Marrakech for couples

Lantern-lined streets, music filling the air and warm balmy nights – Marrakech is a wonderfully romantic city and just the break you’ve been looking for. Whether you’re a couple who enjoys the hustle and bustle of a city break or a pair who just want to discover food, drink and relaxation, Marrakech has something for you. So, grab your passport (and your other half), we’re here to take you through our top things to do for the most magical break in Marrakech!

Get lost in the medina or souks

Exploring a new city and getting lost in the intoxicating mix of new smells, new languages and new experiences is the best part of discovering a new destination. The maze-like streets of the medina and the jam-packed stalls of a Marrakech souk offer you all of this, in one. Treat each other to a holiday souvenir, try a delicious local delicacy from the food stalls and practice your haggling skills. This action-packed day will leave you with ever-lasting memories of Marrakech.

Explore the El Badi Palace Ruins

The El Badi Palace or The Incomparable Palace was once one of the most beautiful palaces in Morocco. Built in 1578, this palace now stands as ruins – with pieces of perfectly preserved mosaic tiling and intricate design work making for must-see viewing. There’s something eerily romantic about walking around this once truly magnificent building with the one you love.

Visit a Moroccan hammam

Similar to a Turkish bath, a Moroccan hammam is an experience not to be missed whilst in Marrakech. Dating back to times when hot water was scarce, this unique place used to be a regular way of life here, where people would go to get a thorough wash down and a good massage. There are two ways to experience a Moroccan hammam. The first is the couples way, which is a more modern version of the traditional hammam – this is harder to find and usually confined to hotels and spas (it’s often a little pricier too). The second is the traditional hammam – a truly authentic experience – although you will be separated into male and female sections. A combination of hot steam rooms, olive oil scrubs and long massages will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated (if not a little sore!). Perfect following an intense day of discovering the city!

Take a caleche ride

You’ll see these everywhere – pretty horse-drawn carriages offering romantics tours. If you’ve had a full day already, this can be a great way to recharge while taking in the sights. For a different view, we recommend taking the carriages toward Palmeraie or Agdal. You’ll see plenty of orchards, orange trees and pomegranate gardens, as well as numerous examples of intricate Moroccan architecture.

Stroll through the many gardens

Immersing yourselves in a busy city break can be exciting, but sometimes we don’t get a chance to reflect on our favourite bits or take time to plan our next day. Taking a slow stroll through the gardens of Marrakech gives us a chance to unwind from busy city life and spend time connecting with our loved one – all in the beauty of a stunning botanical garden. P.S. It’s also a great chance to top up that tan!

Take a sunrise hot air balloon ride

It’s just the two of you, the sun is just breaking and you’re having a champagne breakfast in a hot air balloon – does it get any more romantic than that? Take in the sights from a different perspective as you watch the city come alive beneath you. A sure-fire way to start the day right!

Explore the Atlas Mountains

There’s dozens of different trips available to take you into the Atlas Mountains, so make sure you pick the right one for you. Our favourite is the full day trip out – usually taking around nine hours but lengths and itineraries will vary from company to company. Enjoy a pick up from your hotel and head out towards the mountains to meet your guide. You will visit traditional Berber villages and enjoy an authentic meal with mint tea with a local family. There’s even a chance to join a camel ride to further explore this stunning area. Some tours also offer waterfall tours and camping stopovers as part of the package.

Enjoy a rooftop champagne dinner

Round off a perfect trip with a rooftop dinner at Djemma El Fna Square. No doubt you’ll have explored this area numerous times by now and probably discovered something different every day, but did you take the opportunity to look up? Pick your favourite rooftop terrace and enjoy the evening views over the square. Top it off with a great meal and champagne – perfect!
