Are the Spanish Air Strikes Happening?

So we’ve all been keeping our eyes and ears open to hear the very latest about the Spanish air strikes…

We know it’s been a bit of a pain that they haven’t been confirmed by the airlines yet, but please bear with us. We’ll update you as soon as we can!

In the meantime, here’s some info about why the strikes are happening, and why everyone is hoping they’ll be resolved:

Why might there be air strikes?

Back in 2010, a group of air traffic controllers took part in an unannounced strike due to disputes over pay and working conditions to do with authority structures. As there was no warning of the strikes in 2010, 61 workers were suspended and forced to pay a fine for causing major disruptions to airport functionality.

The strikes happening today are in retaliation to this. There is a general feeling that these fines were unfair, and that the strikes in 2010 were justified.

The strikes that may be happening soon are for the purpose of getting these fines reimbursed – and if they are, it is likely that the strikes won’t be happening.

What are the airlines saying about this?

We are constantly on the lookout for any new information, but we still haven’t had confirmation from them that they are holding their flights… it seems to us that they are planning to go ahead as normal for as long as they can until they hear otherwise.

Will the strikes affect my holiday?

We haven’t heard for certain that the strikes are definitely going ahead, so we can’t say for sure. This is because there is a chance that the issues will be resolved, meaning that the strikes might be called off. If your flights will be affected though, we will email you as soon as we hear.

Please make sure that your correct email address and contact phone number is included on the Manage Your Booking page (accessible at www.onthebeach.co.uk), so that we can contact you should you be affected.

For further details on the air strikes, such as when they may be happening, see this update.

We apologise for the delay in getting confirmation either way to you – we’re working on it! Watch this space for further details.
