Which Meliá hotel you should visit, based on your holiday style

The nights are drawing in, the layers are piling on, and it’s not long until the clocks go back. More than anything, it’s starting to get unacceptably cold in the UK! But do you know where doesn’t have that problem? The Canaries! This gorgeous set of islands, only a few hours’ flight away, has year-round sunshine, delicious delicacies and incredible beaches (and you know how much we like beaches). Even better, Meliá Hotels and Resorts have got hotels dotted all around the islands, with stays to suit every budget and every member of your holiday partay.

We’ve put together a quick guide to help you find your perfect Meliá hotel, so you can escape the cold that little bit faster. Whether you’re a beach bum, a culture vulture or a family-fun kind of holiday goer, read on to find the hotel you’ve been searching for. Winter sun, here we come!

Best for a romantic escape: Meliá Jardines del Teide – Adults Only

Not only is this hotel located in a beautiful setting overlooking the sea, but it also has everything you need for a peaceful, relaxing escape, just the two of you. We’re talking massages at the spa, delicious dinners at their rustic Italian restaurant, and possibly a competitive game of squash if you feel like it! Plus, the hotel is close to nearby attractions like the famous Siam Park water kingdom, two golf courses and the stunning sands of Playa del Duque – just hop on the hotel’s free shuttle and you’ll be on the beach in no time.

Best for family fun: Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora

Whatever their age, your little ones are sure to have a fantastic time at this child-friendly hotel. There are loads of fun activities to keep the whole family entertained, from the playful splash park to the children’s playground, and even a local scuba diving course for adventurous older kids. And if you’re in need of a bit of quiet time, the kids can have fun at the Baby Club (8 months – 5 years)* or Mini Club (ages 5 – 12), whilst you chill out by the huge lagoon-style pool and take in some rays.

*With prior reservation.

Best for a budget break: Sol Sun Beach

Only a short stroll from the beach, and with an excellent pool area, Sol Sun Beach is a fab choice for a laid-back stay in the sunshine that’s not going to break the bank. You’ve got the flexibility of a self-catered stay, but with the option to grab some food at the buffet or enjoy a drink from the poolside bar. There’s ping pong and evening shows at the hotel, as well as two waterparks down the road. Sold yet? At this price, we definitely are!

Best for beach days: Sol Lanzarote

It doesn’t take a detective to work this one out – just look how close the hotel is to the beach! In fact, this whole coastline is covered in gorgeous beaches for you to choose from. The only hard part is, you probably won’t want to leave the hotel and its four swimming pools. Regardless, wherever you decide to lay your towel for the day, we’re sure you’ll be in sunbather’s heaven. And if you do decide to venture further afield, you can rent a bike from the hotel and go and explore the other sandy spots nearby.

Best for local culture: Sol Barbacan

Take a dip in the natural rock pools of Charco Holandes, peruse Playa de Mogán’s artisanal craft markets every Monday, swim inside the beautiful Cueva Bufadero de Tauro sea cave or catch the sunset at the lighthouse of Maspalomas. All these attractions are within a 30-minute drive of the hotel, meaning it’s perfectly situated for the cultured traveller. Happy to go the extra mile? The jungle-like Jardín Botánico Viera y Clavijo is well worth a visit, especially for gardeners and plant fanatics, and is around 40 minutes from the hotel. Slightly further afield you’ll also find the Tamadaba Natural Park – the perfect place to visit if hiking is your thing. It’s a wild forest of pine trees, towering mountains and incredible views – so don’t forget to charge your camera!

Best for quiet relaxation: Sol Fuerteventura Jandia – All Suites

Surrounded by tropical gardens and with a poolside that just screams (sorry, whispers) relaxation, you won’t have any trouble recharging your batteries here. There’s a rooftop terrace and a massage studio at the hotel, or you can spend the day soaking up the sun at the beautiful Playa de Jandia, just a short stroll away. And the sunsets are pretty incredible, too…
