After coming here previously a few times we now aim to visit once a year as we enjoy it. This year it was for our main holiday, we went for 12 nights on the 14th June. Since our visit last June the improvements are great. Outside dining is lovely (we saw the early stages of construction last year, you can feel people walking though, reminded us of Jurassic Park [as we could see our drinks shaking] with the stamping footsteps!) the adults pool area is a great change and the jacuzzi for adults is very good. Refurbished rooms are really nice. We had booked Royal Elite again. Just hope the decor and rooms don't get abused by other guests over time as they will look tatty quite quickly. Our room already had a gash out of the new sink. Less storage in the wardrobe than previously as the draws have gone but we just used the shelves and just piled our underwear up. Requested more hangers (as I took 12 dresses, one for each night) and they arrived quickly. The large draw in the bathroom was massive and really useful! Last year the Elite terrace was in progress and opened a couple of weeks after we had gone home so we enjoyed that, loved sitting out there at various times of the day, plus the adults only lounge for the odd drink. We had a B block room: 520. This was the same room that we had on our first visit. We love the views from the hotel. The hotel is large but I feel everything is easy to get to. Reception was the furthest point from our room and I could trot there quickly. My husband has a gym injury and has trouble with a lot of stairs so we love the hotel and the slopes, he can trot around nicely. We had no problems with our safe or room keys this year :-) We arrived at lunchtime (we always grab a taxi at the airport) and were surprised our room was ready when we arrived at around 1pm. Bear in mind that check out is 12 (some guests will leave earlier, we checked out at 9.45 when we left) so please give the hotel time to get the room ready rather than grumble, they can't clean all the vacated rooms within minutes. I didn't expect to get our key till around 3pm or 4pm. We had packed shorts, swimwear etc at the top of our cases so we could just get changed, leave our bags in the luggage room till our room was ready, and start enjoying the hotel, so perhaps an idea for others to do if you have an early morning flight. We love the space the hotel has and the way even though many guests everyone is spaced out. You can always get a sunbed at any time on one of the terraces. Slightly annoying that beds round the adults pool are reserved for hours with nobody on them as that is the nicest area. Food has always been very good here in our opinion. I don't understand any negative comments regarding the main buffet restaurant, the selection and quality are vast. We had some lovely choices and I had delicious rabbit, chilled foods, fish, meats etc. I stay away from the desserts but do like the chocolate ice cream. We actually ate out a few times to break it up so we didn't get too much in a routine and also to see what Playa Blanca had to offer as this was our 5th visit and had only ever eaten in the hotel. One night I had a steak in the town and I wasn't impressed. The next night we used our Sandos points for a meal in the French restaurant (which is really nice) and had a much better meal. If you want to eat out once just for a change then go to the Italian place (Casale Franco) at the little centre at Playa Dorada Beach (right by the Princess Yaiza) above Burger King. The husband seemed to think there were more tasty salads and cold food at lunchtimes in the buffet this visit so he was really pleased. We both put weight on, despite trying to be sensible. I always use a small plate at lunchtime to try and eat less. Yes we are on holiday but no harm in trying to stay in our clothes! We went to the Mexican twice and on the second visit I decided to try everything as I didn't want to miss out, I was stuffed! Thursday lunchtime is still my favourite with the King prawns! They were massive this year! We still have not eaten at the Chinese. We has a look at what was on offer but were not tempted again. The best looking item were Singapore noodles seemed decent ingredients but were burnt. Perhaps a revamp is needed in some way? Add another griddle so there are two and turn it in to more of a teppanyaki style to make it a little more special? Love this hotel, it's peaceful, clean, spacious, yes it isn't right in the resort but do your research before you book. Taxis are cheap. Papagayo beaches are lovely. We spent a few hours most days over there. We also enjoy the little strip of beach outside the hotel. Time it when the tide is out and you get the sand for a few hours. The pebbles you have to walk over don't bother us as we use the steps on the far right and we still find the writing in the stones amusing. (One review moaned about the rock graffiti, I mean come on! That's a bit harsh!). Walks to the Marina, town, harbour are nice and this year we got a taxi to the Lighthouse again and walked back stopping for a few drinks and a spot of lunch. We went to Fuerteventura one day. Got a taxi to the harbour and for €24 each return we got the glass bottom boat (just has the small area they open up, not totally glass and we didn't go down there) as it was just about to depart and was cheaper than the other ferries. The booth at the front were helpful and sold us tickets and saved us money. The crossing was fun. We spent a few hours there, went on the mini train, had some refreshments and then came back. You can get the Fred Olsen or Armas ferries but they are more expensive. I am not a big drinker at home and really only drink alcohol when on holiday but do enjoy the cocktails here. In the past 9 months we have stayed at 3 hotels that are branded and the Sandos wins hands down with the drinks on offer with the normal all inclusive. Having the Elite option gives you the branded drinks which is quite nice to have and bottles plus the chilled glasses are great. If you want to do something different then book a Segway tour. (Moving Segway) They have a pull up banner near the activity board on the reception level so you could email them or just walk out the hotel to the little shopping centre nearby to book. They are shut on a Sunday but open at 9.30 for enquiries, get there sharp before they start the morning tour. We did a training session and tour for €29 each and had such a good time! Great value for money and excellent. The chaps are big on safety and look after you really well. We do it again when we return. I do feel that any niggles we have are mainly due to other guests and them being inconsiderate. Letting their children run around and scream loudly and ignore them plus then the parents make lots of noise on the Canarian terrace and Elite terrace (some families were brilliant and very behaved, it wasn't everybody) when it is such a beautiful view and calm area. We purposefully sat in the smoking area to avoid families at lunch/dinner on the outside terrace but the number of times we had prams put right next to us with the screaming child when there was not space really. Sunbed reserving as said is irritating as there is no need, just a shame that some selfish people hog the nice beds but don't use them. We surrendered our beds at times as we wanted to trot elsewhere then just got new beds when we came back elsewhere. If everybody did this it would work well. The Elite breakfast room is still a lovely start to the day and the ladies are great. Each morning before breakfast I run to Playa Blanca and back - around 6.5km, I go on my own and totally safe. I run via the road out the front of the hotel (the way the hotel bus runs and I carry on to the taxi rank by the mini roundabout where the pedestrian area starts) and come back from the town along the prom, which is beautiful, and I get back at around 8.15 after the back gate officially opens. As always the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel always ask if a member of staff have stood out. I find that hard to answer. Don't forget all the staff that are hidden who play a big part that make our holiday special. My/our comments: 3pm bingo is annoying as so loud above the nice calm quiet adults area, can't this be held in the outside evening area? Prams on the outside eating Terrance. There really isn't space for them.... It is set out nicely as it is. The large groups having tables reserved in the dining room made it much busier and seemed unfair on other guests when there was no room in the Italian. Be wonderful to have adults only areas for dining in some way. Check out/check in. Slightly annoying when we checked out as the process only took 30seconds but we spent a long time queuing due to people changing money, checking in, room changes and long questions, when we really needed a taxi booked and to be on our way for our flight. This is the same when checking in, anyone with a simple question has to wait ages. Separate check in desk and separate check out desk would be great. See you for our 6th visit sometime! Maybe this year, if not then in 2016!

This is our third visit to Papagayos and it was as good as before. It was really good to be recognised by the staff especially those we had got to know. All the staff here are polite, helpful and very attentive. We got the room we requested but were a little disappointed with the renovation, it reduced the amount of storage space. The food as usual was excellent and with plenty of variation. We will return sometime in the future.

Very good rooms, ample size as was the bathroom, spotless clean, we managed to have our 4 rooms next to each other, sea view from the rooms were amazing ( we were on Level 2). It took us a couple of days to find our way around, good entertainment as it was late February. Staff very friendly, excellent food, as there was eight of us, the staff made sure we were all able to sit together. nice walks nearby. We are going back next year. Only one down side, the pool were very cold.
Cheap Playa Blanca holidays are more or less a fixture for tourists the whole year round, thanks in no small part to the consistently warm Lanzarote temperatures - consistently hot, that is! Hot it may be, averaging around 18° Celsius in December and 26° Celsius by the summer, but sultry breezes, courtesy of the trade winds, mean you’re never flustered. Having said that, ensure you have your sun cream on at all times to protect you from the sun's rays.
As UK, Courses or boosters sometimes advised: hepatitis A (not normally for package tourists).
