We have just got back from a week at Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort. It is a huge, sprawling resort with several bars, restaurants and pools and is very clean and well kept. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were really happy with our room which was spacious, with a comfortable bed, a nice balcony and a big bathroom. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room, I think this is available if you opt for Royal Elite however we felt this should just be standard in a 4* hotel. The hotel is in a lovely position, a short walk across the cliffs to the stunning papagayo beaches and 30 minutes walk in the other direction to Playa Blanca, which has some nice restaurants, shops and again lovely beaches. The main restaurant had a large selection of food, however some of it we found quite bland and the quality was not always great. Breakfast was okay but cereals were stale and there was no fresh orange juice (this is available in Royal Elite but again, we felt it should be standard). The Italian section of the restaurant is much nicer than the main part and the Italian chef was great, cooking up delicious fresh pastas etc. We tended to opt for this when we ate in. The snack bar is a good addition and has a nice selection of snacks available outside of normal mealtimes. We also ate in the Mexican restaurant which was nicely done and a welcome change, and the Oriental, which was okay but nothing special. There are a few bars and the Green Bar has some good live music in the evenings. There is also a theatre, where the animation team put on evening shows. They try hard but we just didn't get it - musical tribute shows where the team mime to a backtrack. Not the best entertainment we've seen. The gym and spa is fine and I enjoyed a nice massage while we were there. All in all, we had a nice relaxing week but would probably wouldn't return to this hotel as the attention to detail was lacking and it just didn't compare in quality to other 4* hotels we have stayed in at a similar price.

Just returned from a 10 day hol at the Sandos Papagayo, when you first arrive the hotel seems massive but once you get your bearings its fine, restaurant and bars are really around reception, down a few flight of stairs. Loads of sunbeds to choose from, no need to put towels on to reserve. Food was great, loads of variety in the main restaurant, no need to book in the Italian as this is just off the main restaurant and serves lunch and dinner. The Mexican and Oriental is a must, we loved both and couldnt fault them, make sure you book at least 24hrs in advance as they did get booked up. Rooms were spacious and cleaned every day, no kettle or tea/coffee facilites, only channels on TV were True Movies etc, sometimes nice to have a news channel, all the staff are friendly and helpfull. Entertainment team work hard and try to get everyone involved, they put shows on most nights. A nice walk to the marina takes about 20-30mins, this is where the market is held on a Saturday and Wednesday. We got a taxi from the hotel into Playa Blanca, cost around 5 euro, although there is a courtesy bus that runs every couple of hrs from the hotel, you can get the ferry from the harbour in Playa Blanca over to Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca has some nice shops and bars. We would definately go back to this hotel but would get a taxi from the airport as with drop offs etc it took approx an hour transfer. Weather was a bit hit and miss, windy most of the time, rain in the mornings but brightened up in the afternoon. Thankyou to the Sandos Papagayo for a lovely holiday

Superb Hotel

This was our 12th plus stay in this hotel. This year the stay covered our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. As it was our RWA we booked The Royal Elite Service. The room was no different from an ordinary room other than you could hear and see the sea. The extras that come with the RES we really liked especially having your breakfast separate from the other holiday makers.Would I pay extra for the RES yes I would but it depends on personal choice. This year we noticed some big changes to the hotel including an eating out area for meals when the weather was kind. Evening meals were not served outside when we went in March presume because it was dark and cold. We had almost every lunch meal outside , an excellent addition to the hotel There is now a chill out area near the pools and other work is being carried out. Block B rooms were being renovated and looked very nice and bright. Not sure if block A had been done. The RES chill out area now has umbrellas which are bolted into the floor my wife tripped over the part that bolts it to the floor,we reported it on 16 March suggesting some sort of tape with a different colour should be stuck on so it stands out more up to the date we left 25th March nothing had been done. Other people had also tripped over .One of the best hotels we have stayed in always excellent food great friendly staff. Going again next year

Nice holiday but here are some suggestions.

Came to this hotel same time last year - didn't expect to this time but it was very convenient and easy to organise. There are plenty of current reviews so little to add but here are a few...

Having read some reviews before we set off on this holiday we were delighted that the negative feedback was as usually is the norm, a pile of nonsense. We found almost nothing not to our liking in this property. At this stage I need to point out we had upgraded to Elite Gold in advance and if you can afford it then we would recommend mend it 100%. The added extras were all excellent and the bars so relaxing. Overall the food was fine with great choices every day. I am a fussy eater but at no did I struggle ! The cheeseboards and the roasts meets were always superb. The room was again spot on albeit a little dated but apparently being refurbished soon. There was some building work going on but was not really a hassle. The pools were lovely but freezing ! The spa was great especially the steam room ! Every member of staff we encountered was delightful and so friendly ! A couple of minor moans . TV channels were terrible. When predominantly English speaking guests are the clientele then surely better British channels could be provided. Also the entertainment at night was very poor ! Keep music live not mimed. In summary however this hotel is great !

Tourist Information

Weather

Cheap Playa Blanca holidays are more or less a fixture for tourists the whole year round, thanks in no small part to the consistently warm Lanzarote temperatures - consistently hot, that is! Hot it may be, averaging around 18° Celsius in December and 26° Celsius by the summer, but sultry breezes, courtesy of the trade winds, mean you’re never flustered. Having said that, ensure you have your sun cream on at all times to protect you from the sun's rays.

Jabs

As UK, Courses or boosters sometimes advised: hepatitis A (not normally for package tourists).
