‘Menorca is the jewel of the Mediterranean’

We recently ran a competition with Mum’s In The Know, whereby one lucky reader would win £1000 towards a family holiday with us! We asked readers to write a blog about their favourite family holiday memory. Your holiday may last a week or so but your memories will last a life time and we love hearing about them!

A huge congratulations to Maxine Norman! We really enjoyed reading your blog post about Menorca, we too agree it is a fabulous island. We hope you can make plenty more memories on your next holiday! Here’s Maxine’s post, for you all to enjoy:

‘Ella aged eighteen months seemed quite taken with all of the destinations on offer and particularly loved the shiny brochures, “where shall we start?” I agonised over where to go “It has to be safe” I said to Mr N, I’m off now, Afghanistan is out though he replied as he closed the door. “It cannot be not too far either you know” Australia is off the radar Mr funny commented in-between dripping toothpaste all over my freshly cleaned sink. “They have to have a cot”, this stumps him on day three for a moment, Japan is out he says and so this is how one of the best holidays of our lives began, it began with endless lists of what the holiday was to provide. I sat up wide awake and nudged Mr N, do you think we have looked at all the options; this was Tuesday the 13th week six of my investigation. After two months of driving myself insane, Mr N calmly walks in one lunchtime takes my “file” off me (the lists were getting unruly) and calmly picked up the phone and called the local travel agent, lots of questions and answers later Mr N hangs up and tells me that we are going to love Menorca, “was it on your list babe he grinned”?

We needed advice and I am so glad we took it. Mr N booked the holiday there and then. The relief it had been taken care of was as good as the first dip in the azure blue Mediterranean that we took within in an hour of landing. The reviews said Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands and has a string of sandy unspoilt beaches. What an understatement that was! We arrived relaxed and bushy tailed after a short 2.5 hour flight from Bristol. The biggest thing for us was the feeling we had of utter relaxation and that was within an hour of arriving. We discovered Ella was a water baby and all we needed for a great time was a beach and we certainly had a lot to choose from. Our favourite was Cala Trebaluger, it is the most idyllic beach I have ever seen, it was quiet, unspoilt and simply breathtaking. Endless warm days we pottered, snoozed and relaxed here, I can still feel it even now. One late afternoon we discovered what must be one of the coolest places on earth called cova denxoroi this hidden gem of a place is set into a cliff face and has spectacular views and scenery, we visited during the day and the chilled out ambient music and drinks on offer was serious food for the soul. You have to the place to believe it. We wanted an amazing holiday and what we got was more than that, in Menorca we found happiness and heaven and a truly beautiful beach holiday, the kind I thought only existed in Fiji or Hawaii, Menorca is the jewel of the Mediterranean.’

We received so many funny and interesting blog posts that we will be sharing a few more with you over the next couple weeks, so keep an eye out!
