Turkey Weather
Turkey’s climate is as diverse as its culture. Each region has a different climate depending on its location from the mountain ranges, seas and oceans. The southern and western coasts offer long, hot summers with plenty of sunshine, which is why they are so popular with holidaymakers worldwide.Landscape
From isolated pockets to overpopulated cities, nature reserves to red clay river banks, volcanic sites to stretches of sand, Turkey’s landscape can’t be pigeonholed and will often differ from town to town. Make sure you always pack a pair of comfy shoes so you can explore your surroundings thoroughly to get the most out of your Turkey holiday!
Things To Do on Turkey Holidays
Turkish Bath Holidays are relaxing, especially in Turkey, but make sure you truly unwind in a traditional way with a Turkish bath (Hammam). This cleansing treatment is similar to spending time in a sauna, typically detoxing in a hot room, then either plunging into or being splashed with cold water. After this process, bathers can receive a massage or chill out in a cooler room, leaving you feeling rejuvenated in the true Turkish style. Visit the old townsTiled streets, cobbled paths and market squares. Quaint bars, garden seated restaurants and charming shops. These qualities are what attracts us to towns, wherever we go, and Turkey is a destination that does old towns oh so well. Marvel in the ancient ruins in Side or wonder at the Ottoman houses and stone tower in Kaleici. Where there’s a harbour, there’s fresh fish, so look for a nearby restaurant to try some delightful local seafood. Antalya’s waterfallsTake a step back from the beaches and the resort centres, and experience Turkey’s lush greenery. The Kursunlu, Manavgat and Duden Waterfalls offer a glimpse of the region’s wonderful nature, with Kursunlu being set amongst pine trees and connecting seven ponds. Manavgat is the most popular waterfall and has the options of boat rides and entertainment available to make the most of the visit. The Upper Duden Waterfall is a picturesque sight with the lush greenery surrounding it. As for the Lower Duden waterfall, this is a more sublime vision, engulfed in water clouds and with a height that makes it best viewed out at sea.Island hopping around Göcek Take a break from the mainland and discover the 12 beautiful islands of Göcek. The town, located between Dalaman and Fethiye, offers plenty of boat trips where you can explore the beautiful bays of the luscious, unspoiled islands. Apart from being an exciting adventure, it is a chance to dip into the clear waters and some boat trips even include snorkelling for experiencing the beauty of the underwater life.Culture
Mainly Muslim territory, Turkey is open to a variety of different religions owing to its cultural combinations, although if you do want to visit a traditional Turkish mosque it’s always best to wear modest attire and remove your shoes – women are also expected to cover their hair. Turkish will be spoken at most mosques but the majority of locals can speak English and German too.
As a result of Turkey’s close proximity to Greece, the food here is on a par with any of the meals you might experience on a Greek holiday. Mezes of stuffed peppers, vine leaves, kebabs, olives and feta cheese all play their part on the menu, alongside a smattering of aubergine dishes – the Turkish national vegetable. Those with a sweet tooth should look out for the different varieties of Baklava on offer, or if you prefer to end your meal with a strong drink, make sure you sample the local Turkish coffee or the alcoholic aniseed-flavoured Raki. You might want to pack some stretchy pants for your holiday in Turkey!
