For many years Tenerife has been one of the favourite beach destinations for sun seekers, but it has now also been named as one of the best places in the world for star-gazing.
Thanks to its low light pollution, beautifully clear dark night sky, high altitude and proximity to the equator, conditions are perfect for astronomy. But what many don’t realise is that Tenerife has long been a popular destination for ‘astro-tourists’. It is home to one of the world’s most advanced astronomical observatories – the Teide Observatory – from which the entire Northern Hemisphere and part of the Southern Hemisphere can be viewed. The Teide National Park has been certified by UNESCO as a ‘Starlight Reserve’.
So if you’re soaking up the sun in Tenerife why not take a trip out to Teide and take a moonlight trip on the cable car and enjoy the spectacle of the universe..? Take a look at great holidays to the island here.
