Snow better time to escape to the sun
With the Met Office issuing severe weather warnings today, there is no better time to head to sunnier climes!
Britons have been warned to stay inside today as blizzards are set to hit the country, with up to 12 inches of snow forecast for many parts of the country including the North West, Wales and the West Midlands.
The warning comes after the coldest weather of the winter hit the UK this week, leaving households shivering in below freezing temperatures as low as -13C.
On the Beach says: “This latest weather warning from the Met Office is one of the most severe, so it’s looking like the big freeze is here to stay. We usually see a boost in bookings to the sun at these times and with destinations such as Egypt and Morocco enjoying temperatures in the late 20’s, it’s no surprise many Brits will choose to leave the UK for warmer countries. ”
It won’t Costa lot in Spain this year
The 2013 ‘real value hotspots’ report from The Post Office has named Spain as the best value destination this year.
Comparing in-resort costs of many of the world’s most popular destinations; others named in the best value report included Turkey, which has seen in-resort cost drop by 16%. The report also reveals that Croatia is set to be a popular hotspot for British holidaymakers this year.
On the Beach says: “This is great news for anyone heading to Spain this year. Spain has always been a popular holiday destination for Brits and this report suggests that holidaymakers will spend even less in-resort this year as costs have dropped by 16%. Turkey and Croatia are already selling well at On the Beach and we expect many more will head to these destinations now their money will stretch even further. ”
London Airports busier than ever
Two of the capital’s biggest airports; Gatwick and Heathrow recently reported their busiest months ever, showing that sun starved Brits are as keen as ever to jet off to sunnier climes.
The airports which carry more than 100m passengers between them each year, both reported increases in passenger numbers during 2012 with Gatwick, the second busiest airport in the UK carrying more than 34m happy holidaymakers.
On the Beach says: “Last year was a bumper year for holidays, with millions of Brits heading abroad for their share of the sun. Forward bookings to popular destinations such as Greece, Spain and Turkey suggest that this year could be the biggest year to date for holidays in the sun. ”
Cheapest hotels since 2010
Recent reports suggest that hotel rates in Europe are cheaper now than they were in 2010, news that will no doubt be welcomed by British holidaymakers.
Further research by On the Beach shows that in order to attract the all-important British holidaymaker, hoteliers across Europe are massively slashing prices, with some offering discounts of up to 50%.
On the Beach says: “There are so many amazing deals to be had this year; it’s no wonder British holidaymakers are booking in their droves. Brits are saving a lot of money on their holidays this year, especially those who have chosen all-inclusive holidays which are available at very low prices.”
