Where to stay in Crete for couples

Is there anywhere on earth as romantic as Greece? We’re not convinced there is. To be honest, you can’t really go wrong with couples holidays in Crete, as the stunning views and incredible food are found all over the island. Head to Bali for a blissful retreat for two; this small town is great for getting to know the real Greece. There’s also the stunning sands of Agia Pelagia for long walks on the beach, and the tucked-away town of Georgioupolis is perfect for some loved-up time together.

Where to stay in Crete for families

Kids of all ages will enjoy a holiday to Crete. Fabulous sunny weather and the Mediterranean Sea to splash in – what’s not to love? Family holidays should be fun and simple to organise, so keep an eye out for hotels with relatively short transfer times from Chania or Heraklion Airports. Why not pick a place to stay that offers a kids club, or a waterpark too? Sissi, Analipsis and Kalyves are our top picks for where to stay in Crete as a family, but the whole island has a welcoming atmosphere and lots to explore. Your little ones will never want to leave.

Where to stay in Crete for beaches

What with Crete being an island and all, we think it’s safe to say that there’s certainly no shortage of beaches. One of our favourites has to be the long sandy crescent of Gouves, which has Mount Ederi as a dramatic backdrop. This beach is brilliant for holidaymakers of all kinds, with lifeguards, sun beds, parasols and watersports on hand. If flop ‘n’ drop is the aim of your getaway game, then keep an eye out for beachfront hotels. Or why not try hiring a car and beach-hopping around the coast? You’re bound to discover somewhere special.

Where to stay in Crete for nightlife

When deciding where to stay, is fantastic nightlife at the top of your must-have list? Crete might not have the party reputation of some of its sister islands, but it’s still a great place to dance the night away. Whether you’re all about laid-back beach bars and home-from-home pubs, or you prefer a vibrant-after-dark club, head to Hersonissos. This Greek town is equal parts chic and historic, and promises a great night when the sun sets. There’s also Agios Nikolaos for pretty tavernas and intimate bars.

Where to stay in Crete for solo travellers

Striking out on your own? We can’t think of a better place than Crete for a solo sojourn. Are you looking for peace and quiet? Try an Adults Only hotel to let you unwind and enjoy the views over the blue sea. When it comes to life outside of your hotel, both Agia Marina and Analipsis offer the perfect mixture of tranquil surroundings and things to do. Stay by the pool with cocktail in hand, or go out on the town to meet the locals – it’s completely up to you.

Where to stay in Crete for cycling

Cycling, holidays and Crete go together like sun, sea and sand. Some hotels offer bike hire at reception and, if not, most will be able to point you to the nearest cycle shop. Exploring the Cretan landscape on two wheels is a joy – you’ll experience mountains, sea views and olive groves as you whizz by. The beauty of cycling holidays is that you can stay anywhere, but we think the blend of rural landscape and local amenities in Kolymvari, Sfakaki and Hersonissos are ideal answers to the question of where to stay in Crete for cycling.

Where to stay in Crete for a quiet holiday

If the only sound you want to hear on holiday are the waves gently washing on the sand, then Crete is a fabulous chilled-out choice. Although Hersonissos has a lot going on if you want to explore, it’s also got pockets of tranquillity where you can relax and unwind. The same is true for Agia Pelagia; its hotels are often well-located but calm enough for you to blissfully stretch out on a sun lounger in peace. Have a look at the hotels below for places to stay when you want to keep out of the way.

Where to stay in Crete on a budget

There’s lots in your favour if you’re thinking of visiting Crete on a budget. First, the flight time from the UK is relatively short, so there are likely to be low fares if you book in advance. Consider being flexible on your travel dates to really take advantage of cheaper prices, too. When it comes to hotels, a great base for a beach holiday is all you need. Whether you’re opting to go All Inclusive to get everything sorted before you travel, or you prefer to wing it when you’re there, Hersonissos, Gouves and Elounda offer a great variety of value hotels.
