Plus, it’s a whole load cheaper and in our eyes… it’s a lot more fun too! Turn your home into a zen-like space and book in a slot for your DIY spa treatment; a couple’s spa day from home is sure to add a special little touch to your date this Valentine’s Day.
Set the mood
What is it about spa settings that ooze peace and tranquillity? Setting the scene for your perfect spa day from home is one of the best ways to get that post-spa glow. Here are our top tips for getting that spa atmosphere on point…
Light
The first thing is the light – you have to get it right! Dim them down low, get the candles on the go and draw the curtains too, it’s the best way to switch off from the outside world for a while.
Smell
Second is smell because setting the mood is all about the senses. Light your favourite fragrant candle, opt for some incense sticks or pick out some soothing essential oils. Choose your calm, whether it’s luscious lavender or ocean breeze, pick what most appeals to you.
Sounds
Now it’s time to cue the music, whether its rolling ocean waves, silent natural settings or soft spa-inspired sounds – find a playlist that suits the mood for you two. It’s crazy how quickly you can begin to feel your body release, all it takes is a mellow dose of musical medicine.
DIY Facemask treatment
Undoubtedly one of the best parts of the spa day has to be the treatment and your couple’s spa day from home is bound to be no different. That’s why we’ve come up with some simple, fun to put together DIY face mask treatments, that are great for glowing skin and perfect for relaxing.
Quite like the beach, these DIY facemask treatments are good for the soul. So in honour of our favourite place, we’ve given these two treatments beach-themed names to go with them. Whether your skin is looking a tad grumpy or you’re just in need of a little pick me up, the trusty facemask is the answer to all of life’s troubles. It’s time to get creative in the kitchen with your loved one and have a go at these DIY treatments.
Ocean Hydration for two
- 1 Avocado
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- A large handful of oats
Leave your skin nourished, bright and hydrated with this vitamin-packed mask, filled with nourishing properties. Mix the ingredients in a bowl and smooth the mask evenly over clean skin, leaving for around 15-20 minutes to soak into your pores. You’ll find many off-the-shelf products already using oats and honey for their healing and rejuvenating effects, but making your mask from scratch can sometimes be even better. Lie back and relax, your skin will be as fresh as the ocean before you know it!
Smoothing Sun-scrub for two
- 2 tablespoons of natural yoghurt
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of turmeric powder
This soothing sun-scrub gives more of an exfoliating effect to smooth out any lumps and bumps, leaving you with a sun-like glow. Again, all you’ll need to do is combine all the ingredients in a bowl, then smooth the mask on to your face. Pop your feet up and relax for 15-20 minutes to feel the full benefits of this treatment. Turmeric offers excellent health benefits, including reducing inflammation and skin pigmentation – so this smoothing scrub is sure to leave your skin radiant and shiny in no time.
Top tips for your couple’s spa day from home
1. Spa-style eats
Pop the prosecco and get the scones at the ready for an afternoon-tea inspired treat or prepare a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries – it’s a great way to add an extra special touch. You could also chop up some zesty citrus fruits and splash into a jug of ice-cold water for an ultra-refreshing pick-me-up.
2. Keep it clean
Before you dip into a pool of utter relaxation, it’s a good idea to have a quick tidy up. Give the place a little spruce up before you begin and tidy away any clutter so you can clear your mind too. Make it cosy with cushions and blankets if you really want to make it romantic.
3. Make it a no-phone zone
Part of the relaxing spa experience is enjoying the moment as it is, with no distractions. So set the scene, switch off the phones and enjoy the time together. Sometimes a break from the busy online life can be just what we all need.
