Do language barriers affect your holiday?

Ever been on holiday and been caught out by language barriers? Sometimes if you don’t know the basics, you can find yourself in a situation like this…

A recent study has found that 14% of Brits abroad refuse to speak the local dialect, expecting English to be a commonly spoken language, especially in Europe.

It’s always good to know a few words in different languages to avoid an awkward interaction (it’s also polite to do so). As we know, manners cost nothing and with that in mind, we decided to translate ‘thank you’ for you in some of the most commonly used languages. You’re welcome – see… manners!

Portuguese: Obrigado
Italian: Grazie
Dutch: Dank u
Spanish: Gracias
French: Merci
German: Danke
Finnish: Kiitos
Croatian: Hvala
Danish: Tak
Greek: Efharisto
Latvian: Paldies
Polish: Dziękuję
Romanian: Mulțumesc
Swedish: Tack

So there you have it. Take some time to learn the basics and put them to the test on your next On the Beach holiday!
