Birmingham Airport plans to rival London Heathrow

Birmingham Airport has unveiled its ambitious plans to expand! This would see the airport welcome 70m passengers and offer 500,000 flights per year compared to Heathrow’s 69.4m passengers and 476,000 flights per year.

The new plans incorporate the current blueprints of Birmingham Airport, meaning no surrounding properties would be affected by the expansion – good news if you live close by! This huge project is predicted to create a whopping 250,000 jobs for the surrounding community too.

The new plans are set to coincide with the first stage of the HS2, the new fast rail network link going directly to London, making the commute time between Birmingham Airport and our capital just 38 minutes – no time at all! The second stage of the HS2 link would make Manchester and Leeds 40 minutes away. This would mean 15 million people will be living within one hour’s travel from the airport.

As more and more people become increasingly eager to travel overseas, the industry is rapidly increasing and is expected to at least double over the next 20 years. The plans for Birmingham Airport may appear ambitious, but would no doubt be welcomed by many, making travelling abroad even more accessible for us.
