Resort of the week: Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

Egypt is an increasingly popular holiday destination, and with its famous pyramids and scorching temperatures, it’s no surprise. But step away from the sights and there’s plenty more to see – here’s some food for thought if you’re planning a trip to Sharm El Sheikh:

Sharm El Sheikh is a stunning resort, and only 25km from the Sinai Desert and Red Sea, it’s close to one of the world’s most popular and famous diving sites. This colourful spot is teeming with wildlife and an area that many different species call home. If you’re up for a dive, you’ll see sharks, coral and loads of different species.

There are a variety of ways to get to this spectacular part of Egypt, from a gentle camel ride to a quad bike or go-cart for the most adventurous. You can even take a boat. However you get these, it will be worth the ride.

Summer holidays always fly by and it can be tricky to fit everything in. One activity that will tick plenty of boxes is stargazing. You’ll be driven from your hotel to Wadi Mandor, about 30km from Sharm, where you’ll find a camel waiting for you. If it’s Oscar, you’re definitely in for a good time – he’s a real character and a lot of tourists want to take him home!

The unforgettable experience of riding a camel through the hot Egyptian desert lasts for about forty minuets; plenty of time to relax and take in your surroundings. Once you reach the high point of the desert you’ll take your place to watch the sunset. This is one of the most spectacular views on earth – don’t forget your camera to capture some unforgettable memories.

After the sun has set you will be taken for an open buffet in the desert, but don’t worry – the Egyptians have sand in your sandwiches covered! During your meal you’ll be entertained by belly dancers and fire shows, and then comes the best bit – the amazing view of the stars accompanied by an astronomer. We recommend that you lie back and enjoy, feeling at one with nature and helping you to release your stress and everyday worries. After all that’s what a holiday is best for.
