Comments:

Corralejo is very British, lots of British bars and lots of Brits visiting. If thats what you want from your holiday it the place for you. The area like a lot of the Canaries is suffering from the downturn and there are lots of hotels and shops half finished and empty which is a real shame, because it is set in such beautiful surroundings. There are lots of surf schools if that your thing so you could have a very active holiday, there are also plenty of places to hire bikes and lots of cycle tracks around the island (it is quite flat compared to Gran Can and Tenerife). There are local bars and resturants if you want to sample traditonal cuisine with loads of fish dishes available, not a lot of vegatarian options but you wont go hungry. The beaches and dunes outside of Corralejo are massive going on for miles, there isn't a nudist beach as such, just lots of naked people walking around right next to a family with bucket and spades, this didn't bother us but some people might find it odd. Other areas of the island are just the same so you need to stay on the local beach if you want to avoid them. There was a kite festival whist we were there and to go to it you had to go past lots of nudes or get a taxi to the beach. We stayed at Oasis Papagayo, rated one of the best hotels in Corralejo but very dissapionting so don't want to think what the others are like!

Useful Tips:

We travelled around the island using the local buses, these are great and quite cheap, only one way fares available though. It cost us about 9 euros each to go to Morro Jable on the southern tip (two hours on no.1 and 1 hour 30 on no.10 from Puerto Rosario, which is about 30mins and 4 euros away) each way. You get to see a lot of the island that way and the south looks a lot nicer, with better hotels, beaches and slightly hotter though mostly German tourists. The best beach we found was at El Cotillo (no. 8 bus every hour, takes 30mins 2.85 euro each, each way) very peaceful, beautiful beach and lovely carm, clean warm sea. Oasis Park is well worth a visit, a free bus leaves each morning from most hotels takes about 1 hour 30 mins to get there and leaves again at 6pm so a long day. It cost 24 euros per adult each plus 10 euros each for camel ride(optional) but great value for money. There are 4 shows (parrots, birds of prey, sealions and reptiles included inprice), plenty of animals and beautiful cactus gardens, there are 3 resturants lots of vending machines for drinks/icecreams at resonable prices, gift shops and a garden center and on Sunday there is a fantastic craft/local market.

Comments:

Before travelling we had heard mixed reports about this resort, so were slightly wary! However, upon exploring the resort, we were left pleasantly surprised by the selection of restaurants and bars. As we were self catering, ate out every night and managed to find an array of places serving different cuisines. Awful at remembering names, but came across a lovely place in the old town area, serving tapas which was really tasty and good value for money, so much so thet we returned 4 times over the fortnight! Also, found a great Indian, which was located along a side street (the street which has the downstairs Italian place on the corner). In terms of the bars, like many, we found them to be fairly quiet at times and assume many are now holidaying all inclusive due to poor exchange rates. Still didn't struggle to be entertained and particularly enjoyed Imagine bar, which had live music every night. Overall a great holiday and would definately return.

Useful Tips:

Make a point of visiting the main beach, stunning blue sea and white sands, although a bit crowded!
