Brits head to the sun this Christmas
After having looked at the numbers, we’ve found that more holidaymakers than ever before are jetting off to enjoy Christmas in the sun this year; as sales to some of Europe’s most popular beach destinations rocket by 160%.
Latest sales data shows that rain soaked Brits will be relaxing on the beach and sipping on sangria rather than mulled wine this Christmas, with the Canary Islands proving the most popular destination this year. The popular Spanish islands are attracting more than twice as many Brits as any other holiday destination this Christmas.
The sun kissed island of Malta is also proving more popular than ever this Christmas, with booking data showing a huge 160% increase, compared to Christmas 2011.
We say; “There are still some fantastic bargains to be had this Christmas and we expect to see many more Brits heading to the sun this year. For people looking for great value holidays, check out the Canary Islands and Malta”.
Another boost for Malta
The airlines have obviously been listening to On the Beach, with several announcing additional routes to the popular island. Monarch is adding routes to Malta from East Midlands next May and after flying 1.5 million British holidaymakers to and from the island since 2008, easyJet has announced that flights from Manchester to Malta will rise from five to six flights a week.
We say; “This is great news for holidaymakers wishing to visit this beautiful island. Malta is one of our most popular destinations and with these additional flights, many more holidaymakers will be able to treat themselves to a bit of Maltese magic”.
easyJet introduce allocated seating
The usual scrum for seats for people boarding easyJet flights are now a thing of the past. The low cost airline introduced allocated seating on all of its flights this month following trials in April this year. A subsequent survey of easyJet passengers found that 71% of passengers preferred allocated seating and 60% said it would make them more likely to fly with the low cost giant.
However, nothing in this world comes for free, with the cost of choosing your seat costing at least £3. As with many airlines, extra leg room seats come at a premium with easyJet charging a whopping £12 for these ever popular seats.
easyJet believes that by eliminating the scramble for seats, they will be providing a much better service for passengers; attract more holidaymakers and distancing itself from other low cost airlines.
We say; “If you want to save money, you don’t have to pay in advance for allocated seating. easyJet say that it has a sophisticated system that will sit families together 99% of the time, so if budget is tight, you can save a few quid and let easyJet choose your seats for you”.
Best airport eateries revealed
A report by ‘The Daily Meal’ has revealed the best restaurants and cafes in airports around the world and Jamie Oliver’s Union Jacks Bar at Gatwick Airport has been given the thumbs up.
The report also suggests that holidaymakers heading to the Costa Brava via Barcelona Airport next year; should head to Porta Gaig restaurant, named the best airport restaurant in the world.
We say; “If you’re flying out of Gatwick airport you must pay a visit to Jamie’s Union Jacks Bar. The ‘grab and graze’ option is a brilliant idea, providing passengers with lovely food to take onboard or to eat on the way to the gate”.
And finally…Finger licking goodies at 35,000ft!
If you’re a fan of fast food, Japan Airlines has just introduced a new in-flight menu that could be right up your street. The airline will start serving KFC to passengers on some US and European flights for the next three months.
We say; “If this proves successful, maybe one or two British based airlines will follow suit. Who knows, in a few months we could be treated to Fish and Chips en route to Sharm or pasties on the way to Paphos”.
