The Barcelo is a stunning hotel - from the grand reception area to the huge pool - it certainly doesn't disappoint in terms of luxury accomodation. We arrived for a winter break and were offered a free drink while we waited for our rooms to be available - on check in, we were told we'd been given a free upgrade to a superior room :-) The room itself was lovely - large comfortable beds, modern decor and a patio/balcony area. The only slight negative regarding our room was that it had a connecting door to the room next door - obviously it was locked but it did mean that on occasions, the noise carried very easily and we could often hear entire conversations etc very clearly through the door! The hotel grounds are gorgeous, sculptured gardens with a massive pool and surrounded by sunbeds plus it sits almost directly on the Caleta beach and there is a door at the back of the gardens/pool area which allows you a direct route right onto the pathway at the beach. After our first night, we decided to upgrade from HB to AI at a cost of around £10 each per night. This was very much worth it as the hotel is not the cheapest for drinks etc so just in poolside drinks alone e.g. water, cola, beer, we definitely got our moneys worth! The food was really fantastic - freshly cooked in front of you and a large and varied selection (although the freshly made pancakes at breakfast were far and above my favourite!) Also, definitely check out the cocktails at the bar - Pina Coladas were to die for! The staff were always very friendly and helpful, especially the restaurant staff, and the entertainment team were AMAZING! Every night there was a show on akin to a broadway musical! The hotel boasts a dedicated entertainment area which is laid out like a proper theatre and which was busy every night. I'm not usually a fan of entertainment in hotels but this was genuinely another level - definitely worth checking out! I'd definitely return to the Barcelo in the future - service and the hotel are really 5* - well done!

I'd say for a basic family holiday, this is a good place. The majority of staff are friendly enough and can speak many different languages. The hotel was clean and the range of food was very good. Each lunch and dinner fish, meat and vegetarian options are available. Not always cooked to my taste but definitely plenty to offer! We stayed for two weeks, all inclusive. As others have said the all inclusive finishes at 11 and only includes basic drinks. Of course going on holiday doesn't mean you need WiFi but with a family with teenagers it certainly helps! There is free WiFi in the hotel but during "peak" times it becomes impossible to connect to. There also is no courtesy room which was something of a disappointment for us as we flew later in the day and had to juggle suitcases in the shower cubicle. The outdoor bar and seating area is also too small for the evening crowd. We didn't manage to find a place to sit there a single evening of the two weeks. The animation team for the hotel however were very good. Many activities are on offer during the day with sports, games, quizzes and demonstrations. Each evening a show of some variety was provided and as long as you arrive within plenty of time you can get seated.

Lovely hotel and grounds. Great location and beautiful resort. This hotel is geared for families with small children. The entertainment finishes at 10.45pm and that's it!!!! No dancing area and the entertainment is painful!!!! We have been spoilt by Thomson GOLD. So if you are a couple who like great acts with great shows and dancing, go GOLD. Always plenty of food to eat and lovely bars and restaurants around. I would return to the resort but NOT to this hotel, purely because of the entertainment. If you are AI you can get half price drinks from 11pm at the bar, but it is dead! You have to get up early for a sunbed with a parasol but if you are not fussed you can still get a bed at lunchtime. Yet again the Britons reserve beds by 7am and don't come down to them until 11.. .Aircon in restaurant is not great so does get hot. They have relaxed the LONG trousers to dinner for men, but be aware, men cannot wear vest tops at all, not even at lunch. There are great bars and restaurants all around the hotel and it is reasonable to eat out even when you are AI. Didn't bother us but the WIFI is basically impossible to connect to. If you get the chance, on a Friday evening in the Aloe Bar, go and see the guy sing SWING, hes the only one with talent! Overall a lovely holiday but we always had a walk and drinks out at some point through the evenings to avoid the torture of the entertainment team miming and prancing around on the stage!!!
