A recent survey has revealed that women are shying away from holidays because they are too self-conscious. Ladies between the ages of 18-25 and 40-50 are the most conscious of how they look and a shocking one in five women said they even put off going away, because of how they felt.
Most of the women asked had been on a beach holiday in the last two years, but 5% said they had never been on a beach and 13% admitted they had not been abroad in more than 10 years. Shockingly, one in five stated the reason for this was because they felt too self conscious in a swimsuit.
More than two thirds of women diet or start going to the gym before their holiday, with most giving themselves two months to get their dream beach ‘bod’. Even after those two months of dieting, only 17% said that they felt good in their beachwear and a massive 55% of women also said they compared themselves to others, whilst soaking up the sun.
As a nation, the look good culture is increasingly growing, with many more TV programmes appearing on our screens flaunting toned bodies. This, combined with our love of social media sites and sharing our holiday snaps for all to see, means to many holidaymakers, it’s more important than ever to try to look and feel as great as we can. However, we should celebrate the human body with its uniqueness as we all come in different shapes and sizes, and nothing should deter us from our well-deserved holidays.
