From Macclesfield to Majorca, Ami Byrne has seen it all…
Join On the Beach in celebrating the 10 year work anniversary of Ami Byrne, one of the longest standing members of our Totally Beachin’ team.
Ami started working with us in June 2006 in our humble beginnings in a terraced house in Macclesfield. Following our recent float on the London Stock Exchange, Ami has been there throughout all of our developments, from the very start. To celebrate her achievement, we interviewed her to see what it’s been like over the last 10 years…
The Early Days
What was it like in the early days of On the Beach?
I started my time at On the Beach as a Commission-Only Sales Advisor in the Phone Sales department… and it was really different back in 2006. There were only 15 staff in total and now I think we’ve got a total of something like 300… We started off in a terraced house in Macclesfield where we did all the bookings over the phone and on paper booking sheets! Nowadays it’s all digitalised
What attracted you to apply to On the Beach back in 2006?
The potential to earn as much money as possible was a draw, definitely. I remember seeing the role advertised in a newspaper article by the manager at the time who mentioned the opportunity to earn great commission, but mostly waxed lyrical about ‘Chippy’ Thursdays and weekly beers after work every Friday. I never looked back.
The Highlights
What has been your best memory ?
There have been so many great memories. Some of them are quite funny, but I can’t tell you everything. Let’s just say the summer parties and annual Christmas office dos are always eventful, fun and entertaining!
What’s your favourite part of your role as it is now?
There’s something so rewarding about speaking to customers and finding them their perfect holiday. I love speaking to our friendly customers; over time I’ve built up a rapport with certain repeat customers who have been booking with us for years now!
What’s the best thing about working at On the Beach?
Do you know what? It’s the people. I love my working team – I’ve made so many great friendships. My best friend even works with me – which is great! The team are like family – we’re all friends which is the best!
Looking Forward
What advice would you give a new starter at On the Beach?
On the Beach employs people with the best attitude. As long as you’re happy to be a team player, friendly, open and honest, you’ll fit in and do really well. Oh, and make sure to take your fair share of calls!!
If you could work in any other department where would it be?
*Shrugs* possibly training or quality… To be honest, I’m really happy where I am.
If you could do any job at On the Beach for the day, which would it be?
Simon’s….CEO. I’d give that a try!
Just Because…
If you could take your friends away on holiday where would you take them?
The BH Mallorca is really popular with many of our customers since it opened last year. I’d definitely get the girls to come with me for a few days! It’s next on my list. Once I’m done partying, I’d probably want to visit Mexico with my family and stay at the Royal Cancun.
What’s the best holiday you have ever been on?
I had such a great time at Las Vegas for my 21st birthday. It might not have been anywhere near the beach – but I had fun all the same!
