Today’s the day!
On Saturday, our Vicky and Beth flew to Africa, and this morning they will start their gruelling 90km trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, taking on everything the altitude and the elements can throw at them!!
With a summit of 5,895m, Kilimanjaro is the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. Vicky and Beth will be hiking for about 8 hours a day, for 6 days, aiming for the summit and camping all the way. They’ll be combating temperatures as low as -25degrees and altitude which will make the hike feel like they’re working with only half a lung and one hell of a hangover! But it’s going to be thoroughly worthwhile, because they’ll be raising money for a brilliant, extremely worthwhile cause – RAILWAY CHILDREN – a charity dedicated to helping vulnerable children in the UK, Africa and India, and in particular to helping children living on the streets.
Vicky and Beth are funding the climb themselves, so EVERY PENNY they are sponsored will go to the charity. Any and every donation, big or small, will be hugely appreciated, and the girls will know all their hard work training for this challenge will have been thoroughly worthwhile, helping to ensure the work of Railway Children can continue to help protect vulnerable children.
The more money Vicky and Beth raise, the stronger their willpower to reach that summit will be… So if you feel like doing a good deed, get out your bank card and support Vicky and Beth’s fundraising effort if you can – just click here:

Also, if you have a spare few minutes, check out this video from a Kilimanjaro climb the “Railway Children” organised themselves in October last year… there’s some great footage of the kind of challenges the girls will face, plus a flavour of the projects Railway Children are involved in out in Africa.
Good luck girls!
