Your top travel tips on Turkey

We recently asked you, our travel experts, for your top tips and recommendations on Turkey. After reading through all the entries (which made us want to book a trip there and try lots of new things!) we’ve chosen our favourite ten – and we had so many great ones that we’re giving all ten a £25 holiday voucher!

If you’re looking to book a holiday to Turkey or have already, have a quick read of the tips below!

Jo Rochester: Alanya is perfect. Beautiful sandy beach.. we always go self catering because there are so many lovely restaurants to go to, water parks, day trips, a boat trip is a must, Managavat market is brill, haggle haggle haggle! Turkish people are friendly and very family orientated. My kids love it, have a Turkish bath on the first day….after that and a bit of sun you will have the best tan you have ever had and it will last…if you do go self catering, shop where the locals do. Alanya also has a castle and caves to explore, the castle is lit up at night it is very pretty and right on the harbour a perfect spot for an evening meal.

Olivia Holman: Best holiday ever, we went for the first time in 2010 to Side in the Antalya region. The place is lovely very clean and tidy and so are the beaches. There are various boat trips to different areas and to see different surroundings. In Side, there is also the ancient ruins and ampitheatre, and also the Side harbour which is nice to watch the boats come in and out, and watch the world go by! When entering the Turkish airport you will have to pay a £10 visa fee, which is valid for 90 days.

Tracy Paul Williams: We have just booked our third holiday to Turunc a very laid back sleepy little town but with everything you could possibly need on your holiday, no trip needed to a water park as the Hotel Turunc has one of its own along with two other pools, the staff at this hotel are out of this world and cannot do enough for you. Children’s entertainment is brilliant with different things happening constantly, food is readily available from breakfast until around midnight, top tip for shopping, barter in Stirling

Charlie Nicole Campbell: I would definitely recommend marmaris! The beach front is perfect for taking kids along as all the nightclubs have outside seating areas. The bazaars are a must for shopping, with extremely cheap glamorous items for all ages. I would recommend shopping at night as its much cooler and relaxing, if you chose to shop at night you’ll also see the magnificent water fountain display which is showed at 9pm every night! You must try ‘cousins restaurant’ for amazing food. If you’re looking for a nice relaxing meal then entertainment for the kids cousins is definitely the place to be!

Marie Campbell: Booked our last turkey through you to Marmaris the Turkish mud bath trip was fantastic great for all ages … Also the jeep safari that was so funny the guides were fantastic

Lynn Hubszer: Always buy currency in resort, rather than here. You always get a better rate!

Jayne Ridley: The turtle boat trip is good and the Pasha Beach Hotel is great

Lyn Patrica Broughton: Lara Beach and Ozdere both spectacular destinations to visit for couples or families

Laura Yilmaz-Pollitt: Remember you can’t drink the tap water as it contains high minerals, so must buy bottle water from any local market!

Joan Fletcher: Make sure you take some high factor sun cream in the high of summer can be expensive over there. Try to learn some basic words as the Turkish people really appreciate it.

There’s a lot been happening over the last few months, so we’d recommend reading our Turkey Travel advice page, packed full of useful information to ensure your holiday goes without a hitch!
