What’s the most relaxing way to start the day in the Costa del Sol
Nothing beats watching a stunning sunrise, so I’d recommend starting the day off with a morning stroll along one of the many coastal promenades to watch the sun come up over the Mediterranean Sea. You could always make sure you see the sunset too, with the added bonus of enjoying a glass of wine in the evening… There are many relaxing plazas in popular Costa del Sol resorts that are perfect for this, before visiting one of the many local taverns or one of the 7 Michelin starred restaurants (for a treat!)
What do you do personally to switch off?
I like to go on hikes up in the hills behind Mijas… the scenery there is spectacular! They have offers on weekends where you’ll get a drink and tapas included so it’s great for a full day out. It’s around 3€ each and you can book directly with the Tourist Office of Mijas. It’s also not too far from Torremolinos!
I’d also go for a wander around the historical centre of Málaga city visiting the many museums or window shopping on Calle Larios.
Where are the best places to relax in Costa del Sol?
One of my favourite places in the Costa del Sol is Nerja. It is beautiful and has a village atmosphere, great restaurants and spectacular coastline.
Just a little way inland from the beach, there are beautiful white villages where all you hear is the church bell, the goat herders and the donkeys. Great to explore and stay in the charming country hotels and eat the local cuisine based on seasonal produce… bliss!
How would you recommend tourists relax when they visit Costa del Sol?
Tourists should visit the inland areas which are both beautiful and peaceful. Go for a walk up in the mountains in Ronda where there are breath taking views. It’s a little further away from the coast but is well worth a visit.
Another option is to visit Antequera town – an UNESCO World Heritage Site – which is a world away from the busier coastal areas. And a visit to Caminito del Rey (The King´s Pathway) is also very worthwhile.
What do families tend to do to relax in the Costa del Sol?
Aside from the beautiful beaches, there are plenty of options… Families like visiting one of the three large water parks in the area or boarding a boat excursion around the coast for the chance to spot some dolphins… the kids really do enjoy that!
That sounds great – can you give us some more examples of family-friendly excursions?
Sure. We’re really lucky to have a really unique kind of zoo experience located at Fuengirola – that’s a coastal town in the south. It’s called BIOPARC and it aims to provide its animals with the most natural habitat possible.
You could also try the Butterfly Park in Benalmádena which has beautiful surroundings and 1,500 different exotic species of butterfly!
