Salou is a top place to go on holiday for oh, so many reasons. Okay, so we hear you asking… why is Salou such a brilliant choice for beach holidays in Europe?
It’s really easy to get to
For many, the shorter the flight, the better.
You don’t have to sit on a plane for hours, twiddling your thumbs, before you can get your next dose of sunshine… It only takes around 2.5 hours to fly from Manchester Airport, for example. Short flight durations are great, especially when you’ve got small children along with you.
To make things even simpler, airport transfers are also pretty speedy.
It has a tourist train
Running through the key attractions, areas and sites within the city centre and beyond, the tourist train makes transportation easy during your holiday. You can head to the shopping area, the beach or even the popular theme park, PortAventura. It’s worth checking the routes available on your stay, as they alternate between four different lines depending on the time of year.
You can visit the House of Illusion
A house of modern magic and entertainment mastery, this is a great evening out for older kids and adults.
Be astounded by magicians, amused by comedians and entertained by skilled vocalists. There are two show times available (6:30pm-9:30pm or 10pm-12:30am). The each show includes unlimited lager, soft drinks and wine… although, supper is also included if you opt for the earlier show. You can choose between Silver, Gold and V.I.P packages depending on how glitzy you’d like your evening to be.
Modernist Villas of Salou
Salou has style. Several gorgeous modernist villas line the streets of Costa Daurada (the capital city), giving Salou a classy backdrop to look upon. These villas were built in the 1920s and are widely thought to have influenced the rise in tourism to Salou. Each villa has its own story to tell. For example, Xalet Bonet o Voramar (pictured above) was the first to be built, by textile manufacturer Cirac Bonet i Escarrer.
It’s brilliant for sports
You may have already seen our article on world-leading sports in Salou. Every year, sports teams from all over Spain head to Salou for competitive sporting tournaments, such as golf and football.
The Passeig Jaume I (known as Salou’s main artery) is a sports facility with a 5-a-side football pitch, a basketball court, table tennis tables and six beach volleyball courts. A popular area for runners, the Passeig Jaume I is right by Llevant beach overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
