Does travelling by yourself terrify you? Apparently it doesn’t scare good old British women! In fact, according to a recent survey, half of British women said they are more likely to go away on their own than they were five years ago.
Is this the ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ craze finally inspiring the nation? Or with the emergence of thousands of travel blogs and social media coverage, is the concept of travelling alone just not that scary anymore?
The poll suggested that the women questioned found solo travel more of an empowering experience than a daunting one, with the choice of how to spend each day solely their own.
Gone are the days where travelling alone meant blindly venturing to unknown realms, with no prior knowledge of where the week may take you. Now, each detail may be planned out months in advance; hotels booked, activities organised and advice received from all over the web.
And it’s not just solo backpacking that’s becoming more popular, simply taking a short break by yourself can be just as rewarding. Two thirds of women asked said they felt more energised and refreshed after taking a trip by themselves, as opposed to going away with others.
So if you’re thinking of travelling alone… Go on, be brave!
