Dalaman is a resort on the south-west coast of Turkey, known for its long, dry summers and plenty of sunshine. It’s also known as The Turquoise Coast thanks to its beautiful coves, long sandy beaches and bright blue waters. Its backdrop of mountains and valleys is packed with sights to explore. The Lycian Rock Tombs
These ancient tombs are set into the cliffs and overlook part of Dalaman town, making a stunning view when lit up at night. Take a rowboat across the river to get a closer look.
The mud baths
Dalaman is known all over the world for its indulgent mud baths, claimed to ease rheumatic and skin conditions. Mud like this doesn’t smell quite as nice as our luxurious bubble baths, but we’d put up with it for the experience!
The sunken city remains at Simena
Simena is a little way out from main resorts but well worth the journey. Wander around the ruins and even take a boat ride over the sunken areas. Often you’ll be treated to a traditional Turkish lunch on the boat and stop in one of the bays to swim the clear waters.
Caretta Caretta Festival
Any city which has a festival dedicated to turtles sounds pretty cool to us. Loggerhead turtles are the stars of the show each June, alongside firework displays, dance shows and watersports competitions around Iztuzu Beach. The event isn’t widely promoted so ask for more details at your hotel.
Olu Deniz and Calis beaches
We had to include some beach recommendations! Olu Deniz (pictured below) is the most famous stretch, beautifully situated and full of hotels, restaurants and bars. Needless to say, it’s popular here so turn up early to save a spot on the fine sand! Alternatively, try the shingle of Calis Beach, a haven for sunseekers and close to the yachts and watersports of Fethiye Bay.
