Read more about Antalya

The holiday destination with an ever-growing popularity, Antalya has the perfect combination of lush nature, dazzling beaches and exciting activities. If you’re looking for a sunny getaway to indulge in scrumptious local food and dip into crystal-clear waters, the Antalya region of Turkey ticks all of your boxes.

Beaches
If you’re like us and your holiday revolves around beaches, you’re in luck. Antalya hosts a massive 200 blue flag beaches, holding the record for the most blue flag beaches in the world! Some of our favourites include Konyaalti Beach, a spacious shore just west of Antalya city, with the beautiful Beydaglari Mountains as a backdrop. Lara Beach is a popular sandy beach with sun loungers and plenty of cafes and bars around, great for a day out by the sea. Over at Belek Beach, you’ll find a whopping 16km of wonderful, fine white sand and if you fancy an adventure, Patara Beach is on the outskirts of the Antalya region, a beautiful unspoilt beach that’s actually the longest beach in the country.

Food & Drink
Traditional Ottoman cuisine fused with European and Middle-Eastern influences, Turkish food is delicious. Treat yourself to a real kebab when in Antalya, the traditional Turkish ‘kebap’ is the cornerstone of the country’s diet and after just one bite you’ll know why. Fried vegetables are also a large part of the local cuisine and seasoned yoghurt is the garnish of choice. From stuffed vine leaves to succulent kofta, you’re sure to find a taste to fall in love with. Not to forget dessert, our favourite treat baklava is sweet syrupy pastry bites that you won’t be able to get enough of. To wash it all down, the local alcohol is Raki, also known as Lion’s milk, and is made from twice-distilled grapes and aniseed.

Culture
Although a popular tourist region, Antalya hasn’t lost its charm. The old town, Kaleici, is filled with rustic buildings on cobbled streets and features the beautifully-designed Hadrian’s Gate, built in 130 AD. There’s a choice of fascinating archaeological sites to discover around the region too, with the ruins of Perge and Termessos cities still having stunning ancient walls and theatres for people to explore. Plus, in Side, you can visit the Temple of Apollo where Anthony met Cleopatra.

Nightlife
With plenty of towns to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect nightlife to suit you. Like most of Antalya’s resorts, Kemer has a great pick of bars as well as some super clubs like Club Inferno and Aura Club, great for those who like to dance the night away. Over by Antalya town’s marina, you’ll find a bunch of cool bars and pubs to enjoy laid-back drinks in, all of which are very welcoming. Side has a buzzing nightlife scene, with an array of bars and clubs to enjoy, or for a quieter place to enjoy evening drinks, head down to the harbour.

With rollercoasters named the ‘Hyper Coaster’ and Typhoon coaster’, adrenaline junkies are in for a treat. There are also smaller rides for younger ones and if you’re a water baby, the theme park is not only on dry land! An array of water slides, rapids and splash zones are also fantastic features at the spectacular park.

Green Canyon Boat Trip
Set sail on a boat trip around the Green Canyon and soak up the stunning views. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful nature and lush greenery on the journey and even get the chance to take a dip in the emerald green waters for yourself. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere with the Taurus Mountains surrounding you. If you’re looking to connect with Antalya’s nature, this is a fantastic way to do it.
Golf in Belek
Belek may bring to mind luxury hotels and beautiful beaches, but it’s also well known for its pristine golf courses. With plenty of tourists visiting there specifically for golf holidays, you know it’s the place to be for an exceptional golfing experience. The Montgomerie Maxx Royal Golf Club is not only the top-rated course in the resort, but also offers stunning views and a brilliant club house, perfect for a spot of lunch.

The burning flames of Chimaera
A marvellous piece of nature, the eternal flames of Chimaera is one for the bucket list. Visit the Cirali Mountains in the evening and experience the ever-burning fires that have been alight since the ancient era. In fact, the fires burn so bright that they were historically used as landmarks by sailors at sea. Originally thought to be caused by a mythical fire-breathing creature, the flames are actually the result of natural gases being released between rocks. But, no matter which story you decide to believe, they’re definitely worth the visit.

Culture

The Antalya region is popular with those wanting to investigate its ancient ruins and archaeological sites of Turkey’s history. Inspiring attractions includes Olympus and the Fires of Chimaera, Termessos, Perge and Aspendos which are all definite must sees while you are in the area.

Olympus and the Fires of Chimaera is where you can witness an unexplainable fire that erupts from holes in the Chimaera Mountain. It has mystified scientists and locals for thousands of years, and you are able to visit the site and discover the myths from over the years about what has caused the fire.

Perge is one of the most important Greek and Roman towns in the region, ideally located approximately 30 minutes from Antalya. The site has many ruins including a theatre, Hellenistic and Roman Gates and a street with columns.

Aspendos is one of the most important Roman theaters on earth. If you are lucky, you may see a classical music concert performing live, as they still allow performances.

Antalya has a deep history and this is shown in its many beautiful mosques. The Kesik Minaret (Broken Minaret) Mosque demonstrates Antalya’s long history to the full to the full, the Yivli Minareli Mosque is a perfect example of 13th-century Seljuk stone carving and the 16th-century Murat Pasha Mosque is definitely worth investigating.

Couples

For a truly romantic experience, you should head 14 km north-east of Antalya and find the Upper Duden Waterfall, where you can enjoy walking behind a cascading waterfall. Once you have seen this breathtaking scene, you can watch the Lower Duden Waterfall drop into the sea from Lara Beach. Take a picnic and this will make an incredible day trip for you and your partner!

Shopping

Shopping in Antalya is fantastic! You will find many shops from designer stores, souvenir shops, traditional markets and many more!

The narrow cobbled streets of Kaleici in the old quarter is one of the most popular spots to go shopping, where you will find lots of fantastic boutiques, craft and souvenir shops and jewellers, all with long opening hours so you can while away the time, browsing the stores.

For a more traditional shopping experience, you will enjoy the many markets, roadside stalls and bazaars. You will be offered many bargains by the shopkeepers and stall holders, however never except their first price! They expect you to haggle, so be cheeky and you could get some local produce such as leather goods, carpets and jewellery at a great price!

For a fantastic souvenir idea, buy the blue glass beads on offer in most gift shops and market stalls as Antalya’s legend state that these beads protects you from the evil eye!
