Recent research has found that it’s the men taking the lead when speaking foreign languages on holiday. Despite women on average speaking more languages, men appear to be more confident in holding a conversation and claim to be less likely to let a language barrier deter them when choosing their holiday destination.
The research has also found that although we are renowned within Europe for lacking in foreign language skills, 13% of us can actually speak at least three languages, with French the most commonly spoken followed by Spanish and German.
Travelling to foreign shores is a great way to pick up new languages and with all the modern apps available at the click of a button, it has never been easier to learn key phrases and keep the locals sweet.
