Recent research reveals on a typical 10 day holiday, teenagers spend a whopping two hours a day on social networks.
Laptops, smart phones and tablets are consuming 20 hours of precious family time, with one in three parents claiming their child barely looks up from their phone, for the whole duration of the holiday. Facebook is the most popular form of social media but teens also spent time texting, uploading photos to Instagram and playing online games. However, despite showing little interest in family activities, a whopping 60% of parents said they were the same when growing up, spending the majority of time on a family holiday with their head in a book or listening to a personal stereo.
Family holidays are a great chance for everyone to relax and spend quality time together, without the distractions of everyday life. However, teenagers can be somewhat temperamental and access to social media is often a lifeline for them. Although catching up with friends online may seem harmless, be sure to check Wi-Fi charges and phone tariffs or teens may be returning home with a bill costing more than the holiday!
