It’s official; when it comes to holiday etiquette, we’re the friendliest bunch on the planet… according to the international hotel staff in our latest survey, anyway. Here are our key findings, at a glance…
Who are the friendliest holidaymakers?
- British
- Swedish
- Norwegian
Our survey of over 100 hotel staff across our favourite beach destinations gave British holidaymakers the big thumbs up with 32% of them naming Brits the friendliest…
16% named the Swedes the friendliest, whilst 1 in 10 voted for Norway, although none were as clear winners as Brits who were voted twice as friendly as the Swedes.
Who are the best tippers on holiday?
- British
- Swedish
- Americans
Tipping hotel staff whilst on holiday has often caused confusion, with many holidaymakers unsure when tips are expected by restaurant and bar staff as well as the daily cleaning staff who work hard to keep our rooms clean.
However, Brits seem to be doing something right, as the survey revealed Brits are the best tippers with 36% of the vote. Swedish holidaymakers are also considered good tippers coming in second with 14% of the vote, followed by the usually tip happy Americans with 11%… although this is less than a third of our score (not to brag or anything).
Who are the biggest complainers?
- British
- French
- German
So before we get too big-headed, we Brits were voted the biggest complainers with 37% of the vote… that’s quite a bit more than the French, who came in as the second biggest complainers with 12%. Alistair Daily (Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach) commented that “whilst we’re famous for complaining about the weather here at home, […] we continue to grumble when we get to our hotel.”
Who are the noisiest guests?
- British
- Spanish
- Russain
Okay, we might have been able to guess this one… British holidaymakers were voted the noisiest guests with a deafening 34% of the vote, followed by Spanish guests with 25%. I guess we can’t help it if we’re chatterboxes who like to party here and there. Daly added that “we’re a fun loving bunch so it’s usually all good-natured”…
Who are the rudest holidaymakers?
- Russian
- German
- French
Whilst the sun, sea and sand of a beach holiday has most of us in a happy holiday mood, it seems not all holidaymakers extend that mood to hotel staff, with Russian travellers considered the rudest guests with a whopping 31% of the vote.
German holidaymakers are named the second rudest with one in five voting for German guests, with French travellers named the third rudest, gaining 10% of the vote. It seems the British escaped this one, proving there’s always room for minding your Ps and Qs…
