Cape Verde Weather

Holidays to Cape Verde can be sure to include great weather. The temperatures are steady. The average temperature for all the islands is around 25C. The temperature does fluctuate depending on the season, but not more than 10C in either direction. The reason for the very steady temperatures is a cold ocean current that cools the air that has been heated by a very strong sun as the islands are in proximity to the equator.

There is a rainy season that occurs in the middle of August and continues through until the middle to end of October. This rainy season, however, should not affect holidays to Cape Verde as weeks can go by during this period that not a drop of rain falls from the sky.

The peak season for holidays to Cape Verde is generally agreed to be June until the middle of September. However, many seasoned tourists of Cape Verde like to be present for the Carnival festivities that take place throughout the islands during the months of February and March.

There are a total of 10 islands and 8 tiny islets that make up Cape Verde. The islands are one of two types: mountainous and lush or flat and sandy. For this reason, Cape Verde's geography has much to offer for those with holidays to Cape Verde. The islands were created by volcanic eruptions long ago and remained uninhabited until the sixteenth century leaving the evolution of geography to be unknown. Whatever the history of Cape Verde's geography, the beautiful mountainous regions and long sandy beaches are becoming very popular tourist destinations.

Cape Verde is a region of islands off the Western coast of Africa, Senegal to be specific. The islands are an archipelago with total land area that equals the smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island. Originally discovered in the mid fifteenth century, the islands were uninhabited. Habitation occurred at the beginning of the sixteenth century when Cape Verde was claimed by the Portuguese Empire. Due to the takeover and the location of the islands, the culture is a rich mix of both Portuguese and African heritage, as are the inhabitants. Its great position led it to be a major player in the slave trade until slavery was abolished by the United States near the end of the nineteenth century.

Since that time, Cape Verde still remained a vital shipping port but suffered tremendously economically. Still a part of Portugal, the islands lobbied for their independence, which they received on July 5th, 1975. Since that time, a republic government has been created. The newly created government has been trying to increase tourism, fishing and shipping throughout Cape Verde. Of these industries, tourism is becoming one of the most popular. Holidays to Cape Verde are fun, activity filled and relaxing.
