The best beach reads

Continuing with the spirit of our new TV campaign – view it here –  which celebrates everything great about the beach, we’ve asked some of our favourite travel bloggers for their all-time favourite books to read on the beach…

The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen

Chosen by: Jennifer Durans

“It’s full of mystery and intrigue and is the perfect book to get lost in whilst you feel that ocean breeze on your legs. It has a little bit of romance involved too, making it a really good summer read for when you’re sunning yourself this year!”

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom

Chosen by: Emily Ray (The Cosy Traveller)

“Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom is not only an absolute page-turner, but it’s also a book that soothes my soul in a way no other book can. It follows the meetings between the book’s author and his old sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, who’s dying from ALS. Over the course of their meetings, the pair discuss the meaning of life and death in great detail. While this might sound a little heavy-going, what follows is an uplifting tale of all that’s important in life, leaving you with the determination and courage to love, see and do as much as you possibly can.”

Things That Happened Before The Earthquake by Alex Chiara Barzini

Chosen by: Ian Thornley

“There is something about California that appeals to the dreamers of this world and I am certainly one of those! This story tells the tale of Eugenia, a teenage girl who is uprooted from her traditionalist life in Rome to the epicentre of modernity, Los Angeles, California. It documents her trials and tribulations and takes you on a journey from the bright lights of Hollywood to the darkest corners of South Central LA whilst showcasing all that is great and all that is unenviable about the most famous city on Earth.”

The Last Piece of My Heart by Paige Toon

“The book is perfect for anyone with a romantic side to them, however it appealed to me as it is the story of a travel writer – something I could resonate with very well. It will have you both laughing and crying and is the PERFECT summer read if you’re looking for a bit of an adventure.”

Babs2Brisbane by Barbara Haddrill

“I love real life reads; ones which I can relate to, but that can take me on an adventure and keep me captivated. Babs2Brisbane is a book about a woman who sets off on an epic 9 month journey to Australia. Travelling overland, without flying. Reading the book, you feel like you are almost there with her, in her many high and lows points. I couldn’t put it down, and for me it makes it one of my best beach reads.”

Chosen by: Abbi (Life In A Rucksack)
