noise starts at 08:00 and has just finished at 17:45. Complained to Jet2 who contacted hotel and was offered a free massage in the spa. Was told I could claim £20 ABTA compensation , I paid over £2K for the week for 3 of us. Declined these offers, it should be made known of any building works beforehand. My advice is spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
