Family holidays are pretty brilliant, granted.
But that’s not to say we don’t understand that sometimes going away without the kids on an adult-only holiday is a nice treat… We get that for some kids, visiting the local historic town is the least entertaining thing when compared to jumping around in the pool and making new friends.
With that in mind, we’ve come up with a list of fantastic cultural excursions in two of our favourite holiday destinations. You may as well get these ticked off your list on one of your child-free holidays.
Paphos Excursions for Child Free Holidays
Being voted the European City of Culture 2017, it’s pretty clear that Paphos is brilliant when it comes to culturally rich excursions.
Paphos Archeaological Park – Located at Kato Pafos, this is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites you’d be silly to miss. You can see prehistoric monuments, Roman mosaic floors and the ancient Tomb of Kings all in one place.
Famagusta Old Town – Containing the remains of a political wall, Famagusta has its own distinctive story to tell. Word has it that the wall was built after Turkish troops invaded, leaving a once lively resort into something of a ghost town. If walls could speak…
Troodos Mountains Jeep Safari (pictured above) – This has to be done whilst in Paphos. Bringing one of the most scenic areas in Cyprus, with UNESCO churches and quaint villages with traditional tavernas, a jeep safari here will get you acquainted with Paphos’ real hidden gems.
Amalfi Coast Cultural Excursions
Amalfi Cathedral (pictured above) – a sacred building in one of the most beautiful locations in Europe, the Amalfi cathedral is a stunner. Built in the 1200s, the cathedral is situated aloft the village streets below as it always did carrying the relics of St. Andrew the Apostle.
Valle delle Ferriere – If you like a ramble or two (of the walking variety), Valle Delle Ferriere is a wonderful place to see the Amalfi Coast’s roots… literally. Fresh and peaceful, this is a romantic excursion for mums and dads looking for a breath of fresh air.
Coastal Drive – It wouldn’t be a visit to the Amalfi Coast without a coastal drive included in your itinerary. We’ll let a simple Google Image Search do the talking for this one.
Perhaps your gang absolutely love going to historic towns, beautiful local villages and UNESCO World Heritage Sites… and if that’s the case, there’s nothing stopping you from bringing them along!
